Chickaroo Reviews - Sonic Lost World (3DS)

Post by chickaroo1 »

Hey look! A new Sonic game! And you know, after the success of Generations, you’d think Sonic is back on track of things rIGHT? RIGHT? Well boy do I have a game for you today folks.Game: Sonic Lost World
Systems: Wii U, Nintendo 3DS
Release Dates: 10/18/13 (EU), 10/19/13 (AUS), 10/24/13 (JP), 10/29/13 (NA)
Developers: Sonic Team and Dimps
Crash Landing on a Planet? What Else is New?
Story: So Sonic and Tails are hot on Eggman’s trail since he’s trying to use the woodland creatures as robots. As they try to get close to him, Eggman shoots down Tails’ plane and down they go to a world called “Lost Hex”. They decide to go through the planet and try to get to Eggman, who helps out the villains on the planet, the Deadly Six.
Hardcore Parkour
Gameplay: So the game relies on its parkour gameplay. The levels are set up to sort of use the parkour gameplay such as jumping from wall to wall, running up walls and more. Also, Sonic isn’t very fast. He has more of a jog. He has a running button too. A running button. It’s pretty ridiculous. But it kinda makes sense. The game is a lot more reliant on platforming than speed. Which can be seen as good or bad. The platforming itself can be tricky, as it is hard to do some of the parkour. Other than that, the game still plays a tad bit like your typical Sonic game. Same robot styled enemies and some creatures from the worlds you explore in.
Oh yeah. The Wisps from Colors is back. At least some of them. Drill, Laser and Rocket to be exact and some new ones too.
Boss battles are almost too easy. They’re just super easy it kind of hurts. But the rest of the levels are just either really easy or ridiculously hard.
Them Colors, But Sadly Pixelated
Graphics: Graphically speaking, it looks alright. It’s very colorful and what not. But the cutscenes are from the Wii U version and man they don’t look very good. They look compressed down and blurry. Turning on the 3D kind of helps, but not a whole lot. As for the rest of the game, it looks fine.
A Lack of Upbeat-ness
Music: Lost World’s soundtrack is alright. It’s not the best soundtrack. Heck, it’s barely rememerable. I just wish it were better.
Music is composed by Tomoya Ohtani, Takahito Eguchi, and Naofumi Hataya.
Is Sonic Going Downhill Again?
Overall: Sonic Lost World is not a very good game. It’s alright in a way, but not very good. The plot is bland (though it is a Sonic game), the gameplay is weird and doesn’t respond, and the soundtrack isn’t very good either. And the Sonic series was on a good streak too, what happened?

Bummer to hear about the handheld edition not being so hot. Sega has been on a roller coaster after Generations "success". Maybe they need to rewind their games and just bring back what works.
