After the failure of Angel of Darkness, Lara Croft comes back from the dead in an all new adventure! And boy did she come back in style!
Game: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider: Legend
Systems: PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Windows, Nintendo DS, GameCube, PlayStation Portable, Gameboy Advance
Release Dates: 6/7/06
Developers: Crystal Dynamics
The Legend Has Returned
Story: In the opening cutscene, a young Lara Croft and her mother are on an airplane to the Himalayas when the plane suddenly crashes in a violent storm. The two manage to survive and take shelter in an ancient Buddhist temple where Lara finds a sword in the stone. Afraid of what might happen, Lara’s mother takes the sword and suddenly disappears, leaving little Lara all alone.
Now as an adult, Lara is looking for the sword pieces around the world in order to get her mother back as well as figure out what happened to an old friend of hers, Amanda.
Goodbye Stiff Controls, Hello Fluid Controls!
Gameplay: Say goodbye to the stiffness of the previous games and give a welcoming round of applause for the new controls!
The game is still a 3rd person action platformer with shooting in the mix. Instead of controlling like a tank, Lara can now move in what ever direction she pleases. Her jumps and rolls are very smooth. She also has some new gear such as a grappling hook which can be used to swing from place to place or move heavy objects around.
And the combat has improved tremendously. Lara can now lock on to a target whenever and wherever when an enemy is nearby. It’s much easier to take out enemies than ever before. It’s much better than the previous games.
Smooth, Smooth, Smooth
Graphics: The graphics are pretty good. Lara’s model looks amazing and beautiful. Everyone looks a little realistic. The environments are beautiful.
Epic
Music: It’s really great. From the party themes of Japan to the main theme song. OH MAN, the theme song. It is an over the top epic battle soundtrack. It’s pure ear candy.
Music is composed by Troels Brun Folmann.
Has the Legend Returned for Good?
Overall: Tomb Raider: Legend is a fantastic game. With it’s improved gameplay and visuals, it’s a beautiful game. The only thing it lacks is the length of the game. It’s a pretty short game and will have you wanting more. But all in all, Lara Croft has returned!
