I have to concur on Tony Hawk 2. Great game!
My DC still gets its ass kicked on a daily basis in my house and has done since 1998. Despite having owned every console since then, I keep going back to my Sega box.

Same here. I always play a little something before I go to bed. Maybe some 3rd Strike, maybe some Capcom vs. SNK. Just a quick match just to respect the Dreamcast.
I have a 3 year old son who thinks Sonic 2 and Donald Duck Quack Attack are the best two things he's ever seen :)

How can Sonic Shuffle be regarded as good? It's shite! It has bad loading times and just reeks of a rushed to market game to compete with Mario Party, SEGA are capable of so much more such as Samba De Amigo and Rez...

F355 is a blinder of a game, shame I always sucked at it since it was such an accurate driving simulator. But the graphics even today stand up solidly, it's gorgous.
I'm certain one of the F355 audio tracks was on the MSR soundtrack too?

What is Segagaga?
What is Segagaga?
This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segagaga) is Segagaga. This (http://hg101.classicgaming.gamespy.com/segagaga/segagaga.htm) page has several screen shots. Among them, I'm pretty creeped out by the shot with the Samba De Amigo monkey. It looks like a weird Phantasy Star screenshot hack.

What are you waiting for ?? :P
There are a lot of good games, but most of them never came to America or Europe....
Today I took a look at the stock of "play-asia", there are so many good looking rpg's or manga/anime adoptions - the problem is the language :mad::mad:
Maybe I just have to learn japanese to play all the good stuff that never comes over the sea.

With me it's the same, I tried once, but it's really difficult.
But maybe it's ok that many rpg's never cross the sea, so I don't get too poor^^

Sonic Adventure 2
I'm going to be a bit biased and say my latest purchase of Sonic Adventure 2 is one of them, Sonic Adventure 1, Shenmue (I & II), Crazy Taxi (I & II), Power Stone, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Skies of Arcadia. And a personal favourite, Toy Commander, I spent hours on that. ^_^ There really is too many to list and too many great ones unplayed.

To be honest, I'd probably would have been fine with the game if it weren't for the load times and poor music at times and badly animated cut scenes and awkward boards and... OK maybe I am just not meant to like that game.
I think I still try to like it though. It was given to me as a Christmas gift from a special couple of guys in San Francisco... I miss them.
Well time to break out the gift! Sonic Shuffle was a favourite back when it came out. ^_^ Or it was to me at least!

Its soo funny to see Amy lose the battles. I didnt like how sonic had no special areas that only he could pass like the others can.
Well there are a lot of games to list and I'm afraid I'm much too lazy for that but the game I've spent the most time on, well other than PSO is actually 「青の6号 歳月不待人 -TIME AND TIDE-」.
A really nice game that's cast just before the blue sub no.6 anime in which you basically run a salvage operation diving with a miniature submarine to old cities and the likes to salvage old equipment, money and other valuable items.
In the beginning your submarine is of course quite crappy and you don't really have that much options on prolonged stays underwater, performance or just fighting off the sea monsters that thinks you’re just flying around in a piñata filled with nice pink juicy flesh. But after salvaging a bit you start getting equipment and funds and the story kicks in.
You can walk around in the floating city (or it's just built on an old mountain of some sort) and talk to people, buy equipment, upgrades and take special salvage jobs. The sub part of the game itself is quite nice with diverse levels and it looks really nice and sharp while you play it on a VGA screen of some sort. It is quite a dark game, as you progress towards new levels you're going deeper and deeper into the ocean and you sometimes go into pitch dark caves. There is a sort of active sonar that works like a bats but it does attract enemies like the active sonar as well as using quite a bit of battery power which can be quite scarce at times.
About the sound, well underwater there is some nice moody background music under the mostly acoustic sounds, sonar and active sonar. It really suits the game and puts you on edge. Above the sea the music is a bit more cheerful of course. Over all the music is really good and there is some voice acting there as well as well as quite a few movies.
Heres a small video of it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSB2-3cXpvg)
The ending I think (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgqMqfqjePE), which happens to be part of the first episode I think.
cool!:blink:that game looks so awsome, shame i can't read japanese:(

Casual gamers? Actually a lot went wrong and a lot SEGA did, which is a shame because the Dreamcast was incredible for it's time. Nice list of games though. Headhunter was a classic.

If you look at stuff like the fishing rod in games like Soul Calliber and Virtua Tennis set the path Nintendo have followed and then the DreamArena and Dreamcast online gaming have been followed by the likes of Micrsoft and now Sony(who still haven't got it right:lol:). But Sega made so many mistakes and some really bad management at the time.
At least they haven't gone totally and games like NiGHTS, Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter and to a lesser extent Sonic have survived.

My top 10 games for the Dreamcast, right then...
1. Sonic Adventure 2
How cool was it to walk into school, see someone with a VMU, and challenge them to a Chao Battle in the middle of the hallway? "Too Awesome"
is the correct answer. The game itself was amazing, fast, and had a nice story to it. Special abilities were nice, and the Magic Gloves were funny. Plus, the two-player modes weren't cruddy.
2. Sonic Adventure
Honestly (don't hit me for this anyone) this was the only reason I got a
Dreamcast! I had enough for a PS2, and my dad told me to get that instead. I ignored him and held up SA, showing him TRUE SEGA appreciation!
3. Power Stone
Odd game that I got addicted to. I've never played anything like it!
4. Sonic Shuffle
Umm, yeah, the failed attempt at a Mario Party... Either way, I enjoyed it with my brothers, though it could be either TOO lengthy, or TOO short in multiplayer. The mini-games were great, the only reason I liked it, and there were a lot to choose from.
5. Crazy Taxi
It WAS party time. And yes, I had some fun.
6. Shining Force (Sega Smash Pack)
Even though it's LISTED as 6, it's my FAVORITE, hands down. Got me into the franchise, and I'm playing the sequal now!
7. House of the Dead 2
My introduction into home shooters. Dad was the Virtua Cop man, and we worked together for the common good! (sadly enough, on the controller and NOT a dreamcast gun cause I never found one :()
8. Outtrigger
REALLY fun on multiplayer, I can't describe it!
9. Sega Swirl (Internet Connections V2.1)
I don't know if it was ever out BEFORE Dreamcast, but I loved it.
10. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4
SKATE. BEEF. REPEAT.

i'm prety sure the 4th game never came out for the dreamcast!
The third game didn't come out for the Dreamcast, let alone the fourth! Only THPS & THPS2 were released on the console. I owned the first one and it was brilliant.
My best 10 games are:
1 REZ (the best shooter ever made on that system)
2 Ikaruga (2nd best shooter ever made)
3 Shenmue 1 & 2
3 Phantasy star online 1&2
4 Jet set radio
5 Crazy taxi 1&2
6 Resident evil: code Veronica
7 Skies of arcadia
8 Grandia 2

My favorites would have to be:
1.Sonic Adventure
2.Sonic Adventure 2
3.Power Stone 2
4.Power Stone
5.Marvel V.S. Capcom 2
6.Soul Calibur
7.Dead or Alive
8.Chu Chu Rocket
9.Vigilante 8: Second Offense
10.Crazy Taxi
11.Phantasy Star Online Ver. 2
To me, it would have to be Soul Calibur, far and away above all others.
There are a thousand reasons that anyone could quote that played it at the time. I'll tell you one you don't hear so often -
Soul Calibur was, without doubt, the biggest leap a genre has ever made in one burst.
That's a pretty bold statement, so I'll back it up for posterity. When the Saturn came out, I was foaming at the mouth on Christmas morning to get to play Virtua Fighter. There were other games, sure, but it was all about VF.
So I got my Saturn and played it, and yeah, I had fun. In terms of playability, it was arcade perfect, however, no-one can forget how much of a compromise of the arcade original it was - the characters were far more low poly, the light sourcing was thusly less pronounced, the models had mittens for hands and the stages were even less detailed.
But, VF2 was around the corner - and that was going to be great. We waited, and watched, reading the previews in the mags, till the day came and we all went to get VF2. Again, it played brilliantly, reasonably hi-res, good looking character models (for the time), but - of course - the stages were nowhere near the detail of the arcade, and again, the light sourcing was gone.
Soon, Tekken got into the swing of things with Tekken 3, which used plenty of texturing tricks to improve its visuals, but it was still low-res. Even Soul Edge/Blade managed to have 3D backgrounds, but its framerate was somewhat staccato and its overall look quite minimalist to preserve detail.
Tobal. Toshinden. Kensei Sacred Fist. Fighters Destiny. Even Sega's own Fighting Vipers and Fighters Megamix - all improved little by little, bit by bit. We had little bits of moving hair and clothing, a touch of light sourcing, more 3D-esque stage backgrounds, and things were moving on.
So the Dreamcast was released, and VF3tb came out for it - it looked good, sure, but some of the stages were toned down severely to work on the machine, and again, the characters had mitts for hands.
Then came Soul Calibur. In one game, Namco raised the bar higher than any other game in any genre has ever managed to do (rivalling even the likes of Goldeneye).
We now had high-resolution, gorgeously textured, brilliantly animated fighters - with elements of moving hair, flowing clothing (a little) and backgrounds that mixed 2D and 3D elements seamlessly. Who can forget the Venice stage? Who can forget watching that intro over and over again?
Hi-res? Check.
Detailed characters? Check.
Brilliant music? Check.
Great fighting system that even innovated with 8-way movement? Check.
60fps? Check.
Light-sourced characters? Check.
Well-rounded single-player experience? Check.
Great and interactive intro? Check?
Received a sequel years later, that only managed to look marginally better despite far superior hardware? Hell yes.
Soul Calibur was pure, unadulterated videogaming magic. We shall not see its like again.

Shenmue, without a doubt. Both Shenmue 1 and 2 were fantastic games, and were undoubtedly one of the main reasons I played my Dreamcast. It just saddens me to know I'll probably never be able to finish off the saga, though I said basically the same thing about Street Fighter a couple of months ago. Oh well, here's hoping!
Other than that, Soul Calibur was my favourite game. Then Capcom vs. SNK, Street Fighter III, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Jet Grind/Set Radio, Sonic Adventure and of course Chu Chu Rocket.

It's so much more happening than the Planet Dreamcast forum! Genuine Sega enthusiasts! I love it!
I agree with all the game choices on here, but everyones forgetting the mighty Hydro Thunder and Floigian Bros!:P
Right now all I own is Record Of Lodoss War and Shenmue. Shenmue is awesome and all, but I got lost! T_T It took me the entire day just to find my way back to the house.
My favorite games were:
Sonic Adventure
Crazy Taxi
Samba De Amigo
Shenmue
I have to agree with all that has been said already, glad to see Gundam,Furfighters,Cosmic Smash and TimeStalkers get some love!

Half Life-may have been a beta version, still was good.

Reading this thread just makes me miss my dreamcast even more. I've probably had 3 of em in my time and everytime I'm skint I end up selling it. Had A good selection of games aswell. Im such A dick.

I agree with a lot of vitamin D's choices, as I prefer the Beat 'em up genre (like to think its my speciality of something). As the dreamcast perfected some wonderous 2d games, whilst challenging for the 3D crown, I thought I'd include 5 of each:
1. Spawn: in the Demon's Hand
2. Sonic Adventure 1/2 (like an ongoing story to be honest)
3. Marvel vs Capcom 2
4. Capcom vs SNK 2000
5. Pen Pen
6. Project Justice: Rival Schools 2
7. Street Fighter 3: Third Strike
8. SF Alpha 3
9. Cannon Spike
10. Gunbird 2
(I would have included Zombie's Revenge, but I won't appreciate it fully until I can finish the game- or at least get past level 5!)

I agree with all the game choices on here, but everyones forgetting the mighty Hydro Thunder and Floigian Bros!:P
Thanks for that. I know I almost did. :P Hydro Thunder was the main reason I bought the system as I was addicted to it in the arcade. Of course, I could never get the arcade jump timing right after playing the Dreamcast game so much. :)
Mr. Driller
Virtua Tennis
Street Fighter III: Third Strike
Skies of Arcadia
Mark of the Wolves
Gunbird 2
Crazy Taxi
Typing of the Dead
Puyo Puyoon
Hydro Thunder
In no particular order and realizing I could never fit all of my favorites in some puny limited list. :P
Let me see now...
In no particular order
Capcom Vs SNK - Wrong decision to switch entirely to 4-button control but this is still awesome. Top gameplay and some of the best stage designs ever.
Crazy Taxi - I've played this almost as much as Metropolis Street Racer. More fun than a very fun thing indeed. I think my record in Original Mode is $105,000. Cripples your thumbs crazy-dashing all the time though.
Headhunter - Glorious. Great story, great script, great orchestral score by Richard Jacques and, best of all, top notch gameplay with tons of variety. Shame Headhunter: Redemption couldn't match the standards of its predecessor.
Hydro Thunder - Still the only game I've ever seen that has a config screen just for your rumble pack. And when you're hands have gone numb from that you can still get a kick out of jumping the dam AND the bridge on Lake Powell.
Metropolis Street Racer - Played to death. From Richard Jacques excellent dance music to his hilarious piss-takes on country and western to hundreds of courses around 9 huge city areas. Two months after finishing this I drove down to London with a friend of mine. Got onto the embankment at Chelsea and drove along the river. Arrived at Lambeth Bridge (the smaller bridge in the London Westminster circuit) and I suddenly knew where I was even though I'd never been there before! Very weird experience. Top game.
Outtrigger - I've got Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament as well but this gets more use when I've got friends around. It's just weird to see what is a very Western genre (FPS) done in a Japanese way (crisp, clean stages in bright colours) Good variety of weapons and great music. Single player is rubbish though.
Power Stone 2 - Machine guns, check. Flamethrowers, check. Axes, check. Skateboards, check. Meteors, eh? Tennis rackets, what?! You can't top a game in which you get to slap your mates around with a tuna. 4-player insanity. Great fun.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica - I've got the lazy ports of RE2 and RE3:N as well but this is just superb. Very atmospheric, great graphics and sound. Even the script and voice acting isn't as bad as usual. Top notch.
Shenmue - Utterly engrossing. If you can get into it, then you're gone. Who knew that going down the shops or working on the docks could be so enthralling. Magnificent game. I still haven't played Shenmue 2 yet though.
Streetfighter Alpha 3 - Huge character roster, great play mechanics and, best of all, two-on-one dramatic battles! Third party joypads with 6 face buttons are needed to get the best out of this but it's worth it.
Streetfighter 3: 3rd Strike - It's a superb game. Phenomenal graphics and sprite animation, top music. And depth, sheer all-encompassing depth. The parrying system is what took SF3 beyond the reach of mere mortals like me (I've managed a few in combat, but I need about a second's warning) but it makes this probably the best 2D fighter ever.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles - Yes, it's a lazy port of a PS game and yes the last level is riddled with bugs to avoid but the fact is I had great fun playing through this (even when I had to do the whole thing again due to said bugs) TR4 (The Last Revelation) was very hard and you had no real sense of place and why you were there (due to the fact that the plot was "Lara releases Egyptian God, now she's got to catch him") Chronicles however had 4 good stories, a sense of humour (sorely lacking in Last Revelation) and tons of variety. Great fun.
Virtua Tennis 2 - Awesome 4-player fun although it crippled my game in Top Spin, given that in VT2 you could press the button from somewhere near the ball and it would get you there somehow. It works like pinball but 4-up it's a riot.
V-Rally 2 - Arcade rally racer. Special for 1 reason. A superb track editor. Making ever more ludicrous tracks which allowed HUGE air, 360 aerial spins and, in the more powerful bonus cars a full barrel roll in mid-air, is where this game's core is. Real shame the editor was cut for V-Rally 3. :(
Hmmm, that's quite a long post. Sorry about that. I just like the stories behind games. Hope you do too. :)
Great fun.
Both of those games are ports of the PC versions and they both have superior graphics to the PS versions. Although they seem to have maped most of the PS controlls directly to the DC controller but I find that's ok as I played the PS versions first.:)

Then let me correct that.

Haven't played any of the Sonic series yet, but here are the games I love:
Soul Calibur of course
DoA 2
Unreal Tournament
Super Puzzle Fighter (just for fun)
And the game I like the most, though it's just a lame PSX port: Dino Crisis. I have yet to see such a complex game, loved hunting for all that stuff I needed to move on. Finished it for the second time today (I just got another DC a month ago, my old one's optical drive broke one year ago), and there's still so much to discover. Resident Evil is not my thing, but Dino Crisis is the bomb. Kinda reminded me of hunting for keycards in the old Doom games, that I played when I was like 8 and spooked the living crap out of me.
I'll be 17 in a few days, wow, how fast time passes. Anyway, although I've only had a DC since 2006, it still seems like a kick ass piece of hardware even in the current days of hi-def gfx. I do have a high-end PC but it feels almost useless for gaming as all that's worth of current games is the graphics. I'd rather play Doom II instead of Crysis...
It really has to be,
Shenmue
F355 Challenge
PSO "phone bill!!!"
Sonic Adventure.

The games for Dreamcast? Wow where do I start?
Shenmue, Shenmue 2 (import UK), Skies of Arcadia, Grandia 2, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Space Channel 5, Power Stone 2, Project Justice, Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, Vampire Chronicles, D2, Chu Chu Rocket (this games BEGS to be on XBLA!).
I can go on and on!

I'd have to say...Space Harrier on Shenmue. XD
Top of the list has to be Skies of Arcadia, then two Evolution games. Dreamcast was the best machine and I still play mine cause I can just turn it on and it "just" plays a game ! w00taga !

I feel like mentioning one of my favorite games for the Dreamcast was Fur Fighters! Who's played this fun 3rd-person shooter? The single player experience is a long and good one with plenty of humor and action along the way. Multiplayer was a blast to play with my little brothers. Who knew shooting the stuffing out of cuddly animals could be so much fun!

What are you waiting for ?? :P
I know this was a long time ago but I still haven't finished it. Because I bought the NTSC version for full speed and the game freezes when I fight the last boss when he does a certain attack... :(
