More 360 RPGs TBA?
Microsoft is holding an event in Japan next week called the Xbox 360 RPG Premiere 2008. It's happening June 10 (Tuesday) with the "RPG Title Announcement Media Event" going from 4:00-5:15. That's Japanese time, which is 16 hours ahead (I think) of California, so that should put the timing at about midnight on Monday evening here.

I'm told the announcements are intended for the Japanese audience, though I'd be very surprised if any of those games didn't make it to the States eventually. Along with a new announcement or two, we'll probably get an update on some RPGs we already know are on the way. Perhaps we'll even find out what Mistwalker is working on next. Anoop, IGN's Japanese correspondent, is planning on attending the event so we should find out what's going on as soon as he knows.

It's been a while since I've written one of these types of blogs. But yeah, I'm off to Japan for over a week to do that thing I do. What am I going to see? Well, the only thing I can disclose right now is that Microsoft is having a press conference in Shibuya next Tuesday, to show off its line-up of role-playing games. Yeah, on Xbox 360. Go figure. At least two of those will be Last Remnant and Infinite Undiscovery, but they apparently have some surprises up their sleeve. But that's only on Tuesday. I have meetings from Monday straight through to the following weekend, and those meetings are top-secret. I will say that all of these visits will benefit you, the reader, in both Electronic Gaming Monthly and on 1UP.

I reckon we'll hear Star Ocean 4 is a 360 exclusive, a new Mistwalker game to go along with Cry On.

Thoughts?

Are Tri-ace developing Star Ocean 4? If so does the 360 need another Tri-ace game they've never really been that great.

I hope they show off some more of Tales of Vesperia.

Tri-Ace are usually the devs of Star Ocean so would make sense as they have 360 experience.

Have? Have they finished development for Infinite Undiscovery?

Well they are in bug fixing now so I'd say that is experience.;)

Ok...I can't hold this anymore... Shame they have no experience in making enjoyable combat gameplay.

Not a fan of the Star Ocean series? I have been for awhile. End of Time was IMO great on PS2. But I can see why some don't like it.

Well when I figured the combat out on Star Ocean and Star Ocean 2 it was alot more fun, the biggest problem is how unscifi it is. It's like "OK here we are on this big spaceship!" *plot stuff happen* "crap now I'm on this generic fantasy world that's undeveloped oh well gonna have to use a sword". Star Ocean 3 had terrible combat, I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, I get the long and short range special attacks, but I have no idea what I'm doing to activate them. The graphics were pretty dated for its time and non of the characters managed to display any sort of emotion.

Also Tales of Phantasia on the SNES is almost unplayable in comparison to all the games after it.

Star Ocean 2 was a great game and had a nice feel to it. Never played the first one and the third was just a major disapointment to say the least.

I was always interested in the third one, actually.

I have a feeling that we're gonna hear a Final Fantasy announcement of some kind. It's going to have to be a big franchise game for Microsoft to have kept quiet for all this time, else they would've told us already, or they would've held out til E3.

So yeah, I think it's a big, well established RPG franchise, like a FF or a Dragon Quest, or maybe even something that Microsoft have developed into a franchise, so...Blue Dragon 2?

FF maybe, DQ unlikely they haven't even finished DQIX yet they probably shouldn't announce another game.

To avoid a double post:

Square Enix has listed a load of release dates at the Xbox 360 RPG Premiere event in Tokyo.

Star Ocean 4, or as it's officially titled Star Ocean: The Last Hope, will be released for Xbox 360 in 2009. There's been no mention of when, or indeed whether, it will turn up on other platforms.

Next up is Infinite Discovery, confirmed as a 360 exclusive and down for a European release on 5th September. The US will get it three days earlier while Japan will have to wait, for once. But not for long, as the game's out there on September 11th.

And finally there's Last Remnant. The game's in development for PS3 and Xbox 360, but will be released for Microsoft's console first. The 360 version is down for a global release this winter, with no word on how long PS3 owners will have to wait.
