Why do most Japanese game & anime soundtracks have music-themed album art?

What I mean is like the cover art would show the characters with headphones or instruments!

Is this done to remind people that this is a soundtrack or something?

YES WE GET IT IT'S A FREAKING SOUNDTRACK PLEASE STOP REMINDING US!

We're not idiots we can tell the difference between a CD & a DVD or whatever without needing to be reminded!

It's done because:

  • It would be boring to have the same cover.
  • It's easier to separate them/more difficult to confuse them.
  • It's neat while giving a nice feeling to it.
  • They can do cool things like having a character be a DJ.

Unless you have something like Project Diva in mind. In that case, then I think it is pretty self explanatory.

You seem unnecessarily upset about this.

What would you rather see instead?
