View Full Version : Are Bungie Developing Halo 4?

Interesting turn of events today, as Bungie stopped their timer, and cancelled the big reveal they had planned at E3. Apparently it was the publisher's call to cancel the reveal, yet they didn't mention who the developer was.

However, Microsoft also came out today and said that Bungie were making a new Halo game, which isn't Halo Wars or Halo: Chronicles (the Peter Jackson one, game title came from Wiki).

Now, Bungie haven't responded to this claim as yet. In fact, all they've said is this (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=14782). So, are the two projects the same, or are Bungie big enough to work on two games at once?

By now I think they'd have the size to work on two games at once..

I would love to have a Halo 4, but I'd rather it be another novel, it would make a better story than game, and hard to follow up as the Covenant are gone, the flood is dead and 343 is scrap..

I'd like it to focus on the Fall of Reach, the events before the first Halo, the story is fantastic, there's more than one spartan and it would be interesting to see the different worlds and missions they go on...

Other than that it would maybe be like...a spin off side story of what happens during other halo events...but I can't see that as being as fun...or taking controll of the covenant...that'd suck >.>

I'd like them to make a game that doesn't suck, a sequal to Oni or at least something similar.

Well, according to a rumour GameSpot heard, the potential Halo 4 wouldn't be as cartoony as the first three, and wouldn't follow Master Chief at all. In fact, it would be squad based, like a mixture of Ghost Recon and Gears of War, and would feature a group of USNC soldiers. There was no confirmation of this rumour either, nor a denial.

As for a new novel, Halo: The Cole Protocol is due out in Q4 2008 :)

...

Cartoony? What the hell? If anything I'd probably enjoy Halo if it was more cartoony.

Really? That's great! :) I got to First Strike and then stopped buying them, I'll have to start again!

Ah nonononono...Halo was cool beacuse of the Master Chief and awesome Spartans...the universe, story behind it and supporting characters are pretty thin, but it doesn't matter when you play as someone so cool...

I'd hate to see them do it, team-based tacical whatevers is GRAW teritory, not a genre I really enjoy...I just can't see it working in Halo -_- its just too zany to be tactical

Lemme link to the article GS had. And as for cartoony, the reference was made as meaning that the graphics were bright and sunny for most of the levels.

Here's the article:

That was a decent comment on the article...

The Spartans have shield systems and the AI, Colonial Mariens have nothing, if it was being realistic they would all die on one shot :D

I'm just glad they're at least taking Halo in a new direction. There are some companies that just rattle out the same crap in a franchise for 20yrs and just watch the money roll in. Well either that or they're just making a new game and slapping Halo's name on it to make money.......... I'm not sure.

It sounds like they're taking it in a new direction.

Ironically this is the one franchise I would love to have minor updates and be released every year :P I'd buy it. I'd love to see the MC crash on a planet and have something happen there. It could be an old human colony, virus outbreaks, cue zombies, then the coveneant reform, without the elites or brutes but with new races...that'd rock :D

I'm not looking forward to a Squad-Based Tactical game putting me in the shoes of those loser marines...the whole attraction of Halo was being the super soldier, mean green and...regenerating shields, yeah!

I do want to know what happened to the chiefster after Halo 3. IS HE GONNA BE ALRIGHT? WELL? IS HE?

Well in Cryo with no way to contact any other forces or fly out =3

That means either a crash landing on an alien planet, or drifiting there for years ala Aliens and seeing what'd happen in the future

I liked the almost...romantic angle with Cortana and the Chief =3 I thought that was cute

I prefered the sexual tension between the chief and segeant Johnson.

XD mm, that would be an interesting sub-plot I'm sure...

I'd still like to play as the other Spartans...especially when the covenant were invading Reach, billions of aliens to a couple of small teams O: fun!

That would be interesting to see. I'd like to be in A battle with other spartans charging either side of me. That'd be cool.

It'd make the Co-op mode a bit more realistic...if they focused more on the campaign and less on the multi-player (Which rocks and always will rock)

You could add in RPG elements, each spartan was good with something (explosives, sniping, Zero-G combat) it'd be interesting to create a Spartan best suited to you, and play along with other Spartans with different skills..

Oh! And more enemy AI, far more please =]

You not seen the Legendary ending to Halo 3 then?

Course I have, Cryo, Freezing, Power down, Cortana sends out a signal, one that will take years to be found by UNSC, ne?

Yeah, but then you see MC drifting towards a planet at the very end.

It would be good to see a Halo game with him on that planet, but I reckon it'd be the very obvious choice, so I'd like to see a game that does something a little different. Like Halo Wars, that looks fun ^_^

I've looked at Halo Wars, its certainly not my kind of game :( pretty ugly looking, and I suck at RTS

Anyway =3 so long as its an FPS I'll be fairly happy

Halo Wars has been developed with the Halo fan in mind, as well as RTS fans, so that it appeals to both. It certainly sounds as though it plays well.

Give the demo a whirl when it pops up, and see how you feel then. I'm pretty shocking at RTS' myself, but the idea of training a squadron of Spartans up to take down a Covenant base is enough of a selling point for me :D

Nuuuu DX Its set 20 years before Halo! They have no Spartans! MK I would all be dead and MK II would all be about 10 years old! The timeline doesn't fit dammit!!! ITS ALL WRONG DAMMIT!!!!

-Ahem-

I have never in my life managed to play an RTS and win...or understand what was going on...Battlefront doesn't really count huh? :P though fun it was..

I'll certainly play it through =3 but I think my loathing of RTS will outwiehg the Halo love :(

Bungie are helping Ensemble out with the storyline aspects of the title, so I'm fairly sure that the Spartan integration won't reckon the canon of the series.

Hehe good good :P

Well at least I get my Spartan Squad dream :D

Gavvie
17-07-2008, 22:08
Yeah, in a fashion. I think you have to research them before you can start to recruit them though. At the beginning of the campaign, or in skirmish mode (always the best mode in RTS'), you'll just have your USNC forces, and a Warthog.

Can't wait to see the next Bungie Halo game. I don't think it'll be Halo 4 but maybe another game set in the Halo universe. Hoepfully it'll focus on the other four members of the Blue Spartans.

Halo 3: Recon is a standalone expansion for Halo 3, based in the fictional Halo universe. In the game, the players will take on the role of a UNSC Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) during the events leading up to Halo 3.

I wouldn't expect Halo 4. As a PC gamer I'm still waiting to hear about Halo 3 being released. Which reminds me, I need to make a new thread...

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_3_Recon).

Note: from what I've been lead to believe, Halo 3: Recon is the last Halo title.

Yeah, that's right :) along with Halo Wars (which will suck...not enough RTS for RTS fans, and not enough Halo shooting for Halo fans)

I'm mixed about this =/ why on earth do you take the one thing from halo that made you forget about repetitive levels and really have fun? Tom Clancy's given me army games where you play as normal people without shiny green armour....they suck D:

It could be exciting though....there was also a Peter Jackson video game project, but that's pretty much confirmed to be cancelled >_>

I kinda wish they wouldn't do anymore but I get the feeling they'd be too tempted to. Halo's a big money maker, I don't see em giving up the millions Halo games would get them so easy.

Personally I would like to see Halo 3 for the PC before Halo 4 or totally canning the whole series. :(

Its maybe a little unlikely to happen, Halo 3 is still one of the 360's biggest system sellers...and probably the only reason I still turn mine on.

Are bungie currently developing Halo Recon? I know they managed to buy themselves out of MS's clutches by giving up ownership of the Halo franchise >_>

Halo and Halo 2 were the XBOX big sellers, they sold the system, but we still got them. ^_^ BRING ON HALO 3!

If you can't install Halo 1 what are the chances of number 3 working? XD

I'd love them to release it though :D I have lots of friends who'd play it on PC, but never touch a 360

Whether Bungie are developing the lastest Halo game is about as interesting to me as if Bin Laden is developing the latest strain of anthrax. They're both feckin' awful!

Yes, yes XD

Can't argue Bungie's success though, they've totally revolutionised online matchmaking and no other shooter out there has the level of customization as halo. I mean I've had it for ages now and it still manages to make me laugh out loud, fantastic fun.

The story was a big dissapointment :/ but meh.

I did actually like the first one, well until Timesplitters 2 came out at least, as it was very well excuted. Now when my nostalgic mates force me into a game the only part I like playing is the Library level, and it has to be on legendary at that just to spice things up a bit. Otherwise it feels to slow and pedestrian. If you ever play it straight after playing something really fast like Quake or Unreal it feels like you're walking through mud.

That's where we're different :P I don't enjoy steroid fulled arena games like Unreal.

The first one I loved, it was always the multi-player that kept you coming back for more....there were some god awful levels, I'll always remember the Warthog chase at the end :3

Yowch :O I relied on Diet Coke and mini-Doughnuts, no game has ever made me feel the same way Halo did during that last mad 6 second dash to the Longsword ship, me and my friend screaming XD RUN RUN RUUUN!!!!

Ahh...good times...
