View Full Version : Are you happy with the Wii?

Are you happy with the Nintendo Wii currently? I've owned mine since last year and while it has games I did enjoy I just... can't seem to keep myself interested in the system because of the lackluster game library. I've played a ton of games and so far the only decent titles have been made by Nintendo with a few exceptions (No More Heroes, MoHH2, RE:UC, RE4) which saddens me.
The Virtual Console and the WiiWare channel are enough to keep me coming back for more but I really wish that developers would take the systems hardware serious and actually try to make good games for it instead of shovelware with tacked on controls for a cheap buck.
What I don't understand is that developers taunt the Wii's hardware as inferior thus it's not possible to make epic games on it. This makes no sense considering the hardware is as powerful as the original XBox which was just 2 years ago... why can't we have our games for the Wii that are similar to Halo 2, Fable, Forza, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive Ultimate, etc? If the XBox could do it then the Wii can do it as well.

The only thing the Wii lacks, is Hardcore Games. I know they have the VC, but it's not enough.

Currently I'm quite happy with my Wii. The game library is quite good, but the game developers still don't take it seriously.
No, to be honest. Too much of it's games consist of shovelware crap and PS2 ports, not that all ports and bad but really a port is still a port. VC is nice but really it's nothing more than a mega emulator. WiiWare is nice but I don't want to get too excited about it till Nintendo sort their storage problem out.

Yeah I'm still waiting on Nintendo to release a Harddrive or something... they keep saying "You can use SD cards" but I guess Nintendo doesn't realize how slow transferring data is on the Wii doing this. It can take up to 15 minutes from my experience...

I am very happy with my Wii, it's very easy to forget games you have already completed. I could think of at least 20 games I have loved on the Wii, yeah of course a lot of 3rd parties make crap but that's true to every console.
If you wanna play Halo and Forza etc then get an XBOX 360. I like the Wii's alternate games as apposed to the other two platforms. It's always been the way, different consoles have different games and different styles of games, I don't want my Wii to have Gears of War or GTA, that's what my 360 is for, I like the different styles of games the Wii has.
As for the Storage problem it is going to be fixed, and hopefully soon.

I'm quite happy with it as personally I don't want any other system. I'll admit it doesn't have a huge amount of games I'm interested in at the moment and I'm annoyed that their last update stopped my freeloader from working but I'm pleased with the VC as that is a good feature. Also, more SEGA games seem to released on the Wii so that's another bonus, overall it's got good and bad points but more good than bad.
As much as I like wii sports the wii just doesn't cater much to my tastes although I will be getting mario cart and smash bros. at some point. I know whatzelda_sushi is trying to say about the graphics as the xbox was quite powerfull.
I like the Wii, but just like every other console, there are some pros and cons. There may not be a lot of hardcore games but hopefully there will be more in the future.
I like the Wii a lot although I just wish more developers would stop making mini game compilations and take the system more serious and realise more original games for the system like No More Heroes and Zak & Wiki instead of ports with motion controls that don’t work.
A plus side is VC it’s always nice to play classic games as well as import only stuff like Sin & Punishment and Gley Lancer and WiiWare shows a lot of potential already with games like Lost Winds.
Overall it’s a great system it has its down sides (storage space etc) but every system has a downside.

I'm happy with my Nintendo Wii.
I'm not really (if at all) a hardcore gamer, so I don't mind the sort of games it has. One thing I am disappointed with is the lack of online play, which to me seems quite capable of.
Another plus point is that it starts up a lot quicker than my laptop, so, quickly browsing the web for cinema times, etc. is quite handy.
I haven't yet had the need to move channels to SD cards, so I don't know about that, but that wouldn't really be a problem for me because I have a handful of other devices that use SD cards, so there's always one to hand should the need arise.

I'm happy with the games themselves. I've had and enjoyed a few games now since I got my Wii. But I'm not really impressed by the controls to be honest. They work ok but it just feels unnecessary, with games like Wii Sports. Fair enough it does the job but with more core games ( RE4, Zelda, Mario Galaxy etc.) I just don't think it actually adds anything to them or actually makes them more fun. You can just do what you do on the games with a control pad.

No not really. Super Mario Galaxy aside nothing on Wii has grabbed me. My two kids don't even play on it they prefer to play Sonic1 & 2, SEGA Superstar Tennis, Bomberman Live, Lego Indiana Jones and Turtles Arcade on 360.
This gen has not gone as planned I thought I'd like the Wii most with PS3 second and 360 distant last but 360 is my favourite, with Wii second and PS3 a very very very distant last.
I'm not happy with it at all =[
Really dissapointing, forgetting the fact there's no new games coming out that look fun, and forgetting the fact that VC totally over charges you money to play games you could get for free..
Its still not great...not including ports or shovelware, I found Metroid 3 to be fairly dull when compared to the last 2, Galaxy played well but it just bugged me...maybe cause it was in space xP.
Umm...metroid and galaxy...zelda is a gamecube port...anything else?
I've played about 20 games for the Wii and none have ever made me sit up and play all night -_-
Though I guess the Wii isn't targeted at a gamer with half a brain anymore huh? XD give it a few more years and it'll be like HAL, making sure you excercise, eat right...
This generation has been the worst to date D: Its had great games and great platforms, but a load of wasted potential. The PS3 is my fave right now, the 360 makes me want to puke and the wii makes me want to cry :P

I'm mostly happy with the Wii, although the American Virtual Console lineup, in comparison to its Japanese counterpart, has really started to suck ass in recent months and it seems a lot of developers aren't even trying to use the console's unique control setup, opting instead to release quick ports and shit.

I'm not too into motion control. SSBB was cool, but you play that with friends. I got NiGHTS, but my brother's been hogging the Wii. As for the VC, I haven't really seen any games I like. If some Saturn games(is it even possible) were there, I'd be a little more inclined, but until then, no.

Saturn won't be possible due to the massive game size and it's un-emulateable on the Wii at the moment.

Are they massive? I mean...Soul Calibur was done on the 360 arcade?
Are they massive? I mean...Soul Calibur was done on the 360 arcade?
It was done because the 360 hardware has more capabilities of running games like Saturn, for example. And the Wii probably can't emulate Saturn games.
@Topic:
I don't know, I've only been with it for 4 weeks then it went to Holland. It's great, but the library is too small.

I think the Wii is a complete turd of a console if I'm honest. Terrible controller, limited graphics, mediocre games library and just nothing that stands out and grabs me. It's a console for women and easily amused drunk mates at the end of the day.

I think it just annoys me that rather than spend a bit of time coming up with something new. It's almost like they had a meeting and thought, "I've got an idea. See how I'm moving this guy around. *moves stick around* Now check out this *moves guy by twitching arm with new remote* ". (Nintendo boss) "That's great, stick it with a Gamecube. We'll make millions." They just try and convey an image of fun and being about the games and there just the most blatant cash whores out there.

Seems to me after reading all these opinions that that word "games console" has lost all meaning. They're turning it into a bloody exercise machine.

For me the term Games console lost all meaning with the PS2, when they started trying to turn them into 'home entertainment hubs' or whatever bollocks they call them now.
I love my Wii! Almost feels like the Dreamcast in some ways. Many excellent games and some great DC ports. Hopefully the Shenmue rumour will be true too! Another thing is that all old GC games works! The future looks bright and shiny for this console!!:)

Of course Gamecube games would work on it. It IS a Gamecube.-_-
And just to clarify, I'm not being a Sony fanboy or anything. The only console I have at the moment is a Wii.

I think its now standard to have at least some degree of backwards compatibility, obviously the GC not having any as the N64 used Carts.
And the PS3 DOES have Backward Compatability (sp?) >_> certain models do anyway...ahem...
The Wii is more of a cheap twitch purchase...only problem being its not cheap at all. I was in the game store today and found about ten titles (out of about 200) that I would have a go and play with, then I look at things like controllers, light guns, and the cost of the system itself, it just doesn't really justify the expense...
I get the new market and everything, but you still have to cater to the old one, if you want games to continue selling and profit to role in, its the hardcore that buy them, not the salesman's wife who bought one as a joke, you know? :P

I don't know about that. The PS3 doesn't have BC apart from a few early models, by the end of the console's cycle that will be a trvial amount of the total userbase.
The 360 has an, almost insulting, token gesture of BC. MS copped out and cheaply tried to emulate a few games because they thought the PS3 would have full BC and didn't want to fall behind in any way. As soon as Sony drop BC the updates from MS 'just happen' to dry up. A coincidence, I think not.
The Wii is the only consle withi BC and that has almost the same archtecture as it's predecessor anyway.

The PS3 has full compatability with PS1 games =] The 80gb model is due for release in Europe this christmas, I don't know if it does PS2 games or not? If so it'd be cool =] retailing at the same price as a 360 Elite!
I was amazed at the 360's BC, classics like Sudeki don't work? wtf? o_O but games like Judge Dredd & Barbie do...grr...and the PS3 has a bad rep for BC, the 360 is just as bad.

Too bad that Sony said that model will be the same as the 40GB, so don't count PS2 on it. -_-

Ah well, argument still stands, the PS2 is one of the best selling consoles of all time, if you don't have one, why not? XD
Pick up a pre-owned one for about £30 anyways...same goes with Xbox :P
I'm still happy with my PS2, but Guitar Hero III made me move to the PS3...But I'm still PS2-ded. And who isn't? XD
And that's cheap...(Means can't remember the price of it on the debut. XD)

It was way expensive when first released -_- I got my slimline one much later for about £100, I got the Xbox first, it was way more exciting at the time :D
The PS2 just had all the best RPG's and Anime styled games...it also had the most bull and shovelware >.> but what can you do?
Anyway! I am noy happy with the Wii right now, the Wii is like a smoothie maker, you buy it, play with it once, and forget about it.
I think i'd be happyer if they reliced more in depth games rather than all of than all of the remote fondeling ones that have saturated the market.
That said, I have a few titles i'm happy with so its not all bad.
As far as the Wii goes, it has become my fav. home console since N64, the only bad thing, as I see it, it's that the VC is still empty...

Warning: Rant Ahead.
Wii's been a big disappointment for me. I got it when it was first released, when it had so much potential, but that potential just vanished over the following year when the lousy ports turned up and anticipated games announced before launch were riddled with delays (Brawl; two years, Disaster: Day or Crisis & Project H.A.M.M.E.R; neither have ever turned up) and then the people who had never touched a console before suddenly pushed their noses in with their disposable incomes and the market is flooded with games I wouldn't touch with a pole vault pole.
It doesn't help that Ninty have really been annoying me lately; the high prices of games and preipherals, (£180 for a full set of controllers? Only three human beings can afford to waste money like that: Bill Gates (Who probably wouldn't considering he's Microsoft-man, fighting his arch-nemisis Dr. Jobs), The Queen (Who's too busy defending the Earth from aliens) and Satoru Iwata (because of all the damn money he's got from the Wii!)) along with the sheem around of poor quality games they're releasing for the Wii and DS ("Sight Training" anyone?) and their God awful adverts. (I want to gouge my eyes out of my head, shove my fingers into the bleeding eye sockets and twist them around in my brain to try and remove the memory of them when I see one)
Now onto the online service, first up the channels. They started off nicely (News, weather and webernet without having to get out of your chair? Very handy.) But things have slipped. The pathetic "Nintendo Channel" puts me in mind of nothing more than self-propelling propagander and the Mii Contest Channel was a slight novelty at first, but after ten minutes you get a bit sick of the endless poorly made Mario/Simpsons/Family Guy/Naruto characters, worst of all they havwen't given us anyhting to make up for it since, it's been months since they've given us a good idea for a channel.
Vitual Console, I'll be brief: I like it, but it's far too expensive.
*Takes a moment for a breath or two*
I'm not going to repeat what everyone else has said about the storage issue.
I want to like my Wii, I really really do, but the combination of Nintendo's current attitue and the lack of brilliant games for it don't make me all smiley inside like I thought Wii would make me when it was first released.

(Note: That was sarcasm.)
Then again at the end of the conference they tacked this onto the end: "Uh...We've got Mario and Zelda in development....We swear! Don't look at us like we're just making this up! We're not! We just uh...Just...*Shiggy and co. run off stage before any questions are able to be asked*"

Ever get the feeling the heads of Zelda & Mario team died and now the trainees are struggling for new ideas? XD Besides they could be working on a new game, but the new game could be like....Brain Exercise keep fit yoga cooking class....
What the Wii really needs to do is stay away from motion controlls, look at Brawl. That game is amazing (with a GC controller) They need to be more free in letting developers use normal controllers without motion, at least that way the Wii could get some ports, or developers for PS3 & 360 may be more swayed to do a game for Wii too.
Not that motion controls are a bad thing, just they can ruin a game that doesn't need them...Sonic and The Secret Rings is a good example...

Kaito-kun you have really valid reasons. Besides Wario Land, Madworld and the next batch of Sonic games I'm not really looking for anything in particular for the Wii. Besides like Rayne's signature says, the DS is the real Nintendo money maker.
I'm generally satisfied with my Wii, but I'm also getting tired of the amount of shovelware released.

I got rid of my Wii about 3-4 weeks after getting it. Games were ok enough, I just felt jipped that I'd paid full whack for a Gamecube. I know gaming's a business but at least Sony and Microsoft will actually put some money into there games and consoles, just re-releasing an old console and making games using the same graphic engines from back when the cube first came out, making the cost of each game about 50p then charging full price takes the biscuit. And releasing about 4 different versions of every pissin game they make just to cash in on the fans. I could rant on about Nintendo all day so im gonna stop, Shanemans right. Its just that there such f***'s.
Well all I have to say is that I love the Wii, really I do I play it more then my 360 these days though I do have to agree on some of the points raised here.
I’ll admit Nintendo seem to be forgetting about the hardcore gamer with all these how to make you smarter games or how to cook better food etc but when they do games for the hardcore I and everybody else sits up and takes notice but the problem is there’s not enough of them. I can understand Nintendo wanting to have more people play games with all these casual games and I have no problem with that its just they should not forget about their roots. It’s the hardcore gamers that what made them in the first place and they should not forget that yet they seem to be. The last true hardcore Nintendo game I remember is SSBB, it was the game Wii owners were waiting for after what seemed a decade but then nothing. Disaster: Day or Crisis is on its way & Project H.A.M.M.E.R that looked cool has sadly been canned now after these what else is there? Now I love Nintendo always will but to get the respect it should from its hardcore fan base it needs to change.
Another thing that gripes me about the Wii is the lack of truly great 3rd party games. Apart from No More Heroes and Zak & Wiki and some of SEGA’s stuff name one other truly great 3rd party Wii game? There isn’t anything it seems rather that developers would rather take the safe route and port over PS2 games with bad graphics with pointless motion controls that don’t work, it seems they are scared to make something original and rather play it safe yet it does not seem to work. Even Ubi Soft admitted that may of their Wii game were poor and that they needed to improve. Another thing is those endless party games. We don’t need anymore we have Wii Sports and Wii Play both a lot of fun and yet publishers would rather throw money at making these games rather then putting in money for original games and why? Because that’s where the money is, they sell in the bucket loads so they play it safe and make more of them. It seems many publishers are taking us Wii owners for idiots.
The online services I have a love hate relationship with yes the Nintendo channel is nothing more then one big TV ad the only saving grace of it is the fact you can download demos of DS games though it’s a lot of old stuff on there and not a lot of new stuff, this needs to change. Mii Contest channel is fun I always enter the compos when there on but Kaito-kun is right on the fact that it gets quite old seeing the same old Mario/Simpson’s/Family Guy/Naruto characters but there is some pretty good stuff on there if you look hard enough.
Virtual Console I like this a lot its always good to play some old classics again but there are some poor choices on there and the fact that a lot of gems are not up there. Although WiiWare is a saving grace I already have Lostwinds, Bomberman Blast, Dr Mario and Pop and am having a great time with them, Lostwinds already shows what developers can do on the Wii if they let there imagination run wild which needs to happen more.
I love my Wii and will never part with it but it really needs more creativity and true gamers games so that people can take it seriously as an essential games console and not as just some childish kids toy. With games like House Of The Dead OverKill and MadWorld coming soon it shows that the Wii can be taken seriously but if its to continue then publishers and Nintendo should stop wasting time and give us the games we want.

Thank you good sir what I will say is that evey console has its problems, not every one of them is prefect but its all really about the games and the Wii despite some crap ports has some truly magic titles which makes me proud to be a gamer.

Nicely put 7Force.
I have to say yes. People don't like it because it does not have a Halo or Call of Duty but we got all the original games. We have Brawl, Mario Kart, No More Heroes, and so on. The stuff we're going to get is Amazing Monster Hunter 3, Capcom vs (that one anime company, can't remember name right now), Mad World and those are just a few. Wii may not get the big games but the Wii gets original games. I will take those any day.
I’ll admit Nintendo seem to be forgetting about the hardcore gamer with all these how to make you smarter games or how to cook better food etc but when they do games for the hardcore I and everybody else sits up and takes notice - Do they? What was the last hardcore game they made? Brawl didn't add anything new, nor did Mario Galaxy & Zelda was a glorified gamecube port, I haven't seen anything that gets me excited
It seems many publishers are taking us Wii owners for idiots. - At the very least, 60% are parents/young kids that wouldn't know better and wouldn't care, why should they make something great for a small bit of the market, when they can make cheap shovelware that WILL sell?
The online services I have a love hate relationship with yes the Nintendo channel is nothing more then one big TV ad the only saving grace of it is the fact you can download demos of DS games though it’s a lot of old stuff on there and not a lot of new stuff, this needs to change. Although WiiWare is a saving grace I already have Lostwinds, Bomberman Blast, Dr Mario and Pop and am having a great time with them, Lostwinds already shows what developers can do on the Wii if they let there imagination run wild which needs to happen more. - All overpriced, that's my personal point of view...but so is XBLA and at least here when you spend a fiver you get Super Mario World and not Dig Dug
I love my Wii and will never part with it but it really needs more creativity and true gamers games so that people can take it seriously as an essential games console and not as just some childish kids toy - But it is a childs toy, and a tool for learning and educating. They'll never, ever be able to shake that image now, familys know it, gamers know it, if you asked Joe Public to describe a Wii he wouldn't call it a Hardcore gaming machine, even if they did bring out new titles. Its like the 360 will always be seen as faulty with the RROD, even if/when they fix the issue
I pretty much agree on every point you made except a few things...
I'll be interested to see what they do next generation, how much they upgrade their hardware, if they go for casual or hardcore. It would be hard to win a good hardcore share again, but how do you keep the casual entertained, whatshisname....Myamoto? Miyamoto stated he was out of ideas and his projects were done for the Wii....yeah, it'll be interesting
On a lighter note, I've found a new font <3
I personally really like my Wii. I understand where some of you are coming from when they complain about the graphics and that they're leaving the hardcore behind, but the Wii definitely has better graphics then the Gamecube. Which the Gamecube had pretty good graphics to begin with. And since when did games for the hardcore have to have the hi-def graphics? Hardcore means it's fit to be a tournament based competitive game, Brawl, MKW, GH, and a whole slew of other games fit this category.

On the graphics part yes you are right the Wii has better graphics the the GameCube, case point Mario Galaxy and the upcoming FPS The Conduit.
...and yes, hardcore is not about HD graphics these days. I still see people play games like Street Fighter 2 Turbo in tournaments and I've seen tournament videos off SSBB in action. The Wii has some hardcore but not a big amount of it but then I'm not that a hardcore player, I'm more of a core player, and as I said before the Wii has some shit but go through it and you will find some good stuff.

Surely the "Hardcore" people complaining about the Wii are Hardcore Nintendo fans? Y'know the ones that got kicked in the groin when all Nintendo had to offer at E3 was Animal Crossing in favour of chartz and some snowboarding game. Even their TGS thing wasn't much better, oh yea Punch-Out is awesome and I can't wait but its still not enough.
Not to mention Nintendo is stuck in some time frame where its fine to treat Europe like shit when 360 games are generally released within the same month here as America.

I fell in love with the art & characters more than the gameplay, but it'd be cool to see a sequel.
I always feel kinda funny with Wii games in that....I can never stop thinking what they could have been like.
If they did F-zero on the wii? I'd love it, but I couldn't help thinking what it would have been like in HD with a 360's increased power, you know?

I don't, for me GX was F-Zero, no, racing perfection. Almost, I would like to see it online.
Yea I did see Sin & Punishment 2 but aren't Treasure making that? I can't be angry at them... except for deciding to make the new Bleach on Wii instead of the region free DS.

Didn't gel for me, controls weren't tight enough, graphics were dull...all a bit meh, though I bought it recently, so maybe I'm used too perfection XD

Treasure are making S&P2 and as of Bleach on the Wii since Treasure are doing it i'm hoping they will do it justice since the first game was a bit meh.
Oh and Treasure are doing a new Bleach game for the DS its called Bleach: Dark Souls.

Not new, I've had it over a year now. The new Bleach on the Wii seems to be more a continuation of the DS series as opposed to a sequal to whatever the Wii version was called. The newest Bleach game on DS is some kind of SRPG.

Would it really make a difference putting F-Zero on the 360? The game has never been about the graphical detail, but throwing your ship around the track at stupid speeds. May as well play Wipeout if you want a cool looking game.

Yeah it would, doesn't matter if it hasn't been about graphics before, it can still be about em now, and would really give it the extra performance, never really felt like I was doing 1000 miles an hour on the GC.
F-zero's ships look cooler, Wipeout HD is awesome but I just never 'got' the franchise...from PS1 till now I've never really enjoyed it

Lol, god forbid an F-Zero game should be given the best hardware and performance.
Its just an example -_- it'd rock on a PS3 or 360, it'd be a GC port on the Wii, tis my view of all Wii games

I know, I'm not disputing that it would look good on a 360, or defending Nintendo's approach to next gen gaming, but I'm questioning why you want a sequel to F-Zero if you then want to change some of the defining characteristics of the series. What is F-Zero excpet a super fast, stripped down racing game? It's whole ethos is about the speed and racing, and nothing else really. F-zero 64 looked crap compared to Wipeout 3 and Ridge Racer 4 back in the PSX/N64 days so technology might not make that much of a difference. You are basically asking for a different type of racing game if you want detail and that.
I wouldn't mind a new racing game from Sega myself, and as I don't really care that much about the Wii and do like good graphics, would prefer too see it on the 360 too. So I'm probably arguing about complete rubbish as usual now I think about it, lol.

The point got taken a little far, I just meant while I sit down and enjoy Wii games, I always get the niggling feeling that they could be just that bit better if the big N made an effort on the hardware front

to be fair, the Wii has offered some fantastic games, No More Heroes, Bully, Zelda Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Brawl just to name a few. I can understand why some people would get bored or underestimate the mass of Wii Games available, that is why many have gone for an Xbox or PS3.

They are both not only on other platforms but are games from the last gen. Even mash buttons is only a marginally a next gen game, a update more than anything, (but then again Nintendo fanboys only ever seem to squak about wanting more sequels so you can't blame them for taking the easy money).

Wii just pisses me off. What annoys me is the fact that I had a few games for it and enjoyed em but there is absolutely no reason why they wouldn't of worked fine on the gamecube. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, no more heroes etc. They all would've worked fine on it. They just charged me full whack for a machine I already had.

I don't mind paying £30 for them (That's all I would pay for a new game these days) so long as they have support for a GC pad. Twilight Princess, personally I thought played better on the Gamecube, but maybe I'm just plain rubbish at motion controls ^__^"

That's true, but without releasing a whole new console, with a new logo and new ad campaign, to a lot of people its almost like a new brand...so they'd have never got the sales otherwise...
Have a brand new Xbox 360!! Or...an upgrade to the old Gamecube....

I totally disagree with you sorry... =[
The Wii Is a Totally Different Thing Compared to the xbox And thats what makes it unique....
The controls are different, graphics are different, how do you think they would survive the marketing scheme if they start having everything like everybody else? I like the Wii And what it is, I do how ever agree they need a more variety of games but, towards the software and design its good how it is.... my opinion

I think that the first post meant that the wii has a lot more graphical power than the developers show to us, that it has a graphic power comparable with the XboX
--------
I believe, that the Wii, is lacking of "teh Hardcore" games, Wii's becoming more and more like the N64 looked like, a console for kids, with not many "strong" titles...
I fear nintendo's living in a cave, thinking they are making great stuff but in fact they are being surpassed by the other consoles.
The wii has a good concept in the way of controlling games, but lacks of serious games that leave you a good taste in your mouth.
Objection!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The N64 was one of my favorite consoles, and it wasn't for kids, you will still find some people playing it!!!
Also, i'm happy with the Wii, it is so simple, that makes me love it, i mean, who needs graphics if it doen't have a good gameplay, also, i feel happy to try to move something to play instead of just pressing buttons, the wii's good, just because it doesn't have hardcore games doesn't mean it's bad, i mean come on!
No more heroes, Resident Evil: Wii Edition, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, House of Dead II and III, etc.
We also need to remember that Nintendo isn't a console just for violence, i know that what everyone is looking for it's a GTA on wii or something crazy like that.
The gameplay is fun, and with that, for me it's all that matters!
One thing that annoys me when Nintendo Defence Squads turn up is usually the same cliched defences "Just because it isn't violent" "Games don't need to have amazing graphics" "these two things related directly to "hardcore"".
I grew up with Nintendo as a kid but I still look at the Wii with somewhat disgust. Nintendo has constantly been stubborn with Hardware. When Sony and SEGA gave use disc based games on consoles that could hold more data and cost less, Nintendo stuck the rather expensive and limited cartridges, with the only real advantage was lack of loadtimes. When they did eventually move on to discs they used some weird ass format.
However what format the games are are not really the problem at the moment. One of the big features of the Wii when it was announced was VC, maybe WiiWare I'm not sure, but certainly DLC. So why oh why did they not bother to look at gaming platforms that already offered DLC, the 360 and PC? What did they both have in common? That's right proper storage. So what did Nintendo decide to do? Oh yea put in tiny little flash storage on the Wii and didn't allow you the option of running stuff straight off the SD Card. That's been fixed now but not without alot of uncertainty that Nintendo gave a shit about it, with NoE boss, even though originally taken out of context, saying only the hardcore fans care, but that's ok because that's not who Nintendo care about anymore.
Speaking of hardware, the Wii's main selling point, now that it's no longer the price, is the interesting motion controls... Sorry I mean Wii Sports as it's the only game to really make decent/accurate use of the WiiMote. Sure it was fun on No More Heroes but could be a dick at times and not recognise your input, and it worked well on Resident Evil 4 but sadly included waggle...
...Waggle, the Wii has had a decent run so far, so why do developers still not know what the fuck to do with the WiiMote? I think at this point the WiiMote will never lose that gimmick title. Mostly just being badly implemented, other times being the worse choice for control with the GC pad or the Classic Controller being a much better option.
Of course now we have the Motion "sorry turns out those WiiMotes you have are unfinished please pay extra to complete them" Plus to look forward to, that developers were apparently never told about, hopefully we will get more than just crappy party games to get out when you're drunk.
Edit: Also the amount of last gen ports doesn't help, especially when they're actually worse than they were on the original console (Zelda) and now Nintendo have made GCports a series? Why did one stupid idea from Capcom turn to this?
Edit: Unless these games are like £12 like Xbox Originals, then it's somewhat O.K (not that I would buy an Xbox Original, I don't want Crimson Skies enough to waste 4GBs on it).

Resident Wii edition is just a port, Umbrella chronicles & HOTD are just lightgun games, and No More Heroes was different, but not perfect.
Pretty much exactly what Reknoc said...why would I now buy a wii when I can get a 360 £80 cheaper?
Hardcore games ARE about graphics, think back to previous hardcore titles, they've all stunned us with their use of graphics. No one is asking for violence either, Metal Gear isn't vioent, nor is Halo (both compared to other games at least) Ocarina of Time wasn't violent, nor is F-Zero...

This thread needs a poll...
Ok, so most games are ports or dull or maybe something you wouldn't even use to dig a grave with but in all odds it depends how much of a badass gamer you really. If you wanna grow up to be the next Vadar or world dictator or SegaMark (LOL) then most probably the 360's kill em' all games are for you or the PS3's... whatever the hell it's got (stuff like MGS & GTA).
If you just casually game every now and then, wanna laugh while you play or think you're someone who needs excersise then the Wii's relaxing party/arcade/free style genre is for you.
So to end it I feel as I always do about these debates, "Who bloody cares" XD. If you don't like it don't buy it.
(I tried to make that as easy and fun to read as possible :P)

Hardcore games ARE about graphics
That's a daft comment to make, ask most people on this forum what their favourite 3 games ever are and I bet most will have a 2d game in their choice. You were asked in another thread recently what your "favourite all time game" was and you mentioned Pokemon and Guitar Hero, as possible candidates to your favourite game. Graphics aren't everything;).
Also, who would deny Viewtiful Joe was absolutely brilliant? It wasn't breaking barriers with it's graphics when released.
Anyway ask yourselves "why do I play games?" and then you'll find the 'point' of games. As a clue the answer is written on this picture. It begins with 'E'.

I was going to say something about graphics not being everything. This is true, but thinking back if we did say a 2D game is out favourite ever, chances are it was fantastic looking for it's time or compared to other games on the system.
Also graphics are not limited to decals and bloom or whatever, style is part of it. So yes Veiwtiful Joe had style oozing out of everywhere, meaning that graphically it was amazing.
This generation though, HD graphics are boring. A game featuring photo realistic graphics is nothing, run of the mill, yet when Capcom announce an 8-bit game people are getting massive nerd erections. To me most of these "HD" games are ugly anyway.

Viewtiful Joe was very stylish when first released, and it was hardly a blockbuster game either...
These days graphics are one of the few things left that they can improve, gameplay has become so cliche' and dry, a shooter can be that bit more appealing when it blows you away with its graphics.
Personally, I play games to chill out, will I play a game that looks like shit? Probally not...Metal Gear 4 or Gears of War...Those I'd choose to show as Hardcore games...the graphics blew everyone away with some refined gameplay mechanics

The N64 was one of my favorite consoles, and it wasn't for kids,
Oh yes it was.
Oh yes it was.
Whoops I didn't see that.
Yes it was, so are most consoles.
It's like you watch a cartoon, say a Pixar film, and it has a joke that goes right over the childs head but you find it funny because you get it, are you going to say this film isn't for kids because it has humour you understand?

Yeah too be honest we just need to accept gaming isn't the most adult of hobbie. When we are into a format where the definition of adult is a space marine going round saying F this, F that. You know it ain't the most sophisticated of hobbies.
Oh well F**k it I love it.

In that gen the PSX was promoting its consoles in night clubs and stuff while Nintendo was pushing Mario and Pokemon down the throat of every kid in the country. I suppose it had Goldeneye but that was about it. There is no doubt it was percieved as the more childish console of the gen.

That's a daft comment to make, ask most people on this forum what their favourite 3 games ever are and I bet most will have a 2d game in their choice. Entertainment, games are made for entertainment, but this concept is a little lost nowadays.
Graphics is the main word, people want a lot in the graphic department. Graphics isn´t the most important, and like Dave said before, if the game is fun, is sufficient, at least for me.
And with this I enter in another point, critics:
People now wants, it seems, "perfect games".
The quality is important, but, too much? People start to argue about everything, even the most minimal issues, and maybe one minimal detail could ruin the experience of one, without reason.
But this goes, I think, with the preference of each one, there are persons more critics than others.
So, how have fun with a game that doesn´t have what I want?
To close, I play games for have fun and to have a good time enjoying them, I don´t look into details too much, becuase isn´t too important to me, to “me”.

When it gets to the point people argue over like....slightly different framerates, they need to get out more, when I fall through the floor, or stick to walls I'll get annoyed....but minor glitches are to be expected =]

People can be a little too picky. But, in terms of graphics the problem isn't having good graphics or not. The problem is that nowadays it's more and more used to hide severe gameplay problems. To me gameplay is more important than graphics any day of the week.
And besides there are lots of old games that while not being graphical bombs by nowadays standards, that still look good nowadays.

In retrospect, looking back at some games you see they've held their age quite well. Graphics isn't everything, but I'm fed up of hearing N fanboys shout that from the rooftops to cover up Nintendo's lazyness with the Hardware & Software (not a dig at you :P")
Wii Fit is just lies >:E it does not burn calories, certainly not as much or as well as a bit of regular exercise would.

There are several games that still look as good now as when they were released. Also the only fanboyism you'll probably see from me will be directed to either Sonic, NiGHTS or Klonoa ... but not much.:P
It's better to have a game with great graphics and solid gameplay. I just value gameplay more. In the graphics scene simple doesn't mean bad.
Well I'm happy with the Wii right now, if only because Atlus releaced Baroque in England finaly.

confirmed, you all love the Wii
XD I mean if you don't like it sell it, or why the hell did you bought it in first place, it was stated from the start that it wouldn't give you the same experience of the other consoles but something different.

I don't sell it because I generally like Nintendo games (when they get to making some that aren't training or party based), and I wasn't expecting this "different experience" to be stick waggling/waving that doesn't translate in the slightest to what's happening in game.

well that last would be fixed with the new "wii motion plus" that's going to be released soon....

It shouldn't have to be fixed, it's what the Wii was supposed to do in the first place.
Another problem with that is it basically just brought the Wii back to the start, so once again developers are going to be unfamilar with it and no doubt release more shovelware to see how it works.

Am I happy with the Wii? Huh... Yes. Yes, I think I am.
I've been a Nintendo-fan since the very first minute (don't mind my birth date, I played Mario when I was a Fetus ;P). I have all consoles of Nintendo, except the Virtual Boy and the Japanese Famicom-versions of NES and SNES.
Nintendo started to be in the hardware what Capcom has already been for long in the software branch: The innovative.
I bought the Wii - to be honest - for one major reason: Smash Bros. Brawl. But I got me some other games, of course. And most of them are pretty outside of the common series. I own no Zelda, for example. However, I love the ideas of so many games Nintendo (and others) created.
New Mario Kart, new Wario Land, new Smash Bros., new Super Mario, new WarioWare. Heck, all of these games are really cool.
And then there's offcourse titles like the Metal Slug Anthology, Megaman 9, Sonic Riders or the announced Klonoa remake.
Holy hell, YES!! <3

i'm with you I love online Mario Kart and SSBB, Warioware/Land and Mario Galaxy. And you get cool points from me for giving a shout out to Metal Slug Anthology, bloody awesome even if the remote only controls are wack. And as for Sonic Riders Zero Gravity despite the bad reviews I liked it but only with the GC pad because without it its crap.
Also you for got to add Metroid Prime 3, Mario & Sonic, Zack & Wiki, Ghost Squad, NiGHTS, RE4, De Blob, No More Heroes and Okami. Sure some of them are ports but then if they are still fun even with motion controls who gives a shit?

I don't hate the Wii, I'm just suffering from a lack of games to play on it.
That and I can save a whole £5 getting a Wii version. ;)

I happen to use my Wii more often, now that developers are treating the Wii respectfully. I play games like Samba de Amigo(fantastic use of two remotes) Mega Man 9, Virtual Console games, and Now that Wii games Will have DLC, i dont think ill rush out as fast to go get a 360 just for RB2 Or Guitar Hero.

Shame most of them require decent storage and I don't think Nintendo's current solution is good enough.

No it isn't, I'm waiting for a good use for those USB ports.
Well, if i continue downloading hits from past consoles on the VC, i am going to experience hard problems, as with the Samba cost took allmost the same blocks of data like SSBB, but still it's fun...
I owe you all a big SORRY if you felt like if i was protecting Nintendo at all cost, it's just that my friends are always talking about how the Xbox360 and PS3 are better, and about the things i said, they think that a hardcore game must be like that, so i was just trying to sound like them...Sorry ALL...Please forgive me
Apart for that, i must say that the Wii is good, not a 10/10, but it's ok and funny, and for me, it's all that matters, the fun!
It's funny because like the motionplus being able to read stuff directly from SDcards should have been available from launch, also doesn't the Wii have problems with anything more than 2GBs?
Those USB ports are totally useful since it's compatible with a USB keyboard, not like it has MSN or... any reason to use one.
Edit: Also when will Nintendo use a real measure of space? Blocks doesn't tell me shit, tell me how many GBs... sorry MBs I have left and how much saving most of these VC games on a SD card would take up.

Well, Nintendo is Trying to fix things,
but what i think, is that by the time the Wii is actually Awesome(Plenty of storage space, awesome games, dlc, good online play, ETC.) We might get a new nintendo console. its pointless to do all these things,(unless you can port EVERYTHING)

opera browser maybe?
you can get in eBuddy from there and use MSN in your wii, there, keyboard problem solved :)

But honestly, Everyone complains about the storage problem when its not that big a deal. There are plenty of options like Ridding of the channels on the home and just get them when you wanna play them, and save the memory on an SD. Or you can just not be dumb and dont buy and download shit loads of VC, WiiWare, and channels. Clean out your memory if there is a game or two that you havent played and dont plan to in the future, Like lets say Wii sports or something. just delete the save file.
Solve the problem your self and stop bitching to Nintendo. Yes they messed up bad. But they went for simplicity and innovation with the Wii. Not the next 360.

How is having to dick about ininstalling stuff and reinstalling stuff, since it doesn't yet read directly off a SD card, simplicity and innovation? It's not.
The Wii has alot of pretty decent stuff up on VC and WiiWare, hell it probably has more going for it then what you can buy in shops.

Have you ever tryed super mario galaxy or Zelda? Those are some good games and there is a new one comming out a shooter with good expactions for shooter fans.

when you speak on the graphics side of things i personally think if game develpers actually gave a danm about making a GOOD game then they would try and make use of ALL the Wii has to offer....but there are some things they could have added, like a CD player or the ability to play VCDs, but as far as the memory thing goes they should give us the ability to use those USB ports to connect external memory devices. ....nintendo make such great consoles thises days but they never use their full potential. but i guess if the did push themselves to the limit then they would suffer simailar issues to X360 and the PS3 ..(Cough)..overheating..(Cough)..XD

The PS3 does not over-heat XD ever, the 360...well...it helps during the winter XD
I'm not sure why nintendo doesn't do these things, they come across very arrogantly...Microsoft & Sony are desperate to please their customers, yeah it takes forever, but they do eventually add in changes that have been asked for, Nintendo just seem to ignore all the problems.

Because they know there are enough idiots who will buy any old rubbish as long as it has a pokemon character in it. They probably wouldn't have survived the disaster of the N64 else.
