Has Sega got plans for their next mini console

Post by BenFioren »

Hi all
I hope I've not missed a post relating to this. But I wonder if Sega will give us a new mini console.
My dream mini console would actually be the Mega CD/Sega CD. So many great games on it, despite what naysayers will tell you. Though many great mega cd games actually came from other companies, so licencing would be an issue ( Snatcher from Konami!)

Any news on Sega's plans, or give us your idea what the next mini console should be?

If another is planned, we don't know about it. Their public focus is on promoting the current system.

Public opinion is split on whether a follow-up system would be based on SEGA SATURN or Dreamcast, and there is a minority that hopes for it to be about the MASTER SYSTEM. I lean on the SEGA SATURN side.

Id definitely lean more on the Saturn side than Dreamcast too. It had so many cool games, I even loved it's Sega baseball with digitised players ( if I remember correctly ).
All sega sports games on the Saturn were great, plus the racing games.
I wasn't a fan of fighting games myself, but I'm well aware the Saturn was a powerhouse for them.
Any games in particular you'd want on a saturn mini?

I've made a couple lists for fun before. My most recent list doesn't cover any particular region, so it's more of a "I expect at least one region to have a game I listed". It's also incomplete at just 25 games. I don't have enough experience with the SEGA SATURN library to provide an interesting list.

01. Virtua Fighter 2
02. DAYTONA USA Championship Circuit Edition
03. LAST BRONX
04. SONIC 4
05. SONIC 3D: FLICKIES' ISLAND
06. Sakura Wars
07. NiGHTS into dreams...
08. ASTAL
09. DRAGON FORCE
10. MAGIC KNIGHT RAYEARTH
11. DIE HARD ARCADE
12. GRANDIA
13. PANZER DRAGOON
14. PANZER DRAGOON SAGA
15. BUG!
16. J.LEAGUE VICTORY GOAL: VGOAL '96
17. SEGA RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
18. LUNAR: Silver Star Story
19. STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 2
20. BURNING RANGERS
21. fIGTHERS MEGAMiX
22. RADIANT SILVERGUN
23. COTTON 2
24. Baku Baku Animal
25. CLOCKWORK KNIGHT

Some nice lists and it'd be great but there's very little chance of it IMO, the Mega CD and Saturn just weren't popular enough, sadly.

SEGA SATURN was very popular in Japan, and has some niche popularity in other territories.

Actually talking about niche market. The PC Engine /Turbo grafx wasnt hugely big so lets see how well their new mini sells.
I'm definitely buying one.

Oooh I just thought. What if instead of a new mini console, Sega actually gave us game compilations ( Not the same megadrive ones we keep getting ) .
So for instance youd get a ' Sega arcade collection ' , ' Saturn collection ', ' mega cd collection ' etc.
Seems like less risk than a mini console.

Will it happen? Its likely but too late for ps4 and xbox one. It would be on the next systems

That's a good point.

I have also pre ordered one. In the UK at least this is an Amazon exclusive - what about elsewhere around the world folks?
