Considering that this is RadioSEGA, and this is the Dreamcast forum, why not chime in and give your choices for your top 3 favorite Dreamcast musical masterpieces?! After each, try to elaborate on how the music effected you. Heres mine.
1. REZ (This game is all about music. Sometimes you cant figure out whether the soundtrack in this one is driving you or you driving it. It's thumping trance rythms will hypnotize and numb you for hours.)
2. Shenmue 1 & 2 (An epic title requires epic music to pervade the mood of the given environment at the time. These titles, which I consider 2 parts of an unfinished single game, have a soundtrack that has more emotional effect than most of what hollywood can put out these days, and in my humble opinion rival the works of John Williams.)
3. Ikaruga (This is the only title I'm personally aware of that has a soundtrack entirely driven by the onboard hardware, not relying on redbook or yellowbook pcm. It truly shows what the system is capable of in sound reproduction.)

I think I've seen that username before. Do you post on gamefaqs?
My favorite soundtrack is probably Virtua Fighter 3. I dunno why, fits the mood I suppose, upbeat, varied and dynamic, plus it reminds me of when I first got my console.

No, cant say I ever have posted on the gamefaqs forums. Guess it must be someone else, which is odd because I have never seen anyone use this name before. I have to agree, VF3 does have a nice soundtrack. Good one!

To this day, I still cant understand the logic behind Sega changing the Sonic CD soundtrack for the US market. I'm with you, the US version was not "terrible" but it sure wasnt as good as the PAL and JP version. Although, the ending version of "Sonic Boom" in the US version still sends a chill down my spine. Good song... IMO.

In a list of top to bottom, here are my top 3 DC soundtracks:
Three words: Sonic Adventure 2. Well, one of them was a number but y'know... Anyhow, there is really nothing that can be said about this OST, apart from the fact that it rocks my socks whatever the situation. That said, I have a strong love for SA1 as well. Now, everybody sing... "Live and learn!"
Call me sad but I have thisthing for the Chu-Chu Rocket! soundtrack. I keep on whizzing back to that when I get bored; There's something about it which I love, and it stops me from going insane after long periods of exposure to homework!
My third and final choice was a difficult one, but in the end I find that Jet Set Radio is one of the gaming worlds best choices for funk! I can't resist humming them on the tube, even when the other passangers stare at me like "what the hell"...

Looking back, a lot of Dreamcast games had amazing soundtracks. Picking three was really hard.
1. Jet Set Radio - I've been listening to the OST pretty much non stop for about ten years. Excellent mix of electro and funk.
2. Rez - A huge part of what makes Rez amazing is the music. Psychedelic tecnho weirdness. I love it.
3 - Space Channel 5 - Kina similar to the Jet Set Radio soundtrack. Just not as good. It's still incredibly upbeat and catchy though.
Honorable mentions: Crazy Taxi 1 + 2, Shenmue 1 +2, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure.
