Tec Toy Brazil (the official SEGA distributor in Brazil) is releasing a brand new SEGA system, the Mega Drive 3, with 86 built-in games. It does lack a cartridge slot, but features include: 2 controller ports, and includes 2 3 button controllers (oddly enough, Tec toys new Master system has 6 button pads).
The big news here however, is that four of the 86 games are brand new. Tec Toy licensed rights from EA to port four of EA’s mobile phone games onto the Mega Drive. The games are: Fifa 2008, Need For Speed, Sim City and Sims 2.

That's pretty interesting. I've always wanted SimCity on the Genesis, though a 20 year wait is a bit much. :) I wonder when more details regarding pricing and ordering will be available.

The hell? They must really be lacking ideas to sell something in Brazil... not that I have anything against them but... releasing such hardware nowadays... I just find really weird to see a Need For Speed on Genesis for an example.

These kind of things sell really well in Brazil. They have quite a thriving bootleg scene in old consoles.

Didn't Sonic Blast only get released in Brazil?

Is this the thing that some people were hoping would be a remarketed Dreamcast? Still, I suppose it's good to see new Sega Hardware in one form or antother. Sega fans must take any crumbs of comfort they can these days.

I'd like to try one of those things out.. It's either gonna be a big flop, going to be canceled, or going to be really cool..Not sure what though.

Yeah, that was the Master System version. The Game Gear version was released everywhere, I found it weird that in Japan it was called 'G Sonic'
God bless Tec Toy. Brazil is probably the only place in the world where people still really give a damn about Sega.

That's very surprising and welcoming news. When I saw the '4 new Sega Genesis games' headline, I assumed they would be independently developed games, but seeing how the Sims 2 and Need for Speed are getting a 16-bit translation, that admittedly sounds very interesting.
Can't wait to see screenshots of those games! =D
Looks good, shame its only in Brazil

one curiously thing...
The last real released game in genesis, official, was in brazil, and it was "Who wants to be a millionaire?". There were two versions, one in 2000, and the other in 2001, so, you can imagine how Brazil loves SEGA.
AH! And remember that Street fighter II for Master System was ported by Tec Toys too.
I love those guys, they have many balls to keep the Sega dream alive... :)

Before anyone gets over-the-moon excited, could I please remind you all about
a) The problems inherent on running such old tech on modern TVs and such. I need only point you to some of the other threads on this forum to highlight that.
b) That RD did just mention a bootleg market... which can't be good.
c) That the majority of these games are (or should be) available elsewhere, probably with better compatability and quality. Unless they're really obscure games... but more often that not, they're obscure for a reason, if you catch my drift.
d) It's in Brazil. Is it really, REALLY worth the effort, especially as it may not even work at all in many other countries?
Sorry to be so pesemistic about it, but it just doesn't look that appealing to me.
Edit: And I also just realised that this thread has been commanded to RISE FROM ITS GRAVE and rescue - no, wait, it's not really doing anything.
