Im a pretty big movie fan aswel as a bit of a gamer so I thought this would be an obvious thread to open up just to talk about any new films you've rented or watched in the cinema. Any favourites you have that you feel you should share. yada yada you get the picture, you know what to do.
I've rented the new indiana jones movie and Wanted, the Angelina jolie action one. Quite liked Wanted. The action is so over the top, but in a good way. Indy was pretty good but it has a aliens story to it which I weren't really keen on.
As i've started a movie thread I should point out, evertone should go out and buy Oldboy. It's great.
The last film I went to see was "Quantum of Solace". What an utter pile of crap! I mean, for starters if I had accidently wandered into the screening it could have been the Bourne identity for all I know as it just doesn't feel like a Bond film. So dissapointed...-_-

I watched Rat Race last week. Funny film (How couldn't it be with John Cleese and Rowan Atkinson?) but the ending is rubbish.

I really didn't like the new Indiana jones film. That curly haired yop needed a foot to the face. Oldboy was good but a bit sick. Could only come from the east, something with a twist like that!

I saw Quantam of Solace on Black Friday and Thanksgiving Day and it was a good action film, although the plot was a little bit messy because it relied too much on Casino Royale. I forgot peoples names and was totally lost in many of the scenes the first time around. I really love the scenery of the movie though, makes me want to go to Italy for my next vacation.

I watched the invasion last night on Sky movies. It's another re-make of invasion of the body snatchers with Nicole Kidman and Daniel craig in it. It was pretty good actually for it's genre.

I saw the Highly anticipated in the US film, Twilight the night it came into theaters. If you saw the movie alone, you might not have liked it more than the book based fans.(if you like Vampire Romance)The acting was bad too, the lead vampire tried to put on an american accent, but his accent always slipped out during the film. Also, Kristin Stewarts over acting made it just bad to watch.
Overall, it wasn't a terrible movie, but it could've been made so much better. Leave this movie for the fans.

I just watched a ton of old comedy movies on DVDs, like Airplane!, Little Miss Sunshine, Napoleon Dynamite, Kung Pow!: Enter the Fist, and Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle.
I don't think I saw many new movies this year. There were a ton that I would've like to have seen, but I never got around to it, like Pineapple Express to name one. I fill that empty void with old movies like the ones stated above.

That was an epic characterization failure. They should at least see the characters models. It could work as an action movie, but as a Street Fighter movie ... the last one at least had the characters right.

This just looks like they've made a random low budget straight to dvd action flick and stuck the Street fighter name on it. It really does amaze me after all the poor reviews and critical comments over the last movie they go and do this.

It seems we live in an illogical world, where half-baked ideas are kings.
Yes but all that Street Fighter that makes the games wouldn't work! (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/no-ryu-or-ken-for-street-fighter-film)

I think it could work as long as they keep it firmly in the fantasy world that it is and not try and "keep it real" while at the same time everyone's hadouken everyone. To be honest though i'd really struggle to think of a good cast for a street fighter movie.
That guy out of Black eyed peas being vega infuriates me.

Lets see if you all can read all this XD
I saw Indiana Jones4 in the theaters and it was good, not as good as i thought it would be. I think its better than temple of doom, but compared to the other two films not even close to being as good as those. And by watching it you can see George Lucas fingerprints were everywhere in the damn film! Which i hated. And the ending from the Alien to the credits i hated.
The Dark Knight was great, not alot of action but i really loved the story i think this film is one of or the best batman film, even better than the original by Tim Burton.
Right now i just finished watching Resident Evil Degeneration. This one is actually best fit for a movie based on a game.( i guess because it was in CGI) WAY better than those live action resident evil movies. I was never a big fan of resident evil. I personality HATE all the games(No Offense XD) EXCEPT Resident Evil 2 cause i loved the atmosphere of Racoon City, but number 3 and 4 i hated the others were ehh. But anyway this film was related closely to #2 so i liked it.
Last is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I thought i wouldnt like it but when i came out of the theaters i loved it! XD weird huh? I recommend everyone to see it. The one thing i hated was that i was kinda TO long. almost 3 hours x.x
but i loved it, its was a real mood swinger though, its makes you sad then happy, angry, sad again, funny, happy, sad again etc.
I hate to admit this, i actually cried when i came out of the theaters :( and i NEVER cry in movies but (Dont want to give out spoilers) i just hated the baby parts that was in the begining and the end. I hate the thought of babys dieing or how parents treat them, so the father act in the begining made me teary eye and the end just punched me in the gut. Very good though!!!
If you do watch it look out for the lighting man in the movie, BEST character in te movie lol You'll see who i mean :)

I recently saw Iron Man & Indiana Jones.
Iron Man I quite enjoyed really, couldn't find much wrong with it apart from the last major fight scene ended too quickly for me.
Indiana Jones was not what I expected. I mean aliens in an Indiana movie just doesn't quite fit.
P.S. I read all of that post.

Oh god, its descended into an anime topic already!
And to contribue something relevant, I've watched Duel and Jaws on the Speilberg theme nights ITV3 (or maybe its ITV4) are showing. Seen 'em countless times before but they always seem to entertain. Quint from Jaws is probably the coolest hollywood character after Daniel Plainview. In my head anyway.
Firefly is a TV series Mr Bread :P not an anime.

Had a lazy sunday watching the weekly Bond film on channel 3 yesterday, For Your Eyes Only. Amazing film, probably my favourite out of Moore's Bonds. So many good set pieces, the film rattles along with hardly any boring parts in it. A far cry from the last Bond I watched, the rubbish A View To A Kill.
And I saw the first Red Riding but missed the second. I'm guessing it will be repeated ad nauseum with it being on Channel 4 though. Looked good, especially liked the nutter intent on local domination that Sean Bean was playing.
I'm guessing it will be repeated ad nauseum with it being on Channel 4 though.
I'm not so sure about that, I know Channel 4 have a habit of doing that but I don't think they've repeated any of the three parts yet, and it's out on DVD in a couple of weeks.

Indeed, that sounds all too inevitable. They fill you up with American sitcoms 'till you feel like you've gorged on on too many MacDonalds supersized meals, but a decent drama will lost in the murky depths of 4 OnDemand, never to be seen again.
Sounds like what the masterminds at C4 will do :P

They had one of the Channel 4 producers on Richard Bacon's radio show the other week, can't remember his name but he was apparently the guy behind a bunch of their reality shows like Big Brother amongst other things, and he was the most tedious cliche of modern youth you could possibly imagine.
He seemed to be in his 20s and was going on about all these 'random' ideas he had, he made all his own funny t-shirts for instance, and got his job by sending his C.V on a pizza to the Chanel 4 bosses. I wouldn't mind, but it all felt so contrived and inane.
It certainly made the current dire situation of most of the channel's programming seem like nothing more than the logical consequence of pandering to teen culture and idiots like him.

You seem almost surprised by that. That's what Channel 4's always been about, and shows like Skins and 90210 are the glorified version of "real life" and that's apparently what the youth of today are into. Sex and drugs and rock n roll. Come tomorrow there'll be something different.
Sex and drugs and rock n roll.
But that is what the majority of today's youth are into. Well, replace "rock n roll" with "shitty R'n'B/Pop shite", and you're sorted.

Hey, it's only IGN UK that said the film was shit, and gave it 2/5, which is oh-so-nearly 50%.
One point up for Da Vinci Code is nothing to rave about. I'm just glad they fixed his Billy Ray Cyrus.
Well IGN US have reviewed it as well now, and they did give it 50%, which is definately a mark up from their review of Da Vinci Code.
I dunno what IGN UK would've made of DVC, they didn't review it unfortunately.

The Fith Element 2 (or would that be the Sith element?) would ended up being a blemish on the great original and doomed to run on some godforsaken ITV channel alongside Robocop 3 and Nightmare on Elm Street 7 :P personally I would have liked to see how a sequel would have been done but I wouldn't have wanted it to actually be done.
Speaking of Robocop 3 I just watched it...I can't tell if it's so bad it's good, or it's so bad it's terrible.

Just watched Constantine again. Some cool parts. Also watched Starship Troopers again after a long time. Wow, that movie is ridiculous.
I also watched robocop last night and thought "what a pile of steaming doodie!"-_- I haven't seen the first one (on my list of movies to watch) but I have seen the second one which hilarious just becase it has children firing guns, taking drugs and swearing like a fisherman's wife!XD

'Cept it's not that modern at all anymore. Brilliant film, that Opera scene is still the best scene in a film ever with brill music.
The Taxi cab on Perfect Dark was modeled after the one on Fifth Element. Surprisingly I really liked the game on PC, loved using the super weapon.
Multipass!
Speaking of Robocop 3 I just watched it...I can't tell if it's so bad it's good, or it's so bad it's terrible.
God I thought Robocop 3 was shit, for some weird reason my mate thinks its awesome and way better then Robocop 2. WTF:blink:

Constantine was a pretty cool film. "This is Constantine, John Constantine, asshole".

Yeah that bit was epic except when it all suddenly went all techno but the cuts between the concert and the fights was a nice touch.
Regarding the comments to RoboCop 3, it was alright. Not as good as the first one, and definately not as good as the second (although the second one in itself wasn't exactly brilliant either), but seeing as I got it as part of a trilogy boxset, I can't complain too much.
The way I see it, I paid a fiver for RoboCop and got the two sequels for free.

That's a good way to look at it :P I do the same for the Alien movies, paid about 6 quid for Alien & Aliens and got the other two thrown in to use as coasters.
But bleh, I'll need to watch the other two Robocop movies when I can :D number 3 wasn't terrible, if you take it as a totally stupid movie and laugh at it, you can have fun.

Also, I wanted to share some trailers of upcoming movies in case you didn't know about them. I didn't know how to link to youtube without it automatically embedding so sorry about the overdose here:

The Last Airbender

Anybody watch Avatar on Nickelodeon? I thought it was a really good cartoon and I found it surprising that M. Night Shamalan has picked up the movie. Might be interesting to see what happens.

This discussion of The Ring has got me thinking; why does Hollywood make remakes of Asian horror films or fancy French films but it never happens the other way around?
Hollywood remake foreign films to present them to a wider audience, the foreign stuff has some awesome ideas but occasionally lousy execution.
Hollywood movies are corny and to remake them you'd probably need to pay a crapload in license fees, something that wouldn't really be recovered, even if it was a hit in Japan.

So no different to the Hollywood remakes then.

Not really, but rather than being just lousy, Hollywoo also manages to be unfaithful to the source material, that pisses off fans :P

Remake is actually American for Americanise. Let's face it they even suck at remaking their own stuff (though to be fair Micheal Bay is a shit director and Transformers was practically an anime anyway).

American remakes suck arse. More often than not there exactly the same as there foreign counterparts, they've just re-made them so americans don't have to read subtitles, which in itself is just retarded. There was nothing wrong with the original grudges, rings and all the other jap horror films and there not even old. There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to remake any of them except to change the foreign people in them to americans so they can "identify" with them more. It's just pandering to idiots.

I did Sound harsh but I do think the Americans that make the remakes unnnecesarily pander to the American public. As you say about the office even. I mean the original is filmed in the english language, it's completely nonsensical to remake it again but with americans in unless they just can't even deal with different accents. I mean tell me if im mental and there's a really good explanation for why it's done but I just don't get it.

Okay, let's get the 2 sides of this movie sorted:
The Humans: Stupid. Yet, despite that, they INSTINCTIVELY (or at least, the black guy - yeah, they made a racist comment about spears too) know to shoot them in the head. Despite utterly failing and flapping about like nancies, as soon as it comes to escaping, they all turn into fscking ninjas and take on the entire fscking horde of super zombies. In a pond.
The Zombies: Transform almost instantly - decay and all. Super intelligent - they drag victims away. Leap about like spiderman. Eat themselves. Die at random. Powers alter at random - sometimes they can crawl along the ceiling like wretches (even jumping straight vertically and sticking there), other times can barely jump 2 feet. Explode when set on fire (O.o).
This is the MOST fscked up zombie movie. Ever.
Edit: Hang on, did I just miss something? Did that kid just KNOW one of the 3 people was infected? What?! Can he fscking smell it or something!??! WTF!?
Oh... my god... I can't take much more of this. The zombies... do as they're told if you shout at them loud enough. Unless it's 'cos he's black - the racism continues (not to mention the machette scene).
Oh for... somebody please, take over for me, I can't rant any more. This movie is beyond awful to such a point that even I cannot describe how bad it is. I'd rather watch the Hands of Fate. At least that would be funny.
OK, it has one redeeming point: They seem to be paying homage to Bub by having a "good" zombie soldier. I'll watch it, just to see what they do with him. He better do something amazing.

The funniest bit for me was when the zombie hand comes out of the water. I knew it was coming but when it happened my mum jumped (She's a secret fan who uses me as an excuse to go and see the films) and that caused me to jump; quickly enough a wave of people jumping in their seats spread across the cinema, originating from the spot where me and my parents were sat.
Well, it made me laugh.

Some bits of the Harry Potter movie were funny like when Harry and Hermoine were at some special party, and the guy that like Hermoine was looking for her and started to eat some weird food and Harry mentioned they were dragon balls, HAHA! And then he threw up, lol. Other scenes in the movie didn't make sense though, such as when Harry and Malfoy were fighting and it looked like Harry killed him and then Snape walked in and Harry walked off...I was like wtf? And then right after that, Harry and Ginny had a random scene involving getting rid of the book of the half-blood prince.
Oh well. I just can't wait for the two-part epic finale where the real stuff happens!

As for FD:3D (which sounds like something of star wars), i recall the saying "Wide screen TV? Why do you want wide screen? It's the same crap, just wider!" Only, y'know, replace wide with 3D, etc...
And on the subject of HP: http://www.nodignity.com/freaks/nqm/nqm1.html I normally think all HP fanfiction should be destroyed in hellfire, but this is the ONLY exception I have found so far. Barring a couple of mistakes (notably the message in black in chapter 1) at most, it's epic.

That doesn't sound like Dragonball at all, it can't be easy to fit all the screaming into one minute.

There's only one scream attack in the whole movie :P

Whatttttttt. That's no Dragonball movie ):
Heh, I'm surprised I haven't seen anime fans gathering at 20th Century Fox with picket signs and screaming "U RUNED DBZ ND MAH DREEEEEEEEEEEMZ!!!!!!1112"

That's because anyone that thinks like that thinks that going outside is lethal.
^ Too true.
Does the Super Saiyan Goku still look like a monkey, like he did in those leaked photos a few months back? I'm not at all interested in the movie or the anime or anything to do with Dragonball, I just want to know if Fox raped the Dragonball hivemind any further.
Wow, Catwoman is on in the background, even half watching makes me want to tear my eyes out.
Seriously, the worst movie I've seen in my life.
Dragonball is oscar winning compared to this

Yes but... in leather... who cares about the plot? or anything?
I'm just watching Batman & Robin...it's ass-tastic.
Also watched Planet of Terror the other night, that was nuts..a one legged go go dancer with an assault rifle as a prosthetic limb. Wow, just wow.

Batman & Robin was shite but Planet Terror on the other hand was fantastic I loved every second of that, it was a great thing after bring dissapointed by Death Proof.
Planet of Terror was very...gooey XD but so nuts it was pretty fun to watch. A cameo from big Bruce was pretty awesome too
Just watched "the china syndrome" on film 4, now I will have nightmares.:(

Watched Tropic thunder over the weekend. Thought it was funny as hell. Robert downey jr was great in it.
I finally, finally watched the Dark Knight last weekend.
Hearing bale's bat voice made me turn it off, but a friend insisted and I put it back in. Glad I did too, aside from a lack of lockets on set, the movie was astounding, in every regard.

I went to see The final destination last night in 3d with the missus. What a crock of shit. I went a few years ago to an imax picture to see a short documentary in 3d and the pictures in the screen actually came out and floated right in front of you. Now there trying to revitalise 3D but they've actually made it worse than it was 50 yrs ago. All it does is make the foreground and background look seperate from eachother.

I'm quite curious about that actually. I want to see how it's done, I've seen a few clips and it certainly looks quite nice but it's the old anime into western film scenario so one must always be worried.
It's also a 3D animated movie not done by Pixar so it's probably shit.

Yeah I was worried about that too. But one of the reasons Astro Boy went from live-action to CGI is because they could make it as more "true" to the Anime. I'm not a big fan of Nic Cage, but he's good for an "american" version of Dr. Tenam. Nathan Lane as Ham Egg, however...freaking epic! XD If you look at the clips and stuff, Astro Boy seems to combine plots of the classic anime with the action-packed feel the 2003 remake brought.
I'm going in to enjoy it. The only way I'll be disgusted is if it REALLY bombs. No what I mean?
It's got Cage in it? God that movie is sounding worse and worse.

ROFLMAO!! My sister said the same thing!
Cage ruined National Treasure for me, I spent the whole time watching the film wishing it had someone likable or at the least Brenden Fraiser.

This just in! Cage to star in Uncharted movie adaption! LOL! Imagine...
Can't be worse than that guy from Sahara and other shit movies that was rumoured.
We all know the only person who can play Drake is Nathan Fillion.

It could be a lot worse. Imagine Stephen Fry as Nathan Drake. >_< (That isn't to say that he isn't a good actor and an amusing man, I just think he's very wrong for the part)
Finally got my ass in gear and saw Coraline with a bunch of friends. The stupid cinemas here decided not to show it when it was all brand new and stuff, so I was all pissed at them. Now I'm even more pissed at them, since it was so great. But they sure show crap like Transformers 2 and Dragonball Evolution...
Oh well, loved the movie.

I've watched the Death note movies over the past few days. It's the second time i've watched them now and I seemed to enjoy them alot more this time. The first time I watched them though was right after i'd finished watchin the anime and they seemed to pale in comparison. Just finished watchin the L spin off movie too. It's a bit meh.

I watched those for the second time the other night, it was on Film4. It reminded me how awesome they are, it's the kind of film I'd watch again immediately after it finished, because I'm sad like that

Hum, I wasn't aware of that. I haven't even seen the movies yet, kinda want to even though I'm pretty sure they omit my favourite character.

Who, Near?
Who, Near?
Close, Mello.
Edit: Why would you even think Near, what is wrong with you.
Who, Near?
The kid in L's film? I didn't really understand him, he was annoying as hell. I bought Gav the anime and manga but in typical Gav fashion he hasn't made use of them yet, so I can't steal it :(

N..what? No. What?
Whats the point of even adapting it to film if they can't add in like, half the damn story.

Uh that's really bad considering what Near actually does in the proper story.

Hi!
I am also a big movie fan. Recently I have seen 2012 movie. It is great movie. I like this movie so much. The end of this movie is so terrible. This movie is about the end of the world in 2012. I think 2012 i better than The day after tomorrow. But I think that nothing will happen in 2012. Nobody know exactly what will happen in 2012 and end of the world is only in the hand of god.

I fail, he did actually have another line: "13, 11" repeated about 10 times.

Is that the film with the Resistance 3 advert? If so I agree, it's a terrible world where Resistance can become a trilogy.
The two Death Note films only cover the Light and L saga. It would be pretty awesome to see another film or two that covers Near and Mello, but I doubt we'll see that happen any time soon.
And yes, I do need to watch the anime/read the manga. Free time is all I really need.

^ Im in a minority but I always thought Near and Mello were gimps. Never liked em. I think it's because they killed off L just to replace him with an even younger twattier version of him. I just didn't get it.and the way Near works out the who the third Kira is and use's him to catch Light still cocks me off to this day

I don't think so, quite a few people didn't like them. But I was pretty fond of Mello cause the dude was off his rocker and preffered to do some awesome stuff even L wouldn't do.

Wow, I didn't realize they were remaking the Karate Kid and it stars Will Smith's kid along with Jackie Chan...
Hmmmm...
I recently watched New Moon Avatar 3D and Sherlock Homes.
Avatar was a decent enough film but probably wouldn't have been a big deal if it wasn't for the graphics and all that jazz. The colours were amazing and the 3D aspect was pretty good especially in some of the in-your-face action scenes. I'm trying not to be biased because I fancy Sam Worthington, but the storyline made me melt toward the end ^_^
Sherlock Holmes was very interesting. It had his signiture blow by blow explanation of his deduction and course of action, which was good to see. It was pretty funny as well, though it had a touch of Scooby Doo to it :P
all that jazz
What have you done with my Mena?!?!?!?
