Welcome to our second game of the month -- sorry it's a bit late, this month it's the excellent Burning Rangers for Sega Saturn, released in 1998. Click Here (http://www.radiosega.net/forum/../gotm.php) to read the feature, and check out the gameplay video and more! Also a special thanks to ResidentSD for writing the feature for me!

Finally, a new game of the month!
I have never played Burning Rangers (sad, sad person... :() but have heard many great things about it. And the description on the feature and gameplay video also made me wish I had played it before...
Maybe the opportunity will come one day. Anyway, what I've seen has really made me curious.

I'm desperate to play it too, I think this week will be the week I finally purchase it though!
I'll have it by the end of the week and I'll definitely post some feedback about the game. :)
Cool. It's something i've always meant to play, but never got round to. I only got a Saturn last year, which i've kept in the box to be honest =0

Wow, I'm not the only one who hasn't played it! I've been wanting to play it forever, but it just costs too much on eBay... I've heard great things about it, though.
i have always thought a fire-fighting game by sega is good so i'll add it to my list of games to get. i also heared this game runs on the same game engine as nights!

Yeah, apparently parts of it play just like the Claris and Elliot sections of NiGHTS.

Never played it. This was one of the games I wanted to get from the start, but never saw it at retail. Not giving up hope.

Should I admit that even though I wrote the Game of the Month, I've never played Burning Rangers?
Certainly from writing it, I am quite interested in the game and might see if I can grab a copy of it from somewhere and give it a try. Sounds pretty different.

There's no way I'm the only one here who owns this game let alone played it.
My first time playing was actually when I borrowed it off a mate. I didn't get my own copy until a few years later on eBay, but I still remember playing it all those years ago.
I really got into the whole random level thing, playing levels loads of times to find every possible civilian to get every single extra. I did manage to find everyone on the first level Fallen Memory, but I saved to cart, took it to a mates house and found the file became corrupt. Damn those save files being so easily corrupted.
Truely a game that was criminally overlooked and because of that we'll never see a sequel. Then again Naka said that about NiGHTS so here's hoping!

Well, we're not sure NiGHTS is actually...good, but if it is, a Burning Ranger sequel would be nice. However, I know a lot of it was Anime-inspired, and while I like that style of game, I don't see much of it around anymore. If I remember correctly, doesn't it have OVA sequences?

Cutscenes were all Anime besides the odd in-level cutscene. I think that was due more to the limitations of the hardware though. None of the FMV's I remember looked all that good. The Anime stuff worked really well on the saturn, not just for BR.

Aye NiGHTS, as Master Hunter said there is an anime cutscenes, if you watch the video here (http://www.radiosega.net/gotm.php)you'll see it at the start.

Yeah, I saw some clips from the Anime cutscenes on a TV show that covered the life and times of Yuji Naka. They spent like 5 minutes on NiGHTS, and the rest of the time on Sonic 2. The only basis I have for the "Games with Anime cutscenes rarely get sequels" were Policenauts and Snatcher. I watched some of the OVA clips, which were REALLY good, but Policenauts never came out on Saturn or Playstation, while Snatcher for SEGA/Mega CD did horribly. However, both were apparently good.

I have a experence with Burning Rangers.
Well I auctally used the picture of Shou (i think thats his name) the main Male person (and my current display pic) as my roleplay avatar for years, even before i knew what burning rangers was.
Later i got the Sega Con Vol 2, and i love the music they have on there, so I looked it up and it seemed interesting... i dident get a chance to play it till recentally, as i was able to track it down (got it for $25)and as much as I love the whole idea of the game... one thing disipointed me...
Wheres the music in the levels?
Sonic Team and Sega in general was allways known for the catchy music (hence RadioSega), but as catchy as the theme song and a few other songs are, it suffers from a lack of music.
To some people that may not bother them... but to me music is a very large part of what makes a good game, great. The design is very well thought out, and its got fun, innovative gameplay, but the odd lack of music held me back from enjoying it as much as I wanted to.
Still if you can track it down, its worth having as its a good adition to any game collection, and a great conversation starter.
I haven't played that game, but with music and the anime intro scene i saw in youtube, i loved it, still, i'm having hard time to find "Angels With Burning Hearts" and "We Are Burning Rangers" in lime wire to have it in my MP3.
Great game, anyways, another good job from Sonic Team!

There's little music in the game because you're supposed to NEED the instructions given to you by Chris. Half the time you really do need them.
Only really the boss fights have music where you don't actually need any instructions on where to go.
Also you really need to listen out for the warning whistles that tell you to pull back. It's a fundamental part of the game which isn't there in the bosses.
what is even worse is i have owned br for 6 years and still never played it only paid 1.99 in cash convertors gonna give it a bash soon though:biggrin:
If you wish to discuss Burning Rangers, please use the new Burning Rangers (http://www.radiosega.net/forum/showthread.php?t=688) thread (see conversation at the beginning of thread to see why this was done). Closing this thread.
