Here's the recap, track list and download links for this week's episode of RadioSEGA's Top 40 Countdown.
5. Sonic Generations“Generations is in my top 5 due to the massive nostalgic feeling it gave me when first watching the trailers for the game and, of course, playing the game itself. Playing the classic & modern stages of Green Hill, Chemical Plant & Sky Sanctuary was simply amazing and seeing the other stages having there own 2D levels as well was brilliant and they were beautifully made too. The other reason I like this game so much is because of the soundtrack, as soon as I got it I uploaded it to my iPod straight away and was consistently listening to it non-stop, it was, for me, an addicting soundtrack.”
4. Daytona USA“This game gave me fond memories during my childhood. The first time I played this was when I was with my dad at a shopping center, we were just walking around when we notice these two big arcade machines and a massive line of people wanting to have a go at said arcade machines. Me and my dad asked what was the game that everyone was lining up for to which someone replied, "It's this new racing game called Daytona USA, you play as a NASCAR driver, their letting you have a race for free". So being that my dad is absolutely car crazy and I was absolutely video game crazy, we decided to hop in the line and have a go at this (back in the day) new SEGA arcade racer, and this is one of a few great childhood moments that I will always remember, having a good old race against my dad on Daytona USA.”
3. The House of the Dead 2“Again this is another arcade game that gave me fond childhood memories. Back in the day in Southampton there use to be an arcade in the (use to be) main shopping mall in the city center called "SEGA Park", this would be the place I would always go to during my childhood & teenage years as well. One of the games I always use to play there was The House of the Dead 2, my grandmother would always take me to SEGA Park during a day out to Southampton, I would be given 5 £1 coins to play on any games I wanted throughout the arcade, and I would immediately play HotD2. She would always wonder why I would play a shoot'em up zombie game but after the first time playing the game, every time I went back to that arcade I just kept wanting to play HotD2 more & more. Also GOLDMAN!”
2. Sonic The Hedgehog 2“This was the first ever SEGA game I played in my life! I was round a friends house during his 5th birthday back in 1996 when I saw this console...what was it called again?...Ah yes! The SEGA Mega Drive! There on the top of his Mega Drive was a cartridge called "Sonic The Hedgehog 2". I'd never heard of Sonic before and was really fascinated by the artwork on the cartridge, "A blue hedgehog with red shoes, and a two tailed fox? This must be interesting" I thought to myself. After playing two player with my friend he got a phone call and had to leave the room, which left me with the Mega-Drive & Sonic 2. Being a dumb kid back in the day I tried to play the 2 player mode with both controllers, which as you would expect, doesn't work when you try to play it by yourself, so I decided to give the single player mode a go, and after completing Emerald Hill & Chemical Plant Zone I was totally hooked on the game. It was the greatest game I ever played when I was growing up in the 90's! I unfortunately had to leave my friends house just as I was about to face the Metropolis Zone boss as my mum came over to pick me up, which was a sad time for my 5 year old self. But I still hold that memory close to me as well, playing Sonic for the first time growing up.”
1. Sonic Adventure“This game is the sole reason I have love for both Sonic & SEGA. I never owned a Dreamcast personally but I always got to borrow a friends console who had Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2. Even though I did enjoy playing SA2 a lot, it was Sonic Adventure I would always keep on playing, even when I completed the game I would delete my game data and play through it again & again & again. When I heard SA was out on the Gamecube in the early naughties I felt like I was the happiest teenager in the whole world! I immediately got the game and every game I had in my collection was pushed aside, and I just played Sonic Adventure over & over again. My completion count for SA is I believe: 10/15 timesAnd it still is, today, the best Sonic, SEGA & all around video game I've ever played in my whole life.”
