This is one of my favourite Saturn games, alongside Fighters MEGAMiX and NiGHTS, so play nicely :p

Anywho, did anybody else play this game, and if so, what did you think of it?

Personally, I loved the fact that, even though it was very short, the levels usually randomised, so you never played the same level layout twice in a row. Rescuing people was also rather swish, added a sort of Gotta-Catch-Em-All feel to the whole thing.

All in all, it's a game I loved at the time, and I wish I still had my Saturn so I could play it :(

Er... I'm at a loss for words... Is there any specific reason you decided to just post a single link on it's own without explanation?

Hmm..well, thanks for the link to the Game of the Month thread. I must admit, I didn't think about looking in that forum, I only looked in this one.

My bad, sorry :(

Don't worry, I don't see a problem with this as GOTM is random and a new thread would be started for it even if there was a Shenmue thread already foe example...

I agree with Mark, GOTM threads don't alter posting on the other boards, so long as it's all kept on topic and no two threads are for the same discussion. As to Burning Rangers, all I have is small memories from owning the game years ago, would love a new copy of it for my Saturn. I remember the controls being fluid when I played it, even though I never owned the NiGHTS pad.

Nah, I didn't have the NiGHTS pad either, though it was something I wanted, and probably should've hunted out once I'd actually bought NiGHTS.

I think I liked how it played, and how the story panned out, compared to what I actually thought it would be. On paper, a fire fighting game sounds quite dull, but the actual game itself wasn't really fire fighting, was it?

Well, it was, but it had more to it, that's what I'm trying to say :p

I just recently played it. I really did like it actually. But I think everyone must admit, that the graphics are, especially in the later missions, rather buggy. Missing Polygons everywhere, slowdowns and clipping errors, too. The first mission looks best and they really should have put a little bit of bug fixing into it. I think the Saturn is capable of way more.

For me, it was a good game, even if I haven't play it yet.
The music was great, when I first heard it from Sonic Pinball Party. I knew that I needed to download the soundtrack, and thanks to RadioSega, now I have it.
Also, it seems to be good for a Saturn game. I know that the games have some glitches, but it's okay, there isn't a game that is perfect.

I think Burning Rangers was one of the best games released for the Saturn. It played like a true Sonic Team classic. Hopefully they will make a follow up to this game without messing it all up like they have done with a certain other character!

I saw Burning Rangers in a shop for £25 and thought it was to expensive. Its not fair. Its like Metallix put a high-price on it on purpose. :nono:

You should have snapped that up, man. Though I guess you don't need
me telling you that.

I got my copy for £13.50 on greedBay a couple of weeks ago. Right place at the right time, I guess.

Gavvie

Yeah, £25 isn't really all that bad, considering it was one of the last 1st party Saturn games and is a rare game to find in PAL territories. I've seen it on eBay for £35-40 before, so..yeah.

I've been wanting to play this for ages now, does anyone know if the Japanese version has English text like NiGHTS? I want that version for the soundtrack and it's also easier to find then the US version.

I'd be very careful if I was you. The game depends heavily on the voice of a navigator guiding you through levels. Vital during your first few goes at the game.

Gavvie

Yeah, I'd play it safe and hunt down an English version. The soundtrack's pretty much the same, except for the vocal tracks, which are obviously in English and not Japanese.

I never had enough time to give it a proper go when I was home (I keep most of my games stuff in my parents house) so basically I've only played the first level a few times. Its good but I do remember wishing the controls were a bit more intuitive then they are. I got it for like £20 or so randomly in a shop, it seems to be one of those games that are cheaper in the wild then on eBay.

Not sure if this warrents a new topic but still since this is a Burning Ranger thread I thought I'll put this here.

The new issue of Games TM (issue 69) has a making of Burning Rangers.

Oh, that's weird. Are they doing it as part of a retro feature, or is it a part of the main magazine?

Sounds strange to be doing a "Making Of" of a game that came out nearly 10 years ago.

Embarrassed to say I have Burning Rangers, but never played it,
one day I will set up my Saturn. I bought the Saturn with the intention of using it but when I got it off ebay I turned it on to see that it worked then packed it away, never to be used again, lol.

Its part of the Retro section of the magazine.

Burning Rangers is an absolute classic, it had great effects, good large levels, nice action, bosses were good fun, and not to mention great soundtrack and anime, a real classic sonic team game. I alkso hope they make a new one without messing it up

Burning Rangers is a game I never got to play. Just by watching videos on Youtube this game kicks ass. SonicTeam did an awesome job on this game.

I check out the website gamespot quite alot for news and reviews but I think i've just lost all respect for it. They gave this 6.2 in there review. They even gave casper the friendly ghost 6.7. Thats just insane.

They suck on giving scores to older games. A lot of Saturn titles have crappy scores there.

GameSpot are just shite in general. They don't know how to rate games with any degree of respect, and haven't been able to do so for ages. I'd much rather trust IGN or Eurogamer, to be honest.

I'm going to buy one from eBay someday because I really want to play it!

I got this game the other week off 'greedbay' after being intrigued by it for may years but never before actually taking the pluge. 20 beans or thereabouts it cost. I quite like it, got to the level where big robots with propellors are charging me, and then my dextrosity with the game is not yet good enough to dodge them. I like the way you have to listen for audible clues for dodging explosions. The voices of the characers though are utterly detestable. Shame.

Burning Rangers was a great game, but I think it never really took off because most think, "A firefighting game, why would I wanna play that" which sucks because it's really good even though it suffers from bad voice acting like every other 90's game with voice over. At least it doesn't have some live action cut-scenes.

I was never blessed to find it at my local stores. Our new mom'n'pop just closed down the Saturn section, due to the inevitable influx of mediocre sports titles.

I only buy SNES titles there now, but I do wish they'd get something like Burning Rangers every now and then. Life is harsh.
