What's your favorite hard SEGA moments?

Post by Twinny »

I saw this sort of thread on the SSMB and I thought, "How about bastard hard moments in the world of SEGA gaming?" So I'm asking the RadioSEGA community, what are your favorite "love to hate," "so-fustratingly-hard-and-challenging-you-just-want-to-pull-your-hair-out-and-scream-to-the-heavens" bastard hard moments from your favorite SEGA games?

Mine has to be the final boss from Jet Set Radio Future. Not only did it took my brother nearly two and a half hours to beat it (yes, I know... TWO AND A HALF  ) but most of that time was me and my brother trying to actually reach the top. We kept messing up our timing while on the way towards the top too. And then we tried spraying the boss with the paint but it was really tricky to do so.

Soooo...how about you all? Did your controllers get all sweaty from the intense playing? :)

Hmmm... I was going to say about Tekken but since this is SEGA, I'll have to go with something else.

I do always get frostrated when I am fighting the last boss boss of Sonic heroes with Team Dark. What was it called? Egg Empror I think. Anyway, not just that his hard but he always says "TAKE THIS!" or something like that and it drives you nuts! AHHH! I still haven't finished him because the bloody PS2 version of the game is INSANE!

Hardest SEGA moment was playing on the hardest difficulty in Empire Total War. I was the Netherlands and as soon as the game began every country around me declared war on me.
Prussia coming from the east, france from the west, and england from the north.
Prussia is always a dick in the game, and england got mad at me for trying to make peace with france to avoid a war. Plus Spain decided to send their navy to my bay to block my ships so i was pretty much stuck.
Netherlands only starts off with one small group of soldiers and a small fleet. Everyone else starts off with a decent army.

Luckily the netherlands owns Sri Lanka. There i built an army and navy (With help from India) and sent them off to the capital and pushed the enemy's armys back to a certain point. Took that time to recruit some millitia and a few more units. Then with all my remaining money i convinced Russia to be my ally. Then every nation wanted peace (Except Prussia of course >.>)
That was the hardest game i played in Empire...Nearly lost the capital a few dozen times but the city wall made it impossible to be taken over.

I've had some difficulty on some of the later levels on Super Monkey Ball and Billy Hatcher that made me rage. Can't remember which though. Certain levels and later bosses on some Sonic games make me mad too. I think I remember the grinding levels in Sonic Heroes being a pain in the ass and in order to avoid dying I would usually try to be in the flight mode. I also used a certain trick to quickly make a team blast in order to get past the bigger robot mofos in the game.

Your only option IS usually going with flight on the rails but it's usually slow as hell and it takes a long time untill you get to the other side.

^ Better safe, than sorry. But I think I occasionally used speed before switching to flight.

Other Sega games...

Oh! After Burner and Space Harrier, as cool as they seem, I can never get very far in these games haha. I only last less than 5 minutes I think.

My hardest moment was trying to beat Shinobi on Hard for the Genesis. Emphasis on trying, because I didn't. Maybe one day.

No one has mentioned the barrel on Sonic 3 yet? :P

I have many frustrating memories from Sonic games, especially the 3D ones. Oddly, I can't think of any non-Sonic ones at the moment o_O

Edit: Only one I can think of is one of the last battles in Shining Force 2 where you need to fight the chess pieces. That was a nightmare.

How could I forget about Sonic 2!? The thing that certainly pissed me off most was the PIT! The bloody pit in mystic cave zone! It was so annoying because that was the time where I turned into Super Sonic and I wanted to just go fast in a strait line and suddenly out of no where I got blocked and fell down to this bloody pit that had spikes under it and there was no bloody way to get up and you had to wait and wait until your rings ran out and you died. A slow and painful death...

And speaking of Sonic 2, I remember the first time I saw that spinning red pillar in Casino Night zone.
I tried so many things but I couldn't make it move. And it was pretty annoying when I found out that the only thing that I had to do was PRESS BLOODY UP AND DOWN!

The right of passage that is beating Outrun for the first time can be quite hard. You have to remember every corner so you don't smash into the scenery that's really close to the track, then the traffic is different every time so you need to be sharp enough to avoid any collisions and it's quite fast so you need the brakes a fair bit. I think you can probably get away with two small crashes or one big one, but no more. Once you manage one route the rest come quite easily though. I haven't played it in about 3 years but I reckon I know most of the game off by heart still, the knowledge seems to stay there somehow.
Tic Tac, sir?
