What would it be? Or rather, what retro console do you want the most that you don't currently have?
I could name a few but at the moment the ones I want the most are the 2600 and a Neo Geo Pocket Color. IMO the NGPC trumped the Gameboy Color as far as the quality of the games go. Not counting a few gems on the GBC like Wario Land of course. And the 2600 for nostalgia and because I like the simplicity of being able to pick a game up and play it for just a minute or 30 minutes without worrying about storylines and all that stuff. As far as which specific models I want, I really don't know. Since it's backwards compatible I wouldn't mind a 7800 either.
Couple runners up are the Turbografx-16 and Neo Geo CD or CDZ. I would say Neo Geo AES but those things are WAAAAAAY too costly.
If you could have any console..

I'm going for the PCE as well, a ton of awesome games, despite the console simple architecture

Nomad is definitely pretty neat but it's a serious sunuvabitch on batteries just like the Game Gear. Probably even moreso than the game gear.
Also glad to see some NEC fans.

That's what rechargeable batteries are for!
I once saw a Nomad in a local game shop for £99. Next to it was a copy of the super rare Panzer Dragoon Saga, also £99. I think God was mocking me that day.
If not a Nomad, my next choice would be to get another Mega Drive with the Mega CD and 32X. This one isn't so hard to do, though! Although I wouldn't mind a Japanese Saturn for all my lovely Japanese games I can't play without emulation.
