View Full Version : RadioSEGA bugs
Well so far I'm still working on more posting content that is more "on topic" but meanwhile I have encountered two interesting bugs (I validated them on a separate computer to help ensure it wasn't just my laptop/browser):
1. The login system freaks out when you login via http://radiosega.net instead of http://www.radiosega.net It will give you a "thank you for logging in" message and then throws you to the main page not logged in. If you aren't paying attention you are further confused when you click to request a track. :)
2. Weird search bug. I perform a search for "sonic adventure 2" (no quotes). I scroll to the bottom and see "Showing 1 to 50 of 60". I click the Next button by that message. I am now giving a bunch of Daytona USA results and the bottom now says "Showing 51 to 100 of 1418".

The first one may have something to do with the vBulletin hack I used, I'll have to check the code, I'm still learning PHP. However once RadioSEGA moves servers I have an option on the new server to force the www. infront of radiosega.net anyway, but I'd like to solve that.
Secondly I know, basically I had to get a mod for the default search script and it doesn't carry on when you click next, I have no idea how yet to solve it, but it's something I want to fix.
Sadly it's a case of time, and the fact is I'm still new to php, but learning! When I move the site to the new server (this week hopefully) and reveal the improved newer look with some changes made I'll see about bug fixes.
University sadly dictates my live... Also so does alcohol. ;)

Yeah I had to learn some PHP for my own forum too. If you need help with database queries and such let me know. Databases are my specialty. :) Much of what I do for a living involves managing databases and applications that use them.

That's a great offer, I'll be sure to give you a shout if I need some advice. :)
Any objections to setting up a BugZilla for RadioSEGA? I'm really getting annoyed at the inconsistencies between the new messages displayed on the home page versus those displayed in the forum. A BugZilla would also be great for tracking all the enhancement ideas that keep popping in my head.

Sure, I'm always open to comments and feedback on how to improve the site.
I've wondered why it did that, the only way to really zero the counter is to Mark all forums read which is in the Quick Links menu.

Seems like a multi-session bug to me. It seems like it wants to treat the main page as a separate session that the rest of the site.

Can i help make this site better?
EDIT: Edited the grammar/punctuation. It's very important to keep a high standard of grammar and punctuation here, so please try harder in future. Thanks, =) - Siriku

The way it works is to do with this
http://www.radiosega.net/forum/search.php?do=getnew
It reads data from this, this shows show recent posts, and as we know the blue Sonic means a new post, and here we can see stuff that's new, but already read. Mark all forums Read clears this list.
Technically the posts are new, but we've read them so on the other hand they're not. The posts must time out after a while. I'll have to see if there's a way vBulletin can treat stuff differently.

Brings up a good question... What made you decide to use vBulletin (not saying anything bad about it--I haven't used it myself before)? I found the code to phpBB to be easier to understand.

I've always liked vBulletin because I prefer the Admin panel to begin with, and there's a far larger user community who created hacks and mods, I'm starting to get to grips with messing with VB anyway. I like the way I can skin it too, more freedom I felt, rather than the last time I used phpBB.
phpBB I've used in the past, but I think it's a bit cheap (well it is free!) and nasty. I hated the Admin CP.

I think the best thing general forum users as a whole can do is be an active participant to conversations. This includes using good grammar, staying on topic and creating new topics that are meaningful.
That being said... I guess asking how to make the site better is relevant to RadioSEGA bugs... LOL

I'm starting to warm to you Mufasa. ;) Haha.
If there is an increase, don't expect it to be any more than 80x80.
Hmmm. Just found out one reason to hold off on a height increase now that my browser cache has been updated...
The site design doesn't center the RadioSEGA logo and stretch the borders based by the total height of the line so an 80x80 avatar looks like this at the top of each page... :(

I know why that's happened. Avatar limits are set by usergroup, Super Moderators wasn't done. But it is now. If your avatar is still too big, reupload it.

I'll fix that when I get home from work...
Are you working on the feed today? My RadioSEGA groove has been interrupted. ;)

Can't even connect to the PC running it via VNC, so there's an issue back at home... Chances are the cable modem crashed or the router did. Trying to call home but noones in... Great!
EDIT: Got through to someone, the PC was off, how odd... Must of been a power cut of somesorts, if so it was very short since my father hasn't noticed anything... Anyway, we're back!

Suspicious that this occurred today (Microsoft Patch Tuesday). Hope nobody is using a new exploit revealed by today's patches...

Weird. No battery backup?

No battery backup, costs money and we've not had a serious power cut for years. If there has been a power cut it's lasted minutes.
The downtime has been so long because I've been at Uni all day so I've not had a chance to get it sorted sooner.
Not sure about exploits, was there any Windows 2000 patches recently? Everything is pretty secure at home anyway, behind firewalls, routers and shit. :)

Not this Patch Tuesday (no security patches this month), but last month this (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-012.mspx) patch was released that affects Windows 2000. If you have any MFC based applications running (i.e. custom web server built into application) the application may need to be updated in addition to applying the patch.
Hmmm... You working on something with the forum code? If I go to the main thread list and try to click on the last thread name, it constructs a weird URL.

Nope, I just didn't do a proper reinstall when I moved it back across yesterday, I rushed it. I know about it anyway and it's being fixed. :)
Hmmmm... I'm remembering the old site design and the whole panel in the upper right hand corner that showed your own avatar and how many private messages you hadn't read... Is it intentional to have SegaMark's avatar in this spot instead of the logged in user? I think the Genesis 16-Bit icon is pretty cool but it makes me feel like my avatar got changed on me.

Oh yeah I put image.php?u=1 in there instead of image.php?u=$userid
Silly me. I'll fix it after work.

I'm guessing you already "fixed" it. Now that box shows up empty for me.
