iPod/iPhone Jailbreaking

Post by Kaito-kun »

I've been curious about this lately lately. A couple of simple questions: What are the advantages and disavatages of jailbreaking an iOS device? What's the status of it's legality?

As far as I'm aware, Jailbreaking, like unlocking, is legal as you own the device you are working with. If you then use your jailbroken phone to install unlicenced software, then legality becomes an issue.

By jailbreaking though, you void any warranty or contract of support you may have taken out with Apple / the network provider.
Long time lurker and sometimes chief assistant. More the former.

M'kay, I wouldn't be after that piracy sort of thing. I'm more interested in device customization.

That's like downloading a torrent file because the icon would look nice on your desktop :P

Legality is an issue too, Sony just won that case against the guy that hacked his PS3 and that's without pirating anything

Are there any dangers to jailbreaking, like the PSP?
