Chickaroo Reviews - Pokemon Shuffle (3DS)

Post by chickaroo1 »

Well, looks like Nintendo has joined the Candy Crush bandwagon as the 3DS has its first freemium game! And boy can it get addicting!Game: Pokemon Shuffle
Systems: Nintendo 3DS
Release Dates: 2/18/15 (World Wide)
Developers: Genius Sonority
How Many Times Have We Seen This Before?
Gameplay: Gameplay wise, this game is easily compared to Candy Crush, the mega hit puzzle game that can be played on smartphones. It’s a very simple game. At the beginning you will capture a few pokemon to start off with. Each stage’s goal is to defeat a wild pokemon in a certain amount of moves. You can use up to about 4 pokemon per stage, but some may require 3 to be used. How to defeat a pokemon is to match up any of your pokemon 3 or more in a row and they will attack the pokemon. If you defeat the pokemon within the amount of moves you’re given, you have a chance to capture it. If you can’t catch it, you have a chance to get a great ball to catch it again if you have enough coins. You earn coins by defeating pokemon or by checking in the game daily.
You have a total of 5 hearts to use. Basically, you have 5 turns. You can earn back a turn every half hour. It’s a little tedious but I don’t mind it. But some people complain about it and as well as the micro-transactions you can buy. It’s all up to you if you want to buy those or not. I normally play the game once a day.
Cartoony Pokemon Heads!
Graphics: This game is very colorful and cartoony. The heads of the pokemon are pretty cute to look at and it’s just a colorful joy to look at. It’s simple, but it works.
Peaceful French Music
Music: The music is pretty peaceful and relaxing. It’s not the battle music from the actual games, but hey, these sound pretty good. It’s upbeat and catchy.
Music is composed by Tsukasa Tawada.
A Great Free Puzzle Game for the 3DS?
Overall: Pokemon Shuffle is a pretty okay game. I mean, it does borrow heavy elements from many puzzle games on the mobile market, but it works. People have complained about the microtransactions but you know what, don’t buy them. It’s nice to see a free-to-play game on the 3DS, but it’s only downfall is that it’s pretty much just your standard mobile game with a coat of Pokemon over it.
