Do NOT update your Wii if you use Datel's Freeloader as this will not work after the update. I've always loved Nintendo but they're really starting to fuck me off! (don't turn this into an 'I hate Nintendo thread).

I sacrificed my Wii for this! But i'll just buy a US Wii, they're cheaper anyway.

Haha, really? They can't like Freeloader then. They probably see it as a workaround hack to beat their own copy protection scheme.

No company likes import games for some petit reason. Sony had lik sang shut down, and now this. Does anyone know why? I'd like to know, they're getting money from somewhere at least.
Oh dear. Now I'm happy I don't get my WiFi to work
I'm sure nintendo will put system updates on wii games to get round this.
W-wow, that does seem very harsh...I know the 360 bans modded consoles..
Maybe if you contacted support? I'm sure there would be a way to get it working..
Hoo boy, glad I never got one, not that I really needed one.
Still they're not as bad as Sony, I'll start complaining when Play-Asia says it can't deliver DS games to Europe.

Oh crap, I updated mine last night before I saw this... I'll test it when I get home but I'm sure Datel will release a work around anyway. If worse comes to it I'll just get my console modded. I've done it with others.
Oh it also stops the Twilight Hack from working if you have that, but if you've already installed the Homebrew Channel then everything should be fine.

Heh. Well, for some reason, they still regionlock games, although they wouldn't have to. I guess if I made that whole crap of regionlocking games, I wouldn't be happy for someone to undo that arealocking. I can understand Nintendo, but I'm a bit surprised it was THAT fast. 3 months after release of the FL.

Did Nintendo make it clear that using a freeloader was bad, and that they would lock your console?
Far as I can remember there's always been freeloaders hanging around Game shelves, I had one for the Gamecube to play Animal Crossing. It seems strange they'd lock them out and not say anything, a lot of people probably see a freeloader as an easier way to play other games, without the risk of modding, ironic =]
Nintendo have always been against importing, admittedly not as much as Sony. The Gamecube never got any updates, I'm sure if it was online Nintendo would have worked a fix to block the original aswell.

Yeah, I used to love Lik Sang :( I got ickle gashapon gameboys from there
*cough* but I'm sure they're aware freeloaders sell, so it would seem fair to at least warn the owners, or potential buyers to not use them

I never have much luck with consoles. That's why my game margin is very little and why I modded my Saturn and Dreamcast. I plan to do my Mega Drive soon though. This new freeloader thing will stop me playing half my Wii games though :(.

That totally sucks...
The reason I fell in love with the DS was because of the complete lack of region lock, the ability to play Jump Superstars and the Deathnote games more than justified whatever price they asked for it =]
Yeah, handhelds are always region free. The only difference between the DS and the PSP is that, whilst Nintendo frown on people importing games, they actually understand the fact that they still get paid if you happen to import the game, because the retailer you bought it from had to get it from somewhere.
Sony, on the other hand, would prefer you to wait a gazillion years, even if the game in question is never, ever going to come out in your territory. The way they see it: If it's not meant to come out in Europe, then European gamers shouldn't be playing it.

Yet the PS3 is region free? I know what you are saying but if the game companies get the profit still what is the problem?

I imagine the company involved in publishing the game in the region importers aren't buying from would be pretty peeved.
If you buy the American version of say Ninja Gaiden Dragon Swords then chances are you aren't gonna pick up the European version which means Ubisoft lose out.

Oh boo hoo to them XD.
Oh boo hoo to them XD.
Then sales are effected, maybe Ubisoft decide not to release awesome games like Ninja Gaiden over here and continue with shovelware.
Sure hope Nintendo don't suddenly like Sonys idea.
I don't see Etrian Odyssey 2 coming out over here.
That said it's fine for something never coming out in this region like Jump Ultimate Stars and by the looks of it Professor fucking Layton.

Well Ubisoft published the American No More Heroes, swings in round abouts really. And as said many games don't get published at all here not to mention the time we wait. I've played, completed and now got bored of Smash Bros. all before many Europeans have played it. We shouldn't have to wait (and pay) more.

Ubisoft's involvement in NMH isn't really important here though.
I agree the wait is painful, I'm not rebuying Etrian Odyssey I've had it almost a year now and while not being very far I don't wish to start over again. I imagine the few people who cared about Etrian Odyssey (since it only really interests a small few) probably imported it ages ago and have no intention of buying it again, especially considering Etrian Odyssey 2 is out in America. Nintendo are probably gonna notice its poor sales and probably decide that it's not worth bringing the second game over.
I was thinking about maybe checking out the Homebrew stuff on Wii (emulators) so I'm in no rush to update and there's no games I'm really looking forward to so they'll have a hardtime forcing me to update. :D

I'm still annoyed at the fact I can't play any of my imports anymore. I guess the next step is a modded Wii?

The update will stop your modded Wii from working apparently, sell your PAL Wii and buy an American one.

I updated it and my PAL games still work. If Nintendo sent out the updates later than 1AM I could have seen this thread before updating it.

Your Wii is modded? Anyway i'm selling my UK Wii and getting an American one, will only take 3 or 4 games to make the difference.
Edit: I meant modded Wii's might stop working, I see where the confusion was.

Oh right, well maybe Datel will release something to combat this. They always seem to have something.

Damn the PAL region sucks ass! We're always treated like crap.
Yet the European market is the most important in the industry.
I must admit, it's only really Nintendo who can't get their heads around how to release games over here. Sony have a totally fucked up view on the whole importing issue, but on the whole they don't leave us hanging around for years for games. Microsoft are even better than this, as they seemingly force developers to get games out on time.
Nintendo, well..they just laze about and think "eh, fuck it, people will keep waiting for it. They've got no other choices, right?"
Sorry for my ignorance, but if i live in America, buyed an american Wii, and always have buyed americans games, and to Wi-Fi i use the Wi-Fi USB connector, does that of what you are talking about will affect me?
It's not sarcasmim, but it's because i don't really egt what's going on?!?!
No, it shouldn't do. It'll stop you buying European or Japanese games and playing those, though.
You shouldn't have anything to worry about :)
Unless you used the Twilight Princess hack to access homebrew stuff, then this update will screw you over.
Well, thanks SEGA for these good news!!! (Thanks Gavvie)
I feel sorry for you, all of you people who had buyed other games or systems that are not regional, sorry, but that's all i can do, i would liked to get get "Kirby Power Paintbrush" instead of "Kirby Canvas Curse" or to play the japanese NiGHTS Journey Of Dreams, Or puyo puyo games...
But they made the games, they made the rules...sadly!
(Actually, i didn't even liked Twilight Princess, I prefer Phantom Hourglass)XD

Well, it's much but Datel said they would release a new disc if their software was cancelled out by a firmware update .

Makes you wonder why they turned a blind eye to the DS don't it?
Well, it's much but Datel said they would release a new disc if their software was cancelled out by a firmware update .
Why? Nintendo are only gonna keep on blocking it. I assume you have to buy the replacement disc? Datel must be loving this.
Makes you wonder why they turned a blind eye to the DS don't it?
Because people take their DS' on holiday with them, and would perhaps like to buy games for it whilst they're away. If you region lock the DS, then you've just closed yourself up from the tourist market, and lost some of your income.
It's always been the way with handheld consoles, they've always been region free, and that's why.
Well, it's much but Datel said they would release a new disc if their software was cancelled out by a firmware update .
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Datel would send you a new Freeloader disk to combat the update if the one you brought would not work free of charge if you sent the copy you brought back to them.
Not sure if this is true so you might want to get in touch with the company first.

I don't know about replacement discs. They did with the gamecube but they do tell you very clearly that you should not update your Wii if you use freeloader. In other words they have a disclaimer this time round whereas last time there wasn't.
Who knows though, they might give you a download to put on an SD card to get around the block.

Not sure why that is, but we're just as important as Japan sales wise (possibly more), but Americaland is the real money maker having shifted over 10.61 million units of 24.45 million worldwide (as of March 31st 2008). But still we should be given decent treatment, it's reported that we in Europe make Nintendo $79 per Wii sold in profit compared with $49 of the Americans and just $13 in Japan! That's one European Wii for every 6 Japanese Wii's, and yet the system sales are pretty close, (Japanese just ahead) and we're still getting crapped on.
