I don't run a music streaming service or have anything to do with Radio Sega, but I help operate a SQL server at my work. It normally just takes storage space, setting up any arrays that are needed, and having hardware that can pull the data and process it in a reasonable time. The Radio Sega setup seems to be nice because I have rarely seen it drop offline. Although when it does it makes work suck because I listen to it all the time while I am at work.
Yup Midwinters right. The songs are just stored on a cloud service. SQL & PHP do something magic with the database and it pulls the songs ups that are requested. The only strain on the server is the playing of each track/Live shows.
