I actually have the materials that would help you in this situation. However, I'm not on the right computer to do anything right away. I had a situation similar to this, so I can halp you a little later.
Of course, if someone has a more immesiate solution, feel free to share it here.
(I need to be on the right computer to make sure I know what I'm talking about as it has the right stuff.)
Hi there I had this exact problem this Christmas when I was buying a new PC monitor that I wanted to double as my ps3 Monitor.
What I did (since I don't have much space in my room) is connected both the HDMI/DVI cable and the standard composite cable. Then have the sound output through the composite and into a second set of speakers that is connected with these:

Basicly you connect the composite sound into the adaptor which in turn will allow you connect that to the female to female audio jack then connect your speakers with that.
I buy most of my cables from there since they have by far the best prices around there not like Radioshack which has each for about 6 bucks.Good luck and hope that helps .

hmm...
I don't understand!
could you maybe draw a little diagram?
I'll take a few pics of my set up with my ps3 cam then post them up
Ok first off sorry for crappy pictures I did what I could considering I actually used a 7 year old camera I found in the living room >.>; but here goes my explanation with pictures of how I have it hooked up

both connections we will use on the ps3

PS3 composite cable that comes when you buy a ps3 (same cable used for the PSX and PS2)

Female to Female 3.5 audio jack (link to buy one on previous post)

Standard speaker 3.5 Audio jack from my speakers

Just connect the speakers to the other side of the female to female audio jack as shown

The back of my ps3 with both cables hooked up .
Now all you do is go to your sound options on your ps3 and tell the ps3 to output though the composite and not the HDMI. Remember you won't be able to get 5.1 or 7.1 audio just 2 channel stereo .
I hope that helps I'm off to play some Socom but will check back later if you guys have anymore questions.

Nice explanation Junkboy. I'll have to get an Admin to shrink the picture sizes though so it won't overstretch the page. Due to my little "situation" I wasn't able to explain this on time myself.
What am I reffering to?

Hehe.
Sorry about picture sizes, I guess being on 1680x1050 makes most web pages seem like they'll display anything. ^.^;; I'll make sure to check sizes before I post and make them a smaller size.
P.S. I hope you're able to return home soon ^.^

Junkboy's method is what I too use when I have the PS3 connected to my PC monitor.
You can also connect the PS3 into your PC's LINE-IN port on the PC, and enable it in Sound Properties and the audio will pass through the PC to it's speakers, but the PC has to be on to hear sound. It's a good option though if you don't want to keep swapping the speakers between PC and PS3.
