JP Games on an EU Dreamcast?

Post by Kaito-kun »

As the title suggests, is it possible (or preferably "easy") to run Japanese Dreamcast games on a European system?

Burn something like the gameshark cdx and run the game through that.
It even changes the swirl from blue to orange.

Alternatively, you can use the utopia boot disc.

If your Dreamcast is a Model 0 or 1, that is for burning.
Collection; Neo Geo CD, JVC X'Eye, Model 1 Genesis, Model 2 Genesis, 2 Japanese Saturns, 2 Game Gears in a few thousand pieces, 5 or 8 PS1s (don't judge), 1 PS1 DTL (TOOL, NOT a Yaroze), 1 Gamecube, 1 Wii, 1 Xbox 360, 2 Gameboy Advances, 1 3DS, 1 PS2 TEST that WORKS!!!

Do I have a console addiction?

He said EU Dreamcast, and all EU ones are model 1.
Additionally, model 2 ones before December 2000 can play burned discs as well

It's a lot more difficult these days. You used to be able to buy a cdx for about a fiver off eBay, but they have since disappeared into the midst of time.
Tic Tac, sir?

Man, this seems like way too much hassle for what I wanted to use it for. I'll just skip it and enjoy the pretty box instead.

I appreciate the insight everyone!

Burning a disc and seeing if it boots up is too much hassle?
I thought physically modding the console was considered a hassle (those were the days) :p

I bought an Xploder for Dreamcast once. I think it was just for modding cheat codes into games, though, the box didn't say much about booting foreign games. I don't even think I've got it anymore either, so I can't check.

What I DO have, though, are some burned games that somebody made for me back when I was in college. I forget exactly how he'd done it, but he'd found a way to bypass the system's region check, so you could play any game so long as the system THOUGHT it was a PAL release. He very kindly made me copies of Illbleed, Sonic Shuffle and Half-Life ^_^

Already got the JP game I want to play, so sadly that doesn't really help me, Gav.
