View Full Version : Phantasy Star Portable
Okay this perhaps very old news, I did a search and found nothing.
During my monthly psp updating I stumbled across a new Japanese demo for Phantasy Star Portable! I had heard news of the DS version, but this is the first I've heard of a PSP version, is there any news on a PAL release?
I'm so psyched, its basically a form of Phantasy Star Universe with extras added from the expansion pack
Some screenshots look absolutley amazing, with a big screen and good graphics this could well be the best game to grace PSP, I'll update with thoughts after the 300mb demo is downloaded :P

Wow.
I've just sat down and played through some of the demo, first off its more like a full game than a demo, utterly massive :D
You start off creating a character, obviously its all in Japanese but its fairly simple to figure out what's what, there's a very good ammount of customization avaliable, I can tell I'd be playing through several times as different classes...
Hopefully its taking its time getting here due to voice-overs, the first thing you notice in story mode is that no you can't walk around the space station, you select areas and characters to talk to, but 80% of the time they actually talk, rather than just static text on the screen which is really cool :P
Combat is just exactly the same as PSU, I was worried about the control layouts but they suit the PSP perfectly, moving with the analogue, L centres the camera meaning its very easy to explore areas.
Graphics look gorgeous, playing through various areas its easy to forget that you're playing a PSP and not a 360.
All in all you really need to DL the demo XD is no one moderatley hyped for this? After the complete lack of all other titles? Come on!
Its a certain import for me, but I'll hold off and hopefully hear word of an english version

Rayne you make a good advertising person.
I would like this game now, sounds quite exciting and I hope we get an English version as more voice acting sounds good.

Thank you XD
The japanese voice acting is superb...not that I can understand much of it, even if bad english casts are chosen, its a nice change to hear voices rather than read walls of text.

I don't have anything against static screens but it would be a nice change.
SEGA has confirmed PSP game Phantasy Star Portable is getting a European release.
It's set just after the events of Phantasy Star Universe and sees you teaming up with new character Vivienne. You'll have to "investigate an outbreak of wild animals that may possess the remnants of a once-powerful malevolent force", which should be fun.
There are three class types and four races to choose from, plus more than 150 new weapons and items. Up to four-players can enjoy the co-op mode via the PSP's wireless connection.
Phantasy Star Portable is out here next spring.
Thought that might interest people.

I've always wanted to play PSO. I nearly got it but just before it came out my mum got the first phone bill since I got my dreamcast and she banned me from playing it online. I was well gutted. It was a really big bill though.

Then I'd recommend Blue Burst on PC, PSP (haha) is limited to Wireless with no online option =/ Why did Capcom and SEGA make ORPGs for the PSP while totally ignoring it's online capabilities?

Ah, thank you!
Canīt wait then :D the demo was fantastic, the PSP really needs mroe Co-op games, Iīm playing through Killzone with a friend & its a blast, hopefully thisīll rock too
Was brilliant news that this game is coming to the western audience. Thought about importing it but dropped the idea as soon as I heard the news. Can't wait to get my hands on this one!

I've been playing it non-stop for days...Is the Jap demo multi-player? I spent hours attempting to set up a match....single player is a meaty demo too, lasted a good hour....more than that if you count the ammount of conversations you skip through XP
I'll probably be importing when its released in the US, I'm too impatient to wait for an EU release
