Well if people are still wondering, it's supposed to be a prequel to Sonic 1 so I'd say it makes sense that people refer to him as the Blue Blur and that there was no proper plot to it.
I admit with Knuckles's hands and I have to say they did change a lot of the story around(Such as Knuckles not being in his own island) but honestly, I'm rather impressed. I was expecting a lot less from the film since the Megaman Fan Film wasn't that great but yeah. So cheers for them.

I guess my main concern is that they spent 2 years in making this film only to put out a 18 minute movie with a cliffhanger in the end.

It was supposed to be released by the end of 2011(like my title said it...) but they took an extra year instead. 18 minutes is rather a let down compared to the Megaman which was more then 60 minutes long(I think, I don't remember). I was at least expecting 30 minutes since it was a short film but yeah.

Overall, good for a low budge film but could have been longer.

Then why are there Egg Carriers, E-100 Robots, G.U.N., and Knuckles (of all things) appearing in the fan film?

Again, they changed a lot of things around. I mean, those E-100 robots could have been the prototypes for the E-100 series. The same goes with those Egg Carriers but what do I know? I know that the movie tried to bring in a lot of cameos without making it too horrible and there were all the necessary things like Buzzbombers and Motobugs.
If you think about it, being a prequel would explain why Nobody(including Eggman) knew who Sonic was until he introduced himself to the Gun Units and why at the end of the film, Sonic ran into Green Hill Zone(boy how goofy did THAT place look? XD ).

But mind you, I can already hear the Sonic fan boys screaming, "Oh if this was a Prequel to Sonic 1, why is Sonic designed from his modern counterpart? RUINED FOREVER!!!!" XD

But c'mon people, I think it was a great film and Sega should learn from those guys and make a Sonic film instead of selling him to other companies to put him as cameos (*cough* Disney *cough*). Perhaps they should tell Sega VE studios to make another Sonic CGI short film. Night of the werehog was rather neat.

I don't know whether I am being too lenient on this film, I certainly enjoyed it.
But there was no real plot as a Sonic 1 prequel (a little too episodic for a wide audience's taste), I feel that it was more of an alternative retelling of Sonic's story, a nice blend of modern and classic Sonic, but a prequel? It doesn't fit at all.
I thought the cameos were great but I have no idea why Doug Walker was in there. I never really identified him as liking Sonic, more or less one of those internet celebrities that make those type of popular-websites-who-put-Sonic-in-only-as-a-token-character-but-slagging-off-his-modern-games-just-because-its-cool-to-do-so, hell they could have shoved Ian Hecox and Anthony Padilla into it and it would have made just as much sense. But I was actually impressed by his acting skills, I have never seen the guy act in a serious tone before, but he did well. I did like the James Rolfe cameo but I find that James isn't a brilliant actor.
As for Jaleel, his voice has aged a lot but there's no emotion to it. He didn't really feel like he cared about the character, more of 'I'm here, I'm voicing Sonic again and I'm done' attitude, that would not get you any A*s in a Drama exam.
As for the CGI and camerawork they were quite stingy on different camera techniques (putting my media student cap on here) but the use of handheld was a nice touch in some places. I don't know about you but the CGI was quite good for the budget and without running into clashes with SEGA over using models, in fact the fuzzyness of Sonic's quills made him seem more realistic, I mean he seems like an untidy character (to me anyway) so his spines would probably be like that.
I just felt I couldn't give a one line response to this as that would not be fair to the makers of this film, they made a good effort on this film. I especially hate it as people are comparing it to a Micheal Bay movie just because Sonic isn't there all the time, but it doesn't at all stray from the original plot of Sonic to something you could easily see in a chick flick, does it?
Am back for now:P

Hi. I'm here with no pre-conceptions about the movie, and no expectations of how the movie was going to turn out. The following is my frank, honest, and brutal assessment of the worst 18 minutes I've lived since the day I opened Devil May Cry 2 and thought "this is going to be great!"...

Let's start from the top - the star of the show. Given star billing from pretty much everybody, and eagerly awaited: Jaleel White, former voice of Sonic from back in the day. Unfortunately, "the day" is where he should have been left, as he's just no good anymore. His Sonic voice, once youthful with a cocky edge, now sounds like a 20-a-day smoker trying to relive his best days. Croaky and awful to listen to, I was glad that Sonic has, on total, about 6 lines of full dialogue. A soundalike would've been a better choice here.

The plot...oh dear God the plot. Robotnik decides to pretty much nuke South Island for no reason whatsoever, and then declares robotic rule on Mobius. Mankind, obviously, does fuck all. E-100 robots have no problem with shooting G.U.N. soldiers (though I have no idea what with, as humans now have an aversion to bleeding), wanting to find BlueBlur, this mystical thing that we haven't been given an introduction to yet. We're told that Doc Ock, I mean Robotnik (more on this later), used to be Kin-tober (again, more on this later), and pretty much decided to change because FUCK YEAH ROBOTS. So far, two origin stories completely buggered.

Sonic eventually turns up in full blown ADHD mode, telling us all about how he's going to "tell us how this happened, and how he's going to get it back", fulfilling neither of these promises as he decides instead to hit on a G.U.N. soldier (sorry Elise), leg it after a Buzzbomber and ride a Motobug, before riding a missile and then another Buzzbomber, all the while spouting shit about how cool this all is. He then finds Green Hill Zone, which is apparently just two loops and a walkway bit, while Fingers looks on, says something that's meant to be all "ooo, cliffhanger"-y, and then done. Oh, and Doc Ocknik finds a Chaos Emerald. Well Done You!

So yeah, the plot's quite the steaming pile. "But you'd expect that", you cry. "This isn't Hollywood". Well, nor was Titanic 2, yet that was at least watchable. Carrying on with the review - sound effects. Every film kinda needs them, and SONIC kinda has them, in that sometimes it does, but most of the times it doesn't.

Point in question: If you can ever bring yourself to watch SONIC a second time, count how many times you can hear Sonic jump. Or spin dash. It's about 2-3 times, which considering how many times he actually jumps/spin dashes, is nowhere near enough. You don't even have to budget for this, there's plenty of fucking games where he jumps and spin dashes! LAZINESS AHOY, PEOPLE! We'll also ignore the whole "animals are in Badniks" thing, because Sonic does. No animals jump out of the Buzzbombers or Motobugs, which means that they clearly die when Sonic hits them. If this is "supposed" to be a prequel to Sonic 1, G.U.N/Fingers/E-100s/Egg Carriers aside, then the Badniks are "supposed" to have animals in them. No wonder Ocknik wants Sonic dead, he's committing acts of mass genocide!

Speaking of Ocknik - The actor portraying him wasn't bad, but he did have a bit of the Alfred Molinas about him, hence my constant references to Dr. Octopus from Spider-Man 2. He also can't seem to remember what the process of turning organic things robotic is called, as in one instance it's "robotization" (correct), while in another it's "roboticization" (well...). People can't also seem to figure out that Kintobor should be pronounced Kinto-bore, not Kin-tober. I've never seen a word end in -bor that's pronounced as -ber. Shit, shit shit.

I really could carry on...in fact I will. The CGI looks pretty neat when there's nothing real world around it, as no real effort's been made to make it look like Sonic & co are in this world. B-movie or not, fan movie or not, if something explodes against a tree, the tree should at least have some burn marks, if not stay on fire. If you want an E-100 robot to grab a G.U.N. soldier, at least make it look like the robot is holding the robot, not hovering his hand about 2cm away from the shoulder like he's been friend zoned. But yeah, sky shots with CGI in? Not bad.

Knuckles. Fingers. Say no more, plenty of people have said enough already.

Sonic having hair as well as quills. It's sort of like when you remember something like this, but then somebody tells you it actually should look like this. Sonic's "hair" has always been his quills, he doesn't need more. The whole "mouth in the centre of his head" thing, I'm OK with. Yes, it looks weird, but it doesn't harm us humans much, does it? Everything else - shit.

Music? Quite enjoyable, but doesn't fit the tone of anything Sonic at all (for the record, we will be adding this to RS. Somebody's bound to ask).

I watched SONIC last night, and thought it was bloody terrible. Then I found out it'd been in development for 2 years. That makes most of these errors nigh on inexcusable. If it's a first dabble with CGI, fair enough. If it isn't...wow. Mr Lebron isn't exactly covering himself in glory. Most of the film's budget must have been spent on Jaleel, as it clearly didn't go on anything else.

Thing is - it's actually a shame. Had Sonic looked...well, more like Sonic (and Fingers more like Knuckles), and had the whole real word scenario been entirely removed, and had Jaleel White not been hired, this could have been half decent. Yes, the plot would've still been shit, but that hasn't stopped the games from being enjoyable. A CGI-only Sonic film is the only one that should ever be made because, oddly enough, it keeps things believable.

That said, would I trust Eddie Lebron to make one? Fuck no. If SONIC 2 ever enters production, I'm staying as far away from it as possible, cradling my copy of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2006) and chanting "all is forgiven".

But was it better than that other controversial film of our time 'The innocence of muslims'?

I've not actually watched that one, so I couldn't comment.
