View Full Version : Radio Sega Questions to help with a new FAQ
OK these are questions that are related to or may just be in an up and coming FAQ... Lets see how far they go:
This is RadioSEGA, right? Why is there forums for Nintendo, XBOX and Playstation. And why do XBOX and Playstation have to live together?
Who runs RadioSEGA?
How long has RadioSEGA been around?
Wasn't there another web site called RadioSEGA?
What are the goals of this web site? To focus on Sega Music and foster the community that enjoys it?
The current FAQ acknowledges that the conneciton limit is 10 users concurrently. If and when this is exceeded, will RadioSEGA need to get funding for more bandwith? Will this funding come from banner ads?
RadioSEGA has a hefty Sonic theme. Does this mean that there is favortism toward Sonic in some aspects of the site?
Does RadioSEGA welcome remixed Sega tunes?
Does RadioSEGA welcome Sega audio that did not come from a Sega game?
How did the existing song collection come to be?
How can I tell I am not sending you songs you already have received when submitting new songs?
Technically, how does RadioSEGA work? Is it all based on out of the box ShoutCast server features, or is there more custom scripting glue in there?
Whom is working on development for RadioSEGA's various content and how are new features approved for development?I'm sure there are more to come, but this should be a good start to help me understand things as well as have some fodder for the FAQ.
Just in case it wasn't obvious... This isn't just a list of questions. I'm hoping to hear back from an admin (*cough*) on answers.

Are we allowed to post more questions to add to the list?
If so...: Do you intend on adding skins to the RadioSEGA forums in the future?
Are there plans for clans or any community events?

I'm no admin but I can at least answer some of these questions.
OK these are questions that are related to or may just be in an up and coming FAQ... Lets see how far they go:
This is RadioSEGA, right? Why is there forums for Nintendo, XBOX and Playstation. And why do XBOX and Playstation have to live together?- Because not including them is asking for trouble.
Who runs RadioSEGA?- Segamark, sometimes also called Kidderz.
How long has RadioSEGA been around?- At least a year I'd say. Maybe two
Wasn't there another web site called RadioSEGA?- Not to my knowledge. Though the site has had at least one massive redesign you may be confusing it with
What are the goals of this web site? To focus on Sega Music and foster the community that enjoys it?- It was originally a board for all things SEGA. The Radio part came later but became the focus. Not sure what Direction Mark wants to take it now.
The current FAQ acknowledges that the conneciton limit is 10 users concurrently. If and when this is exceeded, will RadioSEGA need to get funding for more bandwith? Will this funding come from banner ads?- Er ask Mark
RadioSEGA has a hefty Sonic theme. Does this mean that there is favortism toward Sonic in some aspects of the site?- Well you have to remember that Sonic is a big part of SEGA and the music for the games is as much unique as the theme behind the Hedgehog. It's easy to think it has an emphasis because it stands out as a Signature of SEGA in a way.
Does RadioSEGA welcome remixed Sega tunes?- Last time I checked no. Hence no Project Chaos and Hedgehog Heaven despite both being awesome
Does RadioSEGA welcome Sega audio that did not come from a Sega game?- Yes and no. Generally any game that was exclusive to a SEGA system counted. So that would be Soul Calibur for example. But I think Mark's thinking of making it more strict in future.
How did the existing song collection come to be?- Extensive downloading through FTP I believe. Mark and I have shared the odd site for downloading stuff.
How can I tell I am not sending you songs you already have received when submitting new songs?- Besides checking the full list I dunno. You'll organise it with Mark anyway and he'll know what's missing.
Technically, how does RadioSEGA work? Is it all based on out of the box ShoutCast server features, or is there more custom scripting glue in there?- Another one that only Mark can answer
Whom is working on development for RadioSEGA's various content and how are new features approved for development?- Mark's doing it alone as far as I can tell. He does ask me for my opinion a fair few times but more or less it's all Mark.
I'm sure there are more to come, but this should be a good start to help me understand things as well as have some fodder for the FAQ.

For some reason the server is being a bitch and my reply won't post due to a 406 error... Odd. I've just lost everything I've wrote too. I'll redo it tomorow, I need a cigarette!

Well I can see already one thing that is causing a freak out. Master Hunter "quoted" me and then "modified" what "I" said. For me, I can't quote that post correctly with the quote feature (had to do it manually), I suspect because of the modified quote.
Thanks for some of the answers, but of course they bring up a few more questions and comments...

So how did Segata Sanshiro qualify for RadioSEGA? I don't recall that being in any Sega game.
How can I tell I am not sending you songs you already have received when submitting new songs?- Besides checking the full list I dunno. You'll organise it with Mark anyway and he'll know what's missing.
That sounds inefficient. Everybody, copy your entire video game MP3 collection and have Mark sort out the ones he doesn't have and likes... (just kidding). I see a song submit page in the works (at least going in as an enhancement request once I figure out where on earth I'm putting Bugzilla)...
Whom is working on development for RadioSEGA's various content and how are new features approved for development?- Mark's doing it alone as far as I can tell. He does ask me for my opinion a fair few times but more or less it's all Mark.
Ouch. Well hopefully my own little projects (including some things I plan on coding) will help out. Sounds like me on my own forum--I do it all myself too.

Segata Sanshiro had his own game. :P
Soundtrack submission, PM me with a list of what games and I know what I have. I'll never add an upload page, ever, it'll get abused -- and anyway, I hand out temporary accounts to people to access ftp.upload.radiosega.net which allows people to upload via FTP, at least with FTP you can resume. :)

Is it just me or did the colors of the site change this afternoon?
Maybe I'm going color blind, but the whole forums seemed to turn silver instead of blue.
Anyhoo, about skins, I think it would be nice to be able to change the colors and design of the forums to our preference. i.e. A dark purple and black NiGHTS theme, a yellow and red Samba theme, etc....

Sure you're not on the drugs? I've not changed a thing!
I'm looking into selectable skins, basically just to change the colour between Blue/Orange/Purple etc. That will be something done last in the future. I've got far too many projects on at the moment. :(
Segata Sanshiro had his own game. :P
And so he does (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Segata_Sanshirou_Shinken_Yuugi). I really need to brush up on my DreamCast/Saturn. Until SegaMark mentioned it, I didn't realize they were still making DreamCast games (ever so slowly).

How about meeting half way to remove some of the human element in finding out if a song is coming or submitting one... How about a page where its just collects data in a database of songs that people want to hear on RadioSega and an administrator has to change the status to either "I need a copy", "Coming Soon", "Currently Available" or "Denied" status. Users can then cast either a thumbs up or down vote on proposed songs. This feed back can assist the administrator in selecting music. This feature would be for registered users only of course.

It's a time issue, and it sounds like more work for nothing really, I've always found the email/private message then FTP it way of going about it works.
I might in future make a sticky for anything I can't find asking people if they have it, the proposed songs will use a lot of time and would need a lot of user input. When I update the playlist, I tend to add hundreds of songs at a time.
Unless I got that all wrong.
Then again, my brain is starting to wear out. Haha.

Hmmm. Is time the largest factor? Would you use the "Request a Song to be Added to the master playlist" feature if I coded it (and it was coded right of course)? I think I can code it without any administrative access to your systems.

Yeah I think that perhaps the forum hasn't grown large enough to overwhelm you with tracking all of that. I can't imagine how many times you've been asked "When will Sonic 2006 sound track be added?"...
Then again, my brain is starting to wear out. Haha.
Yes soon enough, Microsoft will have a solution for that too... LOL

I've only been asked once via email infact. I've got it ready to add in Easter during the huge tracklist update!
