Weather in gaming

Post by DigiDragoon »

Thought I'd make this because I've always wanted to ask people this, But anyway I'm wanting to know what you guys think about weather in games, which is your fav game for weather and stuff like that.
For some reason I quite like it when it rains in Video Games, Usually when it rains in Games it is because of a tense like moment and the rain is quite calmming.
So let me hear your thoughts guys

I want more tornadoes...

One reason i love simcity is for the disasters! Wreck your city with floods, volcanoes, lighting, fire, tornadoes, etc.

I always like Silent Hill 1 because that cloudy weather that SH have and Resident Evil don't. Resident Evil don't have a "creepy" weather, is a city destroyed or a mansion in the night, nothing more (I'm refering to Resident evil 1, 2 or 3), but Silent Hill...I remember that cloudy weather plus suddenly get dark and you walk for the streets with a ligther...The weather of Silent Hill is awesome...really feel like you are in the game scary every step. This is about horror games.

For Sonic for example I like a lot the sunny weather of Green Hill Zone...I feel great when I'm doing tricks in the air on Sonic Generation with the background of a clear blue sky with the sunshine...Can sound stupid, but I played Sonic Generarion or Sonic R a lot of times only for play Green Hill Zone, Rooftop run or Resort Island from Sonic R because I feel great and calm playing that nice stages, and Sonic R have a plus because I hear my favourite song but is weird hear it while is snowing on Resort Island xP

Weather is cool, it's really nothing more than a visual effect (unless it's something like Harvest Moon) but it's a great way to make a world feel more immersive. Best example would be Red Dead Redemption, riding out in a heavy storm looked amazing.

Weather effects in games are great, because not only it can create moods, it also takes out the monotony from the game. If the weather affects the gameplay, then is a plus.
