Hmmm, if they are releasing Radiant Silvergun on live I guess I ought to sell my ST-V copy of it. Then again it has the retarded two button, three weapon EU/US mode complete with gibberish Engrish text.

Galaga, first off. I should really play that again.

Then the SHMUP genre struck me again, with Einhänder and RayStorm. I loved these games to death, and they were my real initiation into the genre.

Most recently, however, I've been stuck to the Touhou Project, as a few others have mentioned.

Definitely Love Shmups, One I don't think gets enough widespread recognition (as far as I'm aware) is Steel Empire/Empire of Steel. It includes my favorite Shmup mechanic, choice between left and right shooting. It's gotten a few remakes and re-releases over the years but I still love the Genesis/Mega Drive version the best. Another Genesis Shmup I can't get enough of (and my song requests reflect this) is battle mania daiginjou, this is the Japanese exclusive sequel to the game Trouble Shooter. When I first discovered this game I was blown away by the tightness of its gameplay. The enemy patterns are a lot of fun and keep it quite varied, not to mention the game has a great anime style theme and excellent music/graphics. (screenshot below

If any of you haven't checked these out and are a fan of this genre, definitely do so. If you have played these, any favorite moments?

Shamless plug, but I wrote an article on Empire of Steel on this very site!

I'd say my favourite shooters were Thunder Force IV and MUSHA. Both very fun games with killer soundtracks. Not nearly as good but still quite fun was a Mega Drive title named Whip Rush. Nothing all that special, but I did dig the first stage theme:

Ooh, didn't see that will give it a read.

Another Shmup I wanted to mention was Curse, it was released early in the Mega Drive's life in Japan. Has a rough framerate but is a really cool little gem.

Oh and yes Whip Rush has some great tunes

No love for Gynoug/Wings of Wor? Shocked i didn't post this in here all those years ago! The soundtrack alone makes it one of my favourite MD games.
