It's because they are the countries crazy anough pay for this madness. It's bad enough the big benefactor countries never win because of vote rigging, would be a joke if they weren't even allowed in.

Yea, it's bad enough Germany won last year. Those rigged votes from the Eastern bloc voting mafia!! NEVER a Western European country wins! Those German Slavic bastards! Derp.

Portugal wasn't good. It's a comedian group representing socialists from the revolutionary Portugal. I don't understand how they could assume to achieve something with that at Eurovision. Unfortunately, San Marino didn't make it through, but I'm content with Switzerland, Serbia and Iceland.

Oh right. That settles it then, no rigged voting in the eurovision whatsoever. Nope, none. Ziltch. Not a sniff of it. You heard the man.

And thank god you told us that, because everyone else in the world ever with a brain thinks the opposite. What am I saying - knows the opposite.

I did watch it years ago for a laugh, but it got boring watching the British song get trashed every year because of what Tony Blair did.

Saying that, the Flying the Flag song didn't deserve nil points, it deserved a mad man in the crowd shooting at the band.

Oh Mr. Know-It-All, first of all, you said "the 5 countries never win". I prove you wrong. That was the entire point of that paragraph you quoted. I never said there wasn't problems with the voting system, but the political voting actually was far worse before they introduced the televoting.

Look, if your country always sends garbage, then it would be rigged if your country won, right?
The past 10 or so years almost always were shitty songs from the UK, and that one or two times it was a decent song, it actually got in like what, 3rd or 4th place? I wouldn't call that "getting trashed" at all.

Seriously, the last two years a Western European country won and yet people still claim only the Eastern European countries win all the time and Western Europe has no chance. And especially the British always say how much shit the contest is because they never win, yet they won in 1997 and like 5 times total - and that they act like everybody should love them, yet they only send utter garbage to the contest. Other countries NEVER won at all despite taking part since like the 60s (like Portugal or Iceland) or won only once.

This self-righteousness of you Brits when it comes to this contest really pisses me off.

Jesus, you've been watching the contest for 10 years and haven't realised it's rigged? That's probably worse than watching wrestling for ten years and still thinking it's real.

I'm happy those three went through: I liked their entries, however, I liked Portugal and Norway more.

I don't think it's rigged. Perhaps in the past there have been some entries that have done a little better than I think deserved but other people might have liked them.

And Option's right about the UK. Whether it's political or not, we do send a lot of crap as entries and we usually end up with the votes we deserve.

Yeah you see you've actually highlighted the contradiction in your argument there though. It's either rigged or it isn't. And a quick look at the wikipedia page will show you it was considered so bad under a pure televoting system that they've had to employ some kind of jury system to even out the bias (as if that will work). Plus of course we suffered the loss of Terry Wogan who resigned in outrage when a black dude just happened to come last.

3 last places in the last few years is not because of bad songs, they're all crap really. it's because we aren't in some sad clique to exchange 12 points with and some people have something against the UK.

I reckon it's jealousy. I mean come on, we are pretty much the greatest country in the history of pop music - unquestionably in Europe. Dire Straights, Depeche Mode, Judas Priest, just some of the legends from these shores. What the hell has Europe given us? Whigfield, the Venga Boys and that Maya-hee band. It's just a fact that even the crumbs from our table should be good enough for you people. We should genuinely be able to send Timmy Mallet to that show and expect a winners medal. So of course we will be annoyed with last place.
