This weeks choice is from Dr Shaneman. Magical drop on the SNES. This is another game by Data east in 1995.Lets see what you think.
Magical Drop is played in a Tetris-style box; a "stack" of random colored bubbles descend from the top, and a player is defeated when a bubble hits the bottom. Bubbles can be picked up and dropped by the player's "clown" at the bottom, and are destroyed when 3 or more of the same color are put together on a single column. The game is normally played with two players (one may be a computer opponent), and chains cause the opponent's stack to descend faster. Magical Drop was also released on the Neo-Geo, Super Famicon, and GameBoy Color.
When releasing the game in the United States Data East decided to change its name to “Chain Reaction” and replace the Drops to cakes and candies and Chess Pieces, but game play remained the same. G-mode currently obtains the intellectual rights to Magical Drop
Has really nice cutesy graphics which are emphisised by the SNES's 32,000 colour pallet. I love collumns so I instantly got into the gameply on this one although it gets more difficult more quickly than collumns. The music in the game doesn't really stand out much but you wont find yourself putting on a CD to drown it out. Overall I'm quite impressed by this game I wouldn't have came accross on my own.^_^
P.S. sorry for being late to the party:blush:
Man this is certainly hard to score. I'm not very good at puzzle games and I'm not really a fan of Magical Drop sort of puzzle games (grab and place), but there's not really anything wrong with the game itself... I guess the graphics are abit bland, the music is alright abit catchy. The stages last too long, for me anyway.

I will say to you guys that the arcade versions are soo much better. Most likely because they have better graphics and sound chips but the SNES one isn't as bad as I first thought it would be. I don't play many of these types of puzzle games either as I don't know of many. I do really want to play Money Idol Exchange though :P.
I'm playing the SNES version and I have to say its pretty fun =] pretty and catchy tunes
Not my type of game, and I suck at it XD but still fun

Excuse me miss but I think this is for Retro club members only.;)
Seriously I haven't found out too much really about this. I've found A little on Data east on Wiki but not too much on this game.

Well, welcome to the party. I've edited my first post with a teeny bit more info that I found on dataeastgames.com.

I gave this A 3. Does what it does very well but I just don't have as much patience as I used to with puzzlers but thats just personal preference. Not A bad little game though.
I'll give it another go when my mate comes round.

A 3 from me. It's... well... nice. The idea is good, and I used to like Puzzle Bobble, which is the same style, a lot. But I don't really come a lot around this one. Maybe it's the choice of character I do (the cute Devil), but I doubt that. The AI is very strong, and I got beaten in the second stage already, in my second try already in the first stage. It's not particularly bad, and with some training I could get into it, but due to the fact I actually need training to get started in the first level and the lack of a tutorial explaining what every form of ball does, does take a lot. The fact one stage is very long and there are no savepoints in between eats one point, too. It would've been a 2, but the cutesy graphics, especially the demon, makes up for it with 1 point.

The SNES version of this really brings the score down...

Yeah, plus the graphics and music are better. There's 3 on MAME each with different characters. You should also check out Money Idol Exchanger.
