SEGATHON 2 Cancelled - Information Inside

It's with a mixture of regret, disappointment, sadness and, mostly, anger that I have to write the following blog post.

If you follow RadioSEGA on Twitter, you will have found out earlier today that, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had no choice but to cancel the upcoming SEGATHON 2 event, which was due to raise money for BBC's Children in Need appeal.

The reason for this is quite simple, but nonetheless something which has angered me greatly: I've been pretty much ordered in to work during the day of Saturday 3rd November, and cannot be guaranteed 100% that I wouldn't be working the Sunday either. It's not the first time this has happened, and it isn't the first time I've advised my management that, if they wanted me to work a Saturday/Sunday, to check if I had any prior plans. It also isn't the first time they have ignored me. This, however, isn't a place where I'm prepared to discuss that further.

Last year's event took a lot out of me. It pretty much destroyed any sleep patterns I had, and I'd taken that on board to ensure that I was ready for it this year. Unfortunately, I'm not prepared to wake up at 7:30am, to work 8 hours on what is the busiest day of the week, to then come home and have 4 or 5 hours to wind down, before then going on to do a 24 hour livestream. It's not the greatest preparation.

I would imagine a lot of you are wondering why I've just cancelled the event outright, and haven't just moved it to another date. This, again, is quite simple: There just isn't anywhere to move it to. I can't bring it forwards, as I'm not only working the Saturday prior, but I've already got plans for the rest of this month. Similarly, I can't push it back either, as I'm busy the weekend after, and if we were to move the weekend after that, we will have actually missed Children in Need itself which, when one of my aims for this year was to actually get promoted via Children in Need, isn't all too helpful.

Believe me, whilst I'm sure you're all very disappointed, I am sure that nobody is more disappointed than I am. I was planning to get in touch with SEGA's Community Team this week to see what support they would be willing to offer, and had already agreed to a very generous prize donation from Tall-Guy 91, which was going to be 3 copies of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, irrespective of region and format. A truly fantastic prize, I'm sure you'd agree.

Ultimately, whilst SEGATHON 2 has been cancelled now, I am looking into possibly holding one in the new year in support of another charity, but I'll prepare more news on that as and when I can get something nailed down. I don't want to set another date, only to then have to cancel it for the exact same reason.

All I can say is this: I'm really, really sorry.
