So I see there is not a Virtua Fighter 2 thread and I'm quite surprised about this. There has to be some AM2 fans and Virtua Fighter 2 fans as well. I first played the game a long time ago on the Saturn. I then picked up the PC version, but it only worked on Windows 95, so when I upgraded I couldn't play anymore. The PC version lived up quite well to the original.

Back in my early reviewing days on 1up I covered the game in a review, which I've now moved over to my new blog. You can check it out here (http://sunriseblvd.wordpress.com/2007/01/13/12/) if you like.

My favorite fighters were Pai Chan and Jacky Bryant because of their speed. It was easier to get a quick KO with them. Some of my favorite stages were Pai Chan and Jacky Bryant's because of the music that went along in their stages. Kage-Maru had an interesting stage as well with the wilderness surrounding and I used to think it was so cool when Kage-Maru would flip me high into the air, even if I was about to lose a bunch of health. I always sucked at fighting Dural after the credits.

I could never really get down the martial arts system to VF2, I'd mostly just mash buttons to beat the crap out of the AI's, but any human could destroy me if they were anything above a beginner. This was the first fighter series that I came to like after Street Fighter so it was a pretty big deal for me. So who else out there can remember this game? Does anyone still play it?

Is VF2 the one that was released on the genesis collecton for PSP? If so then I've played it :P sad to say anything above a basic combo and button mashing leaves me in the dust, I'm horrid at fighters >_<

I play sometimes, Lau is usually my choice of character but Jeffry and Jackie are cool to.

Technically yes, but the Mega Drive version is very different from the Arcade or Saturn versions.

This is true. If you're only playing the Mega Drive version than you are missing out on the true experience.

I've played both :) just making sure, the MD version was certainly...different...

The 16-bit game is terrible. I loved VF2. Ten foot tossing killed everyone; I had an average of something like 2 seconds per match playing as Kage. :) That Expert learning feature was innovative, too, until you realized that the computer was just going to block everything and needed to be thrown only to be beaten.

I played the master system version not long ago. That was.....speacial. It does have A full story mode though with cutscenes.

Virtua Quest for PS2 is pretty neat for having character bits in the game. The dialogue is cheesy at times, but it's a pretty fun game that just takes some time to develop.

Different? I would've used the word "shit" personally. It was clunky, slow, and pretty god damn appalling. I'm not sure why Sega thought they could get away with releasing it.

Well it bet it still turned a profit, all the incentive they need really. They're still getting mileage out of it today by packaging it in with the PS2 compilation 'n' all.

More shockingly I've heard there is even a Master System version too.

Ah, no, that one's a bit different. That one's called Virtua Fighter Animation, and was very loosely based on the first Virtua Fighter. It's also very easy, and is pretty pointless, as the cutscenes between each bout don't make sense.

VF2 is one of my favourite fighters of all time. The game is fast paced and the saturn version is nothing but impressive!! Some years ago when I really played this game a lot my favourite character was Akira Yuki.
Not the fastest one but had some impressive moves. Would also recommend the PS2 Sega Ages version. This one has full 3d backgrounds like the arcade version on all levels.

Akira is extremely powerful if you master his moves and have good timing.

Virtua Fighter 2 is a very good fighting game, but I still prefer 2D fighters.

I remember seeing VF2 on a Saturn in Toys R Us and I was stunned. I couldn't believe that my fav 3D beat em up was running on a home console and looked polygon perfect!

When I finally purchased my Saturn I played VF2 till my thumbs were raw

I always went for Lion as I was studying 7 Star mantis at the time and loved wearing a bright orange body warmer... I also liked a challenge. Damn you McWild!!!! When I play it now I have to be Lau, so clearly based on Hwang Jang Lee. It's the laugh that gets me, and his disturbed persona. The bloke beats his own daughter up to win the competition!!!!!

I remember I had the demo of this game. I used to play it over and over but my parents never wanted to get it for me. I'm gonna keep an eye out for it in the shops now that I'm a big girl and I can buy my games.

I remember playing this in an arcade back in the day, such an awesome fighter. Never got to play the Saturn port but people have said its great.

After reading in this topic, I feel like I'm missing out on something. I hope the local PNT has a copy.
