Ehhh, it's easy to bash American Football or write it off like that, but it's actually not too bad.

Yeah I like the game of American football as a tactical and physical spectacle, it's just the way it's presented with all the NFL commercialism that makes it seem a bit naff. The actual sport is pretty deep, I wish they didn't have the wage cap so you could see some really good teams develop over the years.

No-one in the UK says "Candy" in normal conversation. No-one.
Candy Floss.
But yea, American Football is a pretty great sport but watching is such a nightmare because its like 90% adverts. Though, watching the Superbowl on BBC is somewhat amusing when they're trying desperately to fill in all the advert time.

This sort of conversation always confuses me. As far as I know football is an old (pre-USA) European sport which is called football because you play it with your feet. So why is the softer American version of rugby (softer compared to the UK/Aussie variant where you don't wear a full body armour) called football?
or maybe I'm just an ignorant European?

Rugby's full name is Rugby Football. They're all football, but unlike Rugby people can't just call it American.
