Saturday Night SEGA

Thank You

As Saturday Night SEGA comes to a close, I want to look back on 16 years of history.

Hi. It's been a while. I probably should have used this more often but I'm not on top of things as I want, or even claim, to be.

Anyway, as you're probably aware by now thanks to Twinny's excellent social media posts, Saturday Night SEGA has now ended its run as a weekly show. "WHY?" I hear you ask. Well, the short answer is I did it for me. The slightly longer answer is that I wanted some more time with my family as I'm becoming increasingly aware that Alexis is getting older and I don't want to regret anything in 10 years time when she's moved onto the next stage of her life.

Before I get into the crux of this post, though, which is the thanks, I want to clear a few things up:

- I'm not going anywhere. RadioSEGA has been a part of my Internet life for a good 18 years or so and I'm quite attached to the place. I've got some ideas regarding new features for the website that I'm excited to develop, and hopefully you'll start seeing those soon.

- Saturday Night SEGA is still here, but it will look a little different. As you'll see on the Shows page, from now on it will only be around as a Special show, with the odd episode here or there. There's a couple of DJ Mixes that I'd like to do over the Summer, and then I'll always be open to come back for a one-off for things like WinterFest, if time allows. I've tried fully walking away before and it didn't stick, so I'm being more open and honest about that this time around. SNS will never return as a weekly show, but I'm not leaving it behind, either.

I'd like to thank everybody who I've worked alongside at RadioSEGA since 2010, but special mentions go to Mark, who brought me onboard when we first started discussing RadioSEGA LiVE, and Viper, who allowed me to come back after I got cold feet from my second attempt at leaving. Twinny has been absolutely excellent in getting social posts queued up for every show we produce - that's a job that I don't think gets praised enough in written word, so here it is.

It's also been an absolute honour for my little show (about absolutely nothing but SEGA music on a Saturday night, which was exactly how it was pitched) to have rubbed shoulders with some great shows like ResidentSD's SEGA AGES & Late & Live (foreversonic did very well with a second season of SEGA AGES too), Rexy's SEGA Mixer Drive, Skyblaze's The Hidden Palace, and Radio Redux. A very special mention to Kev and the RR crew as they saw something of value in what we were doing in our early days and pitched the idea to cross-broadcast with SEGASonic Radio. I've always been quite proud of that. I don't want to do a disservice to other shows either like Tru's Sword of SEGA, Rav's Ravsdom!, KC's Manic Monday Show, and Viper's own duo of Topical Resort and more recently Pick n' Mix - there's been so many shows over the years I can't claim to remember them all, but there's some cracking ones still kicking around. On that note, premature congratulations to Rexy who will, I believe, soon overtake me on episode count with SMD - I'll still be the longest running for the next couple of years though!

I also want to thank Mena and Alexis - they've been my rocks through quite a few difficult years, and I owe a lot to them.

Saturday Night SEGA has been a lot of fun - and I mean a LOT - and I'm sad it's over, but I'm also happy that it's the right decision. Before I go, I have one final thank you, and that's for all the listeners. I've said this a lot on air over the years but the show would not have run for as long as it did if people didn't tune in. You've been its beating heart for so long, and I'll always be delighted that so many of you took it into your own.

It's been a blast chatting with you all, and I hope to still see some of you in Discord. Thank you for everything, and I'll see you down the road.

GAME OVER, YEAH!
