Nice review, I like most of the games on there. I find Gain ground, Ecco and Space harrier hard to get into now. They just don't grip me like a did but Altered beast is a guilty pleasure for me. I enjoy blitzin through it now and again.

I'm a sucker for any of the Golden Axe games. Also, not being the world's best gamer, I like games that don't have too complicated a battle system!

Yea but there's a difference between simple like Final Fight or Streets of Rage and Golden Axe which just locks you into position while you bonk dudes on the head.

Golden Axe was kind of hard. It freaked me out. That's why I prefer Streets of Rage.

Na, It freaked me out when I tried to ride on the beast and from nowhere the enemy storms at you and knocks you out. Not that but the enemies also became annoying when they became more than 3 or 4.

Golden Axe hasn't aged at all well. The sequels have, but the first one is just abysmal in this day and age.
It's a bit of a shame Altered Beast was only a one-off until the bastardised PS2 version came along. An interesting concept that could've been something really special had the actual gameplay been improved.

True. Some of the music tracks are immortal, though.

Wasn't there a GBA game too? Not sure it actually has any connections to the terrible classic, but I do recall seeing something called Altered Beast while going through some GBA games in the local gamestores a few years back.

Oh yeah, there was a GBA game, the soundtrack of which I've been trying to hunt down for RS' sake. But, the gameplay was exactly the same. The graphics looked a little better, and there were more transformations, but for the most part, it hadn't been changed since the original.
