GRRR! I'm getting tired of Vista. If any of out there who have XP and thinking of switching, DON'T.

First, iTunes got all f'd up on me, then Microsoft Office 2007! Yes, iTunes isn't the best, and I did hack Office to get it for free, but that's not the point. I reinstalled iTunes and Office 2007, and it STILL DIDN'T WORK. Why? BECAUSE OF VISTA. Sorry for all the shouting, kinda angered here.

I'm gonna System Recover soon. For those who don't know, that's wiping the C:\ clean and reinstalling the original OS, aka Vista in my case. This about the 20TH TIME that I System Recovered.

Felt like expressing, I let you guys know when I'm back up and runnin'.

To all of you who have Vista, what are your opinions on it? Total 2006-2007 question, but I wanna hear from YOU.

I technically can't vote on this pole as one of my computers has it and the other one doesn't. Trust me when I say this though, Vista fails...HARD. I understand your frustration in this matter because I don't want to ever have anything to do with Vista or too many other Microsoft programs. It goes back to why I don't have a 360. My first XBox broke down, and there have been no improvements to stop XBOX OR 360 consoles from breaking down ever since.

Vista looked pretty, but it was taking up too much resources on my laptop, so I switched to XP and was a lot better. It wasn't easy though downgrading my OS as it seems somewhat unstable from time to time. But I think its just my lame video card.

Well I guess somebody better stand up for Windows Vista eh....

I bought Windows Vista on day one (actually I had it three days before, so technically I had it on day minus two!) and I have nothing but praise for it. It looks great, it runs really well for me. It's got some really cool little improvements as well that make like loads better (like, for example, if you have Windows setup to show file name extensions, when you click on rename, it just highlights the file name and not the extension which is really useful - there are others too but I particularly like that one).

Further to the comments of the original poster, I have both iTunes and Office 2007 (slightly shadily too!) running without any problems at all. Every single application that I use works fine and pretty much always has done. The only piece of software that doesn't run on Windows Vista that did run on Windows XP is Chankast, the Dreamcast emulator. nullDC works, but it doesn't run as well as Chankast did on Windows XP for me.

I love Windows Vista and would never go back to XP! Now, Windows 7 for that matter.....still not sure about the new taskbar...

P.S. One thing I will add is that I've always ran Windows Vista on half-decent hardware. I will conceed that it's not the greatest OS on lower spec'd machines.

Don't have it but have seen it and used it, fails like a ton of bricks.
Too much time was spent on making it look good and not performance.

I donīt have Vista but I canīt say anything about it, I never had it after all, but of the many articles that I read, it gives bad taste. Even if it has great visuals, the rest is just discouraging.

Iīm interested in how Windows 7 will be, but already people are bashing it without end.

Yeah, Vista will go down in history like Windows ME - an upgrade that nobody cared for, and one that was quickly put to bed. I have higher hopes for Windows 7, but honestly, there isn't a lot more I want or need from XP SP2. Sure, it could look prettier, but I'd rather get a better bang for my buck performance wise.

The only complaints I really have about Vista is that alot of my old games don't work and that it's a RAM whore.:P Other-wise a decent OS.

I'm still quite fond of Windows 98; I never had any problems with it and it didn't go overboard in the looks department.

Back on topic: I've only tried a little bit of Vista, my opinion is mainly constructed of what I've read about and heard from others. (Not good things)

What's with all the Vista hate? I think its fantastic.

It looks really great, everything is easier to find, other than that I don't know what else has changed.

Two reasons why Vista is stupid:

1 - It's completely broken, in some computers they can't connect to a WLAN router and after installing XP, it does. O_O (The same goes to the USB connections. >_>)

2 - It had (sometimes it does have, I dunno) no retro-compatibility with other Windows applications, like Reader 7 and Sims 2. >_>

And I think Vista is ok. It's not bad, nor good, it's just normal. But sometimes, it makes me wish I had a MacBook. T_T

I haven't encountered any of those problems. Backward compatability is fine :3 all my old software and hardware work with no issues

My lappy's back up and running (finally...). I had to System Recover (SysRec as I'll abbreviate) a few times (like, 5. I know, OVERKILL!) until it worked for me. Somewhere between some system abnormalities and my OCD for perfection is what caused me to SysRec so many times.

As for compatibility, Vista works OK for me most of the time (ie: The Movies would install for my friend, but not for me, and we have the EXACT SAME LAPTOP AND OS. WTF), but if you ever install anything, don't uninstall unless you don't evur want that program again (evur). Microsoft Office locked up on me, so I uninstalled and reinstalled and it went insane on me. Pop-up here, pop-up there, etc. etc.

I'm OK with Vista, but I can't trust it as far as I can throw it (don't ask how I can throw an OS). It's like an ugly girlfriend: you like her, but you wouldn't hit it ;).

I think Vista is only good if you got a top spec machine, since it's a whore.
Old games not working puts me off straight away as I got a few doujin games I wanna keep.

Hey guys, it's been about two months since I last talked about Vista (dead thread? maybe...). I'm here again because my system f'd up one of my programs to the point of being irreparable. Sysrec anyone? Yeah, I feel kinda bad. I had my new system for only a month or two until it happened. I need to break the habbit / OCD of perfection.

Now we're all drooling wondering if Windows 7 will be of any usefulness to replace that piece of crap.

I think it will, I've read bits about it and It'll be a change anyway.

However it turns out, I'm getting my hands on the upgrade. Vista can piss me off sometimes. It's like the resurrection of Windows ME.

Dr Shaneman

ME had a good OS-tan though (despite the actual OS being complete balls).

The main reason Windows ME sucked was that it was just Win 98 tarted-up to look like Win 2000. Why the didn't just make a home version of Win 2000 just baffles me!

Plus they pretty much made three copies under different names.
ME, 2000 and Millennium.

Hmm.. i didnt get why so much people say Vista is crap..

I have Vista installed about 2 Years ago, and never reinstalled it until today...
Win 95SE, Win98 and WinME needed a fresh installation about every half year because of the much installations/deinstallations i am doing (registry gets a bit big that way).

So i am realy happy about Vista.
The only bad thing is that Windows Seven will be there in a little time, so my Money was only good for 3 Years.. bad that there are no free Upgradeversions for owners of Vista....

The baded Windows ever is in my Opinion Windows ME... a little bit before Windows 98 First Edition and Windows 95 First Edition.

Windows 2000 is for me not realy usefull because of the Gaming.. at least it is playable but not that practical as XP or Vista. So if i want a Working only Operating System, than i do better get Linux with good Software!

Thats it from me, =o)

I've been doing well with Vista ever since my last recovery, but if it craps out on me again, I've got a copy of Windows XP Professional 64-Bit.

For those who don't know, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe 64-bit OS's utilize RAM more than actual HDD space, allowing better CPU performance. My friend's HDD became corrupt, so he went out and bought a 500 HDD and 4 GB of RAM (I know, sexy...), and I gave him the XP install disc. After he installed it, I asked him how it was and if it had better performance. He just smiled at me and said it's working really well and that the performance is better.
