I dug out my PS2 at the weekend and realised just how little attention I gave this wonderous black machine :P

I want to know everyone's favorite ever PS2 games, whether they got slated by reviews or not, why you enjoy them and why other's might enjoy them.

Also, anyone got an idea where to buy them online these days?

Anyway, Resident Evil 4 is a big Win from me, this game is utterly astounding in every aspect. Another winner is Dragonball Z Budokai 3, the sheer ammount of time I've spent playing mates at this is frightening :P

First port of call has to be Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

Amazing game, which maybe isn't as amazing as it was seeing as the time gimmick has been rinsed to death this and last generation.

Gitaroo Man! Loved this game, it just didn't love me. I'm crap at Bemani games and this game showed me up big time.

Ermm, Shadow of Colossus. I didn't like it, but it had charm. Buckets and buckets of charm.

Maximo was a great little game I was gutted I traded in without finishing. It was hard, but then again it should have been considering it was the older brother of Ghosts n' Goblins.

There are others that I have yet to play, but the following are on my wishlist:

Yakuza 1&2
God Hand
Okami

God Hand

God Hand

GODHAND is amazing, fun beat em up of old made in 3D.

The PS2 has some pretty decent RPGs like Dragon Quest, Persona 3, and Shin Megami Tensei: Lucifer's Call.

Also I prefer the Budokai Tenkaichi DBZ games over the Budokai ones since they feel much more Dragonball Zish.

Klonoa 2, Persona 3 and Disgaea 1 and 2 are such fantastic games, oozing charm all over the place. Basically I love the concept and gameplay of those games. Besides, Klonoa 2 was the reason I got a PS2.

forgot to mention, they can be multi-platform too :) there's no problems with that.

I would probably mention Killer7, its such a freaky weird ass thing, everyone should experience the opening chapter

Disgaea 1 and 2

Not to mention the other Nippon Ichi games like Makai Kingdom, Phantom Brave and Soul Nomad.

La pucelle tactics is a good one to get as well, it's probably the simplest of all the Nippon Ichi games I've played so can be a good entry point to the more complex stuff already mentioned.

Another good game I loved playing was Tourist Trophy. Loads of stuff to do and because it is about motorbikes that makes it better than Gran Turismo by default. I spent ages just taking pictures of my bikes.

Never got the chance to play Makai Kingdom nor Soul Nomad. As for Phantom Brave I never really understood the whole phantom thing to really make a decent team.

I loved the PS2 in it's early years but I kinda lost interest in it later, since I started collecting retro games. Nowdays I mostly use it as a DVD player, but I had some nice time with games like FFX, Kingdom hearts (only the first), Breath of Fire - Dragon Quarter, Klonoa 2, Jak and Daxter and Guilty Gear X.

1 was epic and Mark Hamill was pretty good in it.

I wouldn't know, I got fed up of seeing a black screen with text on it every other second.

Sounds like a PS1 game! Oh, the bad ol' days... XD

Project Altered Beast, if you can find it. Brutal good fun, shame it lacks replayability. But who cares? To re-iterate the... 4th to last word of the scientist guy: "Draaaaaggggggon!"

I've not played it but I've heard its really shit.

There is another SEGA PS2 game I've never played but heard was pretty good fun I think it was called Blood Will Tell: Tezuka Osamu's Dororo. I've not played that one but I've heard its pretty good fun. Anyone here played it?

I think Richard has... Someone has because I remember talking about being unhappy that they used more realistic graphics for it instead of made it look like the manga.

If you like gore and mindless violence, it's not so bad. And it has great nostalgic value - seeing how they've turned the original MD/genesis version's creatures into (more) realistic, 3D killing machines is very nice.
The only downsides to it are, as I said, lack of replayability (getting weretiger form is only for those who have absolutely nothing else to do with their lives), and a rather obscure linear story path (I needed a guide multiple times because half the things weren't all that intuitive).

Yeah I had Blood will tell. I liked the idea of it, your guy starts out with all fake limbs as all your body parts have been nicked ( you see the game in black and white until you get your eyes back). I never completed it though. Was a fun enough little brawler just a bit repetitive after awhile.

Can't believe Devil May Cry 3 or Metal Gear Solid 3: SNAKE EAAAAAAATER hasn't be mentioned yet. Possibly two of my all time favourite games and the best in their series.

Yea but they both followed two terrible sequals so people may have given up with the series.

 I bought Devil 4 a few months ago and couldn't even be bothered to finish it. I couldn't even tell what it is that makes it blow but it's crapness just seems to overwhelm you while you play it.

Anyway thinking about it when I try and think about what my favourite ever console is, probably due to childhood feelings i'd either pick the Mega drive or the Dreamcast but if I sat down and wrote a list of all the consoles i've owned and all the games I like on each. i bet there'd be more games on the ps2 list than any other console.

Yea they were followed by pretty poor games aswell, can't seem to get on with DMC4 at all.

I thought MGS 2 was a decent game inbetween the interminable emo-ish monologues and cries of E EEEEEEEEEEEE.

The game itself was pretty good, there just wasn't much of it.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4

Best Role Playing Game I ever played, and I have yet to finish Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.

I can recommend these series to any RPG lover, they are very well designed and will have you hooked for lots of hours,
Let's say these old series are about taming demons and making them your friends, and no, its not a pokémon copycat, these games came way before that time XD
-Persona ones give you the "sim date" part where you're a school student and you have to make social links etc. The demons in these are called "personas" and are cards that need to be summoned in various ways (in P3 for example, you have to shoot your head with a gun called evoker)
-Nocturne is true to the original SMT I and II, really obscure and gritty, but the turns are based on how well or bad you do, if you do a critical hit you got an extra 1/2 turn, you start boosting your turns and making sure the enemies fail so they are penalized with less turns.
-Digital Devil Saga uses the Nocturne battle system but it's not so much about different demons but more about the main characters, i have not played these yet.
-Devil Summoner is an action RPG and I don't know why but it feels a bit like PW (of course I'm talking about the dialog scenes).

If you never heard of those, there's your way to spend this JRPG-less generation with some quality games.

Then what else?, MGS sagas but those I'm sure were already covered in this thread.

Always good to see another Megaten fan though I personally would put Lucifer's Call/Nocturne above Persona 4 due to the ehh pacing and tiresome date sim parts.
