In a game where the sidekick is the star, there can only be 2 things: either the game will be fun and the sidekick will get more appreciated, or the game will suck and be an absolute mess. So where can this game lead us? Let’s find out.

Game: Secret Agent Clank / Clank & Ratchet: Mission Ignition
Systems: PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2
Release Dates: PSP: 6/17/08 (NA), 7/11/08 (EU), 7/17/08 (AUS) 11/20/08 (JP)
PS2: 5/26/09 (NA), 6/19/09 (EU), June 09 (AUS)
Developers: Insomniac Games

Clank, Secret Agent Clank
Story: (As the title suggests, yes, this is a spin off game.)
As Clank is looking for the priceless jewel “The Eye of Infinity”, he sees Ratchet fleeing from the scene of the crime and getting arrested. Clank couldn’t believe what he is seeing in front of his very eyes, his best friend getting arrested. He’s convinced that Ratchet is innocent and decides to investigate the crime, leading him into an evil scheme involving little creatures known as the “Kingpins”.

Action, Adventure and God-Awful Gameplay
Gameplay: Since this is the first time you don’t get to play as Ratchet over the main course of the game, things are a little different. For starters, Clank now plays a little like Ratchet. And the fact that Clank is a lot smaller than Ratchet, means that he will be a little slow. Not to mention the controls are a little stiff. And the weapons even aren’t that great, they’re a lot like the James Bond weapons (well, this game IS a little bit like a James Bond movie/game since it’s a parody of it.) But they’re not interesting.
At some point in the game, I think you get to play as Ratchet and Captain Qwark but I haven’t even made it there so I won’t cover those parts.

How Well Does a Port of a Handheld Game Hold Up on a Console?
Graphics: The graphics here aren’t that great either, considering it’s the last Ratchet & Clank game for the PS2 and it’s a port of a PSP game. I’m sure it looked better on a PSP. But here, it’s just eh.

Spy Music, What Did You Expect?
Music: Since the game is spy themed, here you can expect spy-esque music. It’s pretty good, but not memorable at all.

Mission: Failure?
Overall: Secret Agent Clank for the PS2 is not that great of a game. With it’s boring and repetitive gameplay, lacking graphics and music, I didn’t enjoy this game. On the outside it looks cool but on the inside, not so much. I’m sure the PSP version was better.

This is more of a first impressions than an actual review if you haven't finshed it. You do get to play.as ratchet in gladiator type statges and qwark in over exaggerated opera type stages.
