Who is this "Us" you refer to? Not everyone here is an old-school sonic fan; there's a new generation that grew up with Sonic Adventure onwards. Heck, not everyone here is even a Sonic fan; this is a SEGA fan site after all, not a Sonic fan site.

Not everyone here is a SEGA fan.
Anyway, the comments Shockerbey is on about are from an interview with Eurogamer, where it's stated that Sonic 4 is for the hardcore Sonic fans who preferred the 2D games, and Sonic Colours is for the younger audiences who may have experienced Sonic for the first time with Unleashed.

He was posting on a Sonic thread though Kaito which tends to be commented on by Sonic fans.

Well, I'm not exactly a younger fan, and I was introduced to Sonic with Heroes, not Unleashed. I still want Colors though.
I also want Sonic 4. Instant buy from me. The classics aren't my favorites, but they are fun, so I think 4 will be a blast. Combination of new and old.

Well there may be something to it, the daytime stages of Unleashed were epic and anything that takes that formula and runs with it, regardless of what it's aimed at, is all right with me. Plus, hamburger zones?! The game looks so happy and colourful

Well the games producer said Colours was aimed at kids and not the core gamer meaning people like me wont like it but from what i played at SoS10 i loved it.
Back on topic Sonic 4 does seem to pay homeage to the old games quite well with old school gameplay with new stuff that rather then bog down the old seems to go well hand in hand with the old.

I'm sure hardcore gamers don't even know what they want half the time
"Bah, I hate sequels, make unique games!"
"SEEEEGAAAA make Shenmue 3, and JSR 3, and SoA2, and and and and etc"
"Bawwww there are too many FPS', make some original games!"
Original games sell like poopcakes.
"SEEEEGAAAA you guys suck, stop making 3D Sonic games and make a 2D one!"
"Baaawwww SEEEGGGAAA you guys suck, stop copying from Green Hill Zone!"
Edit: Might have gone a bit off topic there, lulz.

Good thing I still have a kid inside me! Guess I will like the game too although I'm an oldie.
