My favorite SNES RPG has to be Chrono Trigger. Many of the Final Fantasy's on this system were not interesting to me. I've also tried out Lufia and a few others such as Secret of Mana, but none have compared to Chrono Trigger on my side.
Wow the SNES has alot of good RPGs. Yet I can easily choose a favourite for me: Terrangima. Fantastic music, combat that didn't suck, fun dungeons, a world thats effected as you progress, also terrible soccer joke.

Ah, this is a tough question... either Final Fantasy VI or Super Mario RPG: Legend of Seven Stars.

Chrono Trigger was great, but I remember playing Tales of Phantasia and that was really fun. It had an interesting story, good characters, and fun side-scrolling battles. Another game I liked was Secret of Evermore, which seemed similiar to Secret of Mana.

Chrono Trigger ... it was an awesome game and enjoyed the time travel theme quite a lot. Would like to try its sequel at some point ...

Without any doubt the game is Chrono Trigger. Awesome game with stunning graphics, good music and superb storyline.

Chrono Cross? I have trouble classing it as a sequal, it's a great game, it just doesn't have anything to do with Chrono Trigger. It's like Square we're too scared to give it an original name so they tacked on "Chrono" so that it'll sell on the success of Chrono Trigger.
Also the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger is better.

Loved the anime in it but the game itself seemed the same but with longer loading. Didn't play the psone version all the way through though so I can't give A full opinion on it.
Chrono's my fave too.

It was released in the Final Fantasy Chronicles (http://www.square-enix-usa.com/games/FFC/), which is probably why most people are not aware it was released. However, It did suffer from some slowdown.
I'll post this here to save taking up more space :P
Super Mario RPG? Anyone heard of it? Tis good...bad...rare...cheap...I just saw it mentioned and didn't recognise it..

I played Chono Trigger, Super Mario RPG and FF III (or VI, the one with Terra) but my favorite was Chrono Trigger. It had lots of endings wich made you unsure about when you should face the final boss. That was truly amazing along with the story itself.
Well, Chrono Trigger is the obvious choice here. Hot graphics, wonderful´music, cool characters and interestin story themes. Also probably the best character and monster design Akira Toriyama has ever done.

I haven't played Cross, so I'm not sure, but alot of reading on wikipedia throughout the years, makes me think otherwise.
Kid was raised on an orphanage owned by Lucca (from CT) and also has some connection to Shala (Magus's sister). There's also the character Glenn who is designed to be an alternate version of the Glenn in CT (aka Frog).
So it has at least more connection with each other than any two final fantasies (beside X and X2, and all the recent FF7 based games).

Can't say I noticed any of that, however it doesn't actually seem to be the same world.

I remember when I played Chrono Cross, that I saw the old ship you use in the Chrono Trigger game to travel through time, but you couldn't use it. Also, the three main characters (Chrono, Lucca, and Marle) make an appearance in Chrono Cross close to the final battle in which you face Schala merged with Lavos. I believe Kid (the female thief who accompanies Serge, the main character) is actually a clone of Schala. After you beat the game, the ending was kind of weird.
Ah, now I know how to edit for spoiler.

I allready knew most of that stuff from wikipedia, but you might consider putting up a spoiler warning on that, if some people are considering playing it.

Chrono trigger for me. Absolutely loved it. Neverplayed cross though....
I'd have to say Terranigma to be honest, though Super Mario RPG is in a close second.
Never really got far enough into Chrono Trigger to get why everybody loves it so much. I might have to give the DS version a whirl when that's released next year and see if I can buy into the hype.

Hell yea!
Another one for Terranigma, though did you forget the best Final Fantasy games came out on SNES?
Yeah, but I didn't play those on the SNES. I played the PSone ports, which probably didn't run as quick due to CD load times and crap.
Tales of Phantasia's alright as well, thinking about it. Not really got that far into it last I checked, but it's got a good battle system.

Yea Tales of Phantasia was good, but it's better on PS1 and now is probably one of the worse Tales games.
I'm assuming that you're suggesting subsequent Tales games are much better, and that the actual quality of Phantasia hasn't subsided over time?

Exactly which is more than I can say for Final Fantasy. Dragon Quests aswell have gotten alot better, and by that I mean they got rid of that fuggin annoying menu thing.
Hmm, you know, Dragon Quest is a series I've never played, and never really wanted to play. It's quite weird, actually.
Let's see, what other SNES RPGs are favourites of mine? Live a Live wasn't too bad, bit random though.

I am not sure how to put the spoiler warning. Where is the option for it?

Truth be told, I don't either. But usually typing "-SPOILERS-" at the top is enough of a warning. Not that big a deal this time, though, since the game is pretty old. But it's good to make a habit of using spoiler warnings.
I think the Spoiler tags are set by [*spoiler][/spoiler], without the *, obviously.
I'd say Mario RPG because I remember evething. :D
Aside from CT being my obvious fav here, I'd like to mention Soul Blazer. It's a mighty nice action-RPG. The story and gameplay is a bit straight-forward, and the graphics aint anything special. But the music is made of awesomesauce and the game has a very special feel to it that I rarely see in other RPG's.
It's sequels (Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma) have much improved action, but they're full of frustrating parts that I just can't find in Soul Blazer, making it my fav of the three.

I have to go with Super Mario RPG. Nintendo and SQUARE: a force not to be messed with.
My favorite is CT but I also played Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Can't remember which one it is. I never got all the endings for CT though. I wonder how many are there?
It's a shame that EarthBound hasn't been mentioned once in this thread. I'd have to give it an honoury mention because even though it's freaking awesome, it never came out here and I've only managed to play it on an emulator.
