Welcome to Pandora!
Story: A group of hunters head to the planet of Pandora. Pandora is a dangerous planets full of crazy monsters and creatures and even crazier people! But that won’t stop the next vault hunters. The hunters are Roland the Soldier, Mordecai the Hunter, Lilith the Siren and Brick as himself (a Beserker). Who will get the Vault?
Mr. FPS and Miss RPG Had a Baby
Gameplay: So the game is a mix of a first person shoot and an role playing game. At the beginning of the game, you get to pick who you get to play as. Each vault hunter has different abilities. The Siren can “phasewalk”, and has advantages with SMG / elemental weapons. The Hunter enhances sniper rifles and pistols. He can use his pet Bloodwing to attack enemies from above. The Soldier is good with combat rifles and shotguns. He can use a Scorpion Turret attack as his special move. And last but not least, the Berserker loves using his fists. His special move is using a crap-ton of guns and going, well, berserk. Everyone can use any type of gun.
The game is very heavy on shooting, but also on EXP. This is where the RPG elements come to play. Your character can level up, which levels up their shield and health. Shields are a very awesome thing in this game. If you get shot during combat, then your shield will go down, not your health. But if your shield goes down all the way, then your health will too. Thus, leading to a possible death. If your character loses their health, they get on their knees and there you can get a chance to get Second Wind. If you can kill an enemy nearby, some of your health will come back and you can be back up. If you don't get to kill something within the time, you will be teleported back to the nearest checkpoint you came across.
You can customize your character, but only with color schemes. You can change the color of their shirt, hair and pants.
There are a LOT of guns in this game. There are many types, all in different shapes and sizes. Long range, short range, you name it, it’s here.
You can also drive around a car to reach places that are pretty long and far on foot. One person can drive while the other can shoot.
There’s many quests to do in Borderlands.
Is This A Comic Book?
Graphics: The game’s art style reflects the look of a comic book. With thick lines outlining everything, and places not looking super realistic. This is cel-shading. And boy does this game look gorgeous and awesome. Had this game not been cel-shaded, this wouldn’t have gotten the attention.
Welcome to the Country
Music: The music is there, but it’s kinda vacant. Pandora’s environments reflect that of a typical desert. Rocky, dry, and dirty. The music is pretty good and the theme song, “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” by Cage the Elephant is a good jam.
Music is composed by Sascha Dikiciyan, Cris Velasco, Jesper Kyd, and Raison Varner.
A Breakout Hit?
Overall: Borderlands is a very unique game among the triple A games out there. With it’s comic book art style, hilarious humor and great gameplay, fans and newcomers will definitely enjoy the breath of fresh air in this game.
