What's this? Young Kaito-kun creating a thread? What is the madness behind this rare occurrence I hear you ask, well I'll tell you. I thought of an idea of a discussion that I'm 99% sure doesn't already exist here! And it is this: What was your first console?

Mine was the Sega Master System. I've had it for as long as I can remember and my favourite game for it was the 8-Bit verson of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Atari 2600 when I was about 5, but I only had a few games for it and rarely played it. Got a Master System a couple of years later and I probably consider that my first proper console. Favourite games were Bubble Bobble, Sonic 2 and of course Alex Kidd.

My 1st console was the Atari 2600 and dozens & dozens of games. I had like over 30 games (a lot of them were just plain awful).

Sega Mega Drive with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 & the 6 pack (Golden Axe, Shinobi, Super Bike thing..., Columns, Streets of Rage and something else)

How cool that my first console would be the best one ever :O

First console?

A nes, a wonderful white nes, a pretty brilliant nes, with Super Mario Bros in it as first game.
Also, here I entered in the Megaman series. My first game was I think Megaman 1 or 4, I donīt remember exactly, I had 3 years old.

All this magic in 8-bits ended when the SEGA Genesis arrived to my life =3
This happened 1 or 2 years later, so I couldnīt enjoy to the max the nes.

That's the very one :) the other game must have been a soccor title I think...it wasn't sonic the hedgehog 1....ah well...

The Lion King was still like one of the best games I ever got :3

The footy game might have been World Cup Italia '90, it was doing the rounds on a few of those compilaton carts back in the day.

A Sega Master System with Sonic The Hedgehog.
I never got many games for it as I got a Mega Driv soon after which i liked better.

Killer French Bread
27-10-2008, 23:44
I got a Mega Drive soon after the Master System too, with Strider and Altered Beast. I loved it at the time, but my parents spilt up and as the Mega Drive was round my Dads the Master System ended up being the savour of boredom for a few more years in my pit of a bedroom.

Thinking about it I didn't get a new console for good few years thereafter. Unless you count the gameboy, I don't think I had a new console between about '92 and '97.

Of course then there were the bad years. The awful years. The years when I had an N64. But I don't like to talk about that...

NES w/ Mario Bros and Duck Hunt for me though that one was mine and my brother's. Genesis was the first system that was mine (my brother remained a Nintendo fan boy).

Mine was an Atari 2600 aswell I think with loads of games. It was my grandads and he gave it me when he bought a master system. I know I got given a spectrum +2 aswell around the same time and I can't quite remember which came first.

My first console was a Game Gear with Sonic 2 when I was around 8. A couple of years later got a Mega Drive with Sonic 1.

Atari 2600 here aswell in 1990 got it with a 34-in-1 cartridge, the joysticks broke too easily though. Then the christmas after I got the Mega Drive, and the rest as they say, is history, god that Atari sucked.

My first was a Nes. Got it together with a bunch of games. Super Mario Bros, Gradius, Top Gun, Rush'n Attack, Ikari Warriors, Gun Smoke, Zelda, Metroid, and Rygar.

Think that's all of them. I still have them all somewhere, aside from Rygar wich I lost years ago.

About 2 years later, I got a Megadrive with Sonic 2, and Alex kidd.

For myself, it was the Mega Drive and the Sega Saturn, before I got the Playstation (since I was born in the same year as S3 and S3&K). The first game I've ever played obviously was Sonic 1. I still had the cartridge at the time, so, it's awesome. :D

The same as many others on here. Mine was the Atari 2600. I was so excited Christmas 1984 I got it which was rubbish but River Raid Combat and Battlezone saved the day. Still got it boxed with the receipt!

Mine was a NES. Here in the U.S., there wasn't much info about the master system. Most people hadn't even heard about it. My second console was the Genesis.

Yeah that's true. It was the opposite for me. Most people I knew had a Master System. I do like both though. I remember one friend had a NES and all he had was Mario and Castlevania. I was really impressed with both games. There wasn't really anything like those on my Master System.

Would you believe my first "console" and we did think this was a gaming rig was the yellow Pong machine. Wow we here cool then. As far as real console I had first was the Atari, but at the time my Commador and Vic before it, had cooler games. I suppose those would be considered pc's lol.

I'd count the Game Boy. Why wouldn't you count the Game Boy? It's a significant part of gaming's heritage.

My first family console was the dreamcast. It came with Marvel vs Capcom. I missed out on a lot and had to emulate on the computer to make up for it. My first portable was the old game boy advance which came with super mario advance 2: super mario world. The first console I bought personally for myself was the gamecube so I could play Sonic heroes.

I know this is about the first console, but i can't resist... in order of purchase:

Atari 2600 -> Mega Drive -> Game Boy (original) -> Playstation -> Xbox -> Game Boy Advance -> Dreamcast -> Nintendo 64 -> SNES + NES (eheh, 2 for the price of one :P) -> Sega Saturn -> Xbox 360

Bought the Atari in 1993 or '94, can't really remember...

First console owned was a Gameboy (assuming the Game and Watch doesn't count!). I played on my school mate's NES and Megadrive a fair bit, too. First TV console I owned was the Playstation, which I bought with my first part time job wage packet.

MY first was the NES but then I eventually traded it in for a SNES. My older brother was the one who owned the Genesis so most of the games I played at that young, young age were out of his library. So overall, 1st: NES, 1st Sega: Sega Genesis.

Well, my first console was, ironically, my old NES, and the first game I EVER played was Super Mario Bros. I was ecstatic when I reached level 2. XD

My next console was also my first SEGA machine, however, a Genesis that no longer works. (Yes, I've owned three Mega Drives!!!) I don't remember what I played first; might've been Sonic the Hedgehog, but I'm not sure about that. I know what got me (and the whole family!) hooked on video games though: Phantasy Star. Classic 8-bit RPG action. Sonic the Hedgehog was definitely what got me started as a real action gamer, though, since it was the first time I'd ever played a fast-moving game like that.

Ah... Good times. :D

Yeah mines a two and is the redesigned smaller version. There were alot of third party systems and accesories made in brazil and it was Tec toy that made alot of them. That could be one of them. Maybe even viny has just used a pic off the net to state they have a master system.

Obviously I didn't. Odd.

Anyway, the first console I've ever played on and which the family owned was an original Pong-Arcade machine. Yes, absolutely oldschool. We had to sell it, though. D:

My first own console would be an SNES. Although we did have an NES and a Mega Drive, but those again were my father's (he gave them to me when he realized my obsession with Retro games, which was in my teens, lol).

The SNES did have some quality games, though I never owned one so I've mainly played them through ROMs and the like. It's a shame Nintendo don't take a page out of SEGA's book and put their best games on a Wii compilation or something, that'd be awesome.

They did it with the Zelda games, and ported over/revamped most of the Mario games. What more can you ask for???

Gavvie
20-03-2009, 22:55
The Zelda games were released on Gamecube though, and the Mario ones have only been released seperately on GBA. It'd be nice to lump them all in a collection, and add some Kirby's in, Super Metroid, and games that didn't make the trip overseas, like Earthbound.

They won't though, because such a collection requires a certain amount of common sense, which Nintendo don't seem to have a lot of currently.

Yeah, a nice SNES collection would be a plus in these retro loving days. I'd buy especially since I never owned or played much of SNES games except for some roms.

It's called the Virtual Console.

Which is fine by me because unlike the Nintendo consoles afterwards most of the awesome games were not infact made by Nintendo, and all awesome Nintendo games are available on other consoles.

If Nintendo released everything in one collection they'd be unable to charge you amazingly high prices for games through their Virtual Console.

It is crazily high though :I I'd rather buy the boxed game for the same price then download a ROM. A few games get away with it, A Link To The Past or whatever...but some games simply don't cut the cake! :boring:

If I could find the proper game boxed for the same price as on VC then I would much prefer that, only not at all since I actually want to play my games and I have no idea where any of my old consoles are.

1st console? SNES!

Ah, I remember opening up my SNES on my 4th Christmas and been s**t exicted! I also remember how I went to a car boot and pointed at a Genesis running Sonic the Hedgehog and wanting it... looks like my parents got mixed up! :P Oh well, the SNES was great and I've been searching for a Genesis to complete my 16-bit collection ^^

1st console however was the game boy colour. I remember the only decent game I had on it was Mario Tennis. The 1st day I got it I played it for 7 hours straight. I also remember crying when the batteries ran out in important matches XD
