Cheap Deaths in Gaming

Post by Gonic »

I dont know what made me think of this...but have you ever played a game and died because of something cheap the game developer put in there? Share them here! :D

One that springs to mind for me is the modern stage for Seaside Coast in sonic generations (3DS) halfway through the stage you are force to run along this path, in the middle of it is a gap that will drop you into the water...and it will catch you more then once.

Hmm...nearly anything that can screw you over in Sonic 2006. Namely dying by running into a half foot of water. And the Mach Speed sections.

There was something in...was it Crash 1 or Jak 3...but I forgot....

Quite a few Sonic games spring to mind when I get hit by an enemy during a jump or get hit right on the edge and fall backward into a pit.
Mostly in 2D sections/games.

Just kidding....Rocket Knight Adventures...the boss on Stage 6.

8 Hearts on normal mode....the boss takes 5 and a half of that if you merely TOUCH the fucker. :@

Would the medusa heads count as one? Seriously, especially in old castlevania games, whenever a pit is near.
Since I'm on this subject, Death from the first Castlevania. =P

Stage 7 from the Revenge of Shinobi needs a really precise jump that could cost many lives.

And nothing more at the moment that I remember...

I can't necessarily think of an specific examples but I hate those games where the enemy(usually the boss) deals this HEAVY load of damage by even TOUCHING it and you barely scratch it. So you have to waste humongous amounts of health potions/capsules/drinks to get your health back up while fighting him.
I'd say this would probably apply to turn based RPGs more.

Not exactly a death per se, but I'm quite fed up of rubber banding in racing games, particularly kart racers.

You can be miles behind the AI in last place with no chance of catching them, but as soon as you're ahead, no matter what the distance is between you and 2nd, you can guarantee that they'll be on your arse in the final corner.
