This weeks choice is by Mr rayne and is Super R-type on the Super Nintendo. Here's the obligatry info:

Developed and published by Irem (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irem) in 1991, during the system's launch. It is the only non-canon release in the R-Type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-Type) franchise. It is a semi-port of both R-Type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-Type) and R-Type II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-Type_II) (mostly inclined towards the latter) with some variations. The game was re-released for Wii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii) Virtual Console (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Console) in North America on March 17 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_17), 2008 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008).[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_R-Type#cite_note-0)
It is known for its high difficulty (even compared to other games in the series), particularly because of its lack of checkpoints, since dying means restarting the level from scratch. Also, this game suffers from slowdown, which was also a problem in many third-party SNES launch games (including Gradius III (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gradius_III)). But unlike the others Super R-Type slows down to virtual standstill when there are many things on the screen. However, it was useful for players when there were too many shots because it was easier to avoid them. When many enemies are dispatched and the game jumps (without warning) to full speed, players are fooled into accidentally running the ship into a hazard, resulting in instant death and return to the beginning of the stage.

I have to re-play this game and make a honest point of view. I havenīt played this game in months.

I take advantage of the slowdown, isnīt really a problem. (with me at least)
Easily you can evade the shots if the moment becomes really complicated. Altough this doesnīt help to improve your skill.

When many enemies are dispatched and the game jumps (without warning) to full speed, players are fooled into accidentally running the ship into a hazard, resulting in instant death and return to the beginning of the stage.

And the most annoying and fool moment in the game, before that might happen, I have my mind completely ready to try to avoid it.

I have played this but not in quite awhile as I honestly didn't remember the slowdown on it. I'll check it out.

It doesnīt happens always, rarely for me as I remember.

I always liked to pretend the slowdown was deliberate as it added an extra layer to the strategy :P R-Types on the Playstation was a much better port though.

The R-Type series in general is one I've always enjoyed, especially with friends, give yourselves twently lives and take turns during each death, you'll be at each other's throats in minutes :P

Never played Super R-Type, but i did have R-Type... 2 I think on the original Gameboy, I loved that game even though I sucked at it.

Gave this a try last night but I haven't bought a new pad for my pc yet since mine broke. I didn't get far playing a schump with a keyboard.

Not a fan of Horis at all usually, but this game I do prefer slightly to Gradius at least.

Also, can I pick a game at some point?

That's pretty weird that you ask that. I pick the names out of a cup and I just picked yours out then I noticed your message. You psychic?
