Chickaroo Reviews - Super Princess Peach (DS)

Post by chickaroo1 »

Who says that only Mario and Luigi can save the day? Not this princess! Peach is finally in her own unique game that can be pretty fun at times.

Game:Super Princess Peach
Systems:Nintendo DS
Release Dates:10/20/05 (JP), 2/27/06 (NA), 3/30/06 (AUS), 5/26/06 (EU)
Developers:TOSE

Girl Power!
Story:Vibe Island is a place rumored to hold secret powers. So Bowser decides to build a summer home there. He sends an army of Goombas to kidnap Mario and to retrieve the Vibe Septor. Peach and Toad along with Peach’s parasole, Perry, head out to rescue Mario and others on this strange island.

PMS (Peach May Strange)
Gameplay:The game is your average platformer. Peach has the ability to jump, glide with Perry, attack with him and as well as having new powers. The game’s gimmick is the the little hearts at the bottom screen. Each heart represents an emotion: Joy, Gloom, Rage and Calm. Joy gives you the ability to float while Peach looks like she’s in a well, joyous mood. Gloom makes Peach cry and run faster as well as her tears putting out fires. Rage sets Peach on fire, giving her to be able to burn through enemies and light things up. Calm basically restores health if needed.
How you can activate the powers is by a meter on the screen. To get the meter to fill up, you can grab Koopa shells and squat to have Perry to convert it into juice for the meter.
You can buy upgrades in the shop. As well as play some mini games if you wish once you unlock them.

Light and Fluffy
Music:Expect to hear someMarioesque music here. It’s good and sweet.
Music is composed by Akira Fujiwara.

Best Game With Peach?
Overall:Super Princess Peachis a pretty good game. It’s fun, simple and colorful. But the game can be too easy at times and the plot and mechanics can be questionable at times. But nonetheless, fun.

I found that the fact the only female fronted game in the series is centered around using emotions to win put me off, I would have rather had her be a lot less stereotypical.
