This weeks choice is by Schezo and is the (I think excellent) Castlevania:Bloodlines/ New generation. Released in 94. It Stars 2 new characters. The first is John Morris, The regular whip man who can swing across certain gaps with his weapon and John Morris who use a Spear and has A super jump ability which enables them both to take different routes at certain intervals through the game. One point to mention is if you want to try the game. Get the Jap or australian version. as in the other versions all blood was removed.

Oh man this game. THIS GAME! I wouldn't say it's the best Castlevania (that would probably be Rondo of Blood) it's certainly damn close, adding an extra character to change the gameplay slightly (well III did this aswell but whatever) was an awesome feature.

Man... This game. I believe there's a Screw Attack thingy on this aswell.

Oh and there's an error in the OP John Morris is only 1 character :P

XD Thanks for that. I'll change it now.

This is one of my faves for the mega drive and probably my favourite old style Castlevania. SOTN is probably my fave overall.

Bloodlines and the PC Engine Chi no Rondo are my two favs of the classic CV series (Never liked Super CV4 for some reason) so this sure is a 5 from me.

The music is marvelous in bloodlines. Michiru Yamane composed what i think is some of the best tracks in the entire series.

Im the same. I liked Castle 4, I didn't really have a problem with it but I don't think it deserved the praise that it got. I prefered this anyway. And yor right the soundtrack is excellent.

This has to be the best Retro choice so far :P

Fantastic game, great to have an excuse to go back and play it again

Best Castlevania game has to be Symphony of the night though >_<

Castlevania Bloodlines is a Sega Genesis classic no doubt about it. Awesome graphics, excellent music & gameplay that kicks @$$. My favorite character is Eric Lecarde because of he's invincible jump.

Theres only 6 levels to the game so I might just do a level a day and put down what I thought of em.

I like how both of the characters in this game have pretty much disappeared from the Castlevania world. Until Portrait of Ruin which had Jonathan (Charlotte!) Morris.

Poor Eric Ricardo/Lechance (so he's spanish yet the localization team decided on Lechance?) not only did he get the short end of the stick on weapon in Bloodlines (seriously who plays Castlevania to spear Dracula? The whip is more important than the Belmonts), but his only return is in a fighter thats reported to be shit? Poor poor guy.

Edit: And he still doesn't derserve to have his name in the OP. :(

Just played the through the first level of this last night, it's like an homage to the first level of about half of the earlier castlevania games. Nice music for the first level and this is a nice easy introduction to the game. First level boss is a evil knight looking fella. ( I assume he's evil, could be he just has problems at home but it never elaborates) he has a pretty simple forward attack then just jumps over your head/repeat. easy enough. Goona do level 2 tonight, Greece, I love the water effect on this level where it reflects everything your doing.

Half of the earlier Castlevanias would have been 1.5 =/ Unless Super Castlevania IV came out first.

I think I got to Greece and that's as far as I got on my last playthrough.

It's a very nice game. Of course it would probably be more enjoyable if I didn't suck at it. But, anyways, it's a good game that I'll do my best to beat it.

I've never really played any of the pre Symphony of the Night Castlevania games, although I did try to buy a game called Vampire's Kiss a few years ago, but it cost too much so gave it a miss in the end. I'll give this one a go later, I suppose it's seasonal at least.

Probably a good job you didn't get vampires kiss. It would of put you off the castle games for life, it's awful.

A wise choice, Vampires Kiss was my first Castlevania and put me off the series for a long time, but going back and playing the older ones quickly made me change my mind.

Edit: Beaten but glad I'm not the only one who thought Vampires Kiss was awful.

I forgot, I finished this over the weekend. I well enjoyed it ( though I did cheat and use the save and load states on gens) I just love goin through this now and again. There's parts of it that still impress me graphically on this. I gave this a 5.
