Post by Kaito-kun »

Just a quick question that was spawned out of a dicussion in college today. Which version of Sonic 1 is considered the be the more difficult of the two? The Master System game or the Mega Drive one?

Care to explain why?

Both of them are quite easy games so choosing which one is harder is...hard. I'll choose the megadrive version just because
of labyrinth zone act 1, 2, 3 and 4 (scrap brain zone act lol)

One issue with me is the chaos emeralds. It is far more easier for me to get the emeralds in the special stages than having to go and ding them and even than, it was pretty hard to find the root to the chaos emerald.
Another issue was when you got hit by an enemy. In the Genesis version, if you get hit by an enemy, your rings fly around and you can still catch them but in the master system, if you get hit, only one ring flies away and you can't even catch that.

..Oh come on it's not THAT bad. And there's probably a reason why no rings pop out. It's the SMS. It can't handle that much on screen at once.

^ He does have a point.

As for the topic, both versions have their difficulties. The SMS is, of course, the emeralds for the good ending. The MD/Genesis version is Labyrinth Zone, as Gonic mentioned.

In fairness, both are easy. :l

I haven't actually played through the one on the SMS but on the MD, its pretty easy up until the next to last stage, which..I'm guessing that's the labyrinth zone.

Genesis version. I found the stages to be more difficult, in the SMS i found it a breeze to beat but the SMS does have a few difficulty spikes in some parts.

So, there isn't one that's generally considered by the community a whole to be more difficult than the other. Thank you. ^_^

To be honest I actually like the Sonic games on SMS. Sure they're not anything like the Genesis counterparts, but if you look at it as just a platformer with the Sonic name slapped on it then it's not too bad. Tis entertaining.
