Chickaroo Reviews - Mario Kart 7 (3DS)

Post by chickaroo1 »

What? Did Nintendo run out of subnames for the Mario Kart franchise? Oh well, let's just enjoy another entry in the Mario Kart series.

Game: Mario Kart 7
Systems: Nintendo 3DS
Release Dates: 12/1/11 (JP), 12/2/11 (EU), 12/3/11 (AU), 12/4/11 (NA)
Developers: Retro Studios

On Land, Underwater or In the Air
Gameplay: As you would expect, this is a kart racing game. There’s single player, multiplayer and online mode. In single player, you can race in a grand prix or on a single track, Balloon Battle or Coin Runners. And as always, a time trial is available.
There are 8 playable characters at the start of the game (9 if you count your Mii). And a grand total of 8 grand prixs, making it a total of 32 tracks in all. 16 of those tracks come from previous Mario Kart games.
You even get to customize your kart before you start a race. Pick a car, a tire and a glider and you’re good to go. As you drive in a race, there are some parts where you can go underwater or in the air and glide. Controls are the same in both water and air.

Sharp and Crisp
Graphics: For a 3DS title, this looks great. It’s nice, bright and colorful. Everything looks cartoony and cute, as it’s meant to be.

Pumping Up For a Race
Music: It’s good. Not too memorable but good. Especially the Music Room stage.
Music is composed by Kenta Nagata and Satomi Terui.

A Good Kart Racer?
Overall: Mario Kart 7 is another good kart racer. It does something different and succeeds at it. As of right now it’s one of the most best selling 3DS games and probably the only good kart racer on the platform for now. Nothing can beat the Mario Kart series.
