Chickaroo Reviews - Boulder Dash EX (GBA)

Post by chickaroo1 »

Ooh the nostalgia is coming back to me on this game! But is it still playable?
Game:Boulder Dash EX
Systems: Game Boy Advance
Release Dates: 9/27/02 (NA)
Developers: Kemco
Is There A Story?
Story:From what I can remember, the EX mode in the game had a story mode. The hero, Alex, must save his girlfriend (?) from the Dark King as he makes his way to the castle to rescue her.
Highly Addictive, Goodness
Gameplay:There are two games to choose from. EX game and Classic game. Classic game is the original Boulder Dash game from 1984. It’s a little fun and challenging, just like most 80’s arcade games.
EX Game however, is different. There’s a story mode, battle mode, and a tutorial. Tutorial teaches you how to the play the game. Battle mode is where you can play against a computer or a friend (with those cables). And Story mode is where you go to 6 worlds and go through the worlds to get to your girlfriend.
Now for the actual gameplay. So the goal is to either get to the end and/or to get the most diamonds within the amount of time. You start off out of a golden gate. You have to clear off the tiles, not get crushed by the rocks and collect as much diamonds as possible. It’s simple and addicting!
Furry Spritely
Graphics:For a GBA game, the sprites are good! It’s colorful, cartoony and cute. And the Classic Game looks like it’s 1984 version just a little bit updated. They look nice.
Bobbing, But a Tad Bit Repetitive
Music:The music is very catchy and fun. But after a while, it gets a little repetitive. But it will get stuck in your head for a while.
A Good Puzzler?
Overall:Boulder Dash EX is a pretty good game. It can keep you entertained for a couple of hours. It’s pretty fun to play single player or even multiplayer. And the original game is pretty fun too if you like classic arcade games.
