Oh noes!
For those of you that hated the first game... tough luck.
Spanish gaming magazine ‘Nintendo Accion’ have rumoured a wintry themed follow up to the immensely popular ‘Mario & Sonic and the Olympic Games’ that’s to be announced in the next issue.
You may start your intensive flaming now :P.

I choose to respond with a big "Meh". I got the DS version of the first for free: Fun for 10 minutes but gets dull soon after. I've no motivation to deal with a sequel.

The first game was very good! Hope that they will add more characters for the sequel! I also found this very cool image!
How much I wish fire Mario, fire Luigi, Super Sonic and Super Shadow will be in the sequel!

I don't see why they wouldn't, after all it's just a cheap colour swap that they can claim to be new characters and thus do less work to make the game sell.

There's a good chance that they will make efforts to improve on the sequel. Nonetheless, if you don't like a sub-franchise, you just don't. This is no exception.

Holy cow!! Heck yes!!! I was so freaking amazed by the first one, and seeing the Blue Dude with 'Tude heading towards Vancouver gives me chills! XD BUT!!! It's a rumor, you have to take these things as a grain of salt. I hope this is true.
Citius, Altius, Fortius! With glowing hearts! Here we go again!!!

lol! Yes, I get it. But the first one did grab my interest in the Olympic games.(just like IOC had hoped) Plus I know you can imagine this game might(holds breath) use the Wii Balance Board. I don't know about ya'll(though maybe I can judge by your comments about cancer and such...I'm kidding) but I find it thrilling that Mario, Sonic and friends will ski for the gold in events like Hockey, Skiing, Snowboarding, and of course...a bobseld run. XD I'm not saying those events are in the game but they are in the 2010 Winter Games. Maybe we'll get some cute Blaze/Daisy ice-skating action! <3
Meh, just another minigame collection... That's a sequal to a minigame collection *sigh*

Not color swaps but I mean that they should give them some special abilities like the speed is very high while stamina is very low. That way, it will be fair to all characters!

Well, I tried the first game for DS, was too simple, and I ended without buy it. Altough I have in mind to buy it yet. Mini games are to play in a short time, I´ll never spend 5 hours on something similar to this.
I don´t mind a new one, it´s always nice to have a sequel, if I like it, I´ll buy it, if not, no, heh. =P
I liked the first one sure it got old quickly but the mission modes helped give it a long life and it is a laugh with mates. I may only get it if they improve it in every single way.

It wasn't really bad but was quite boring on your own.
Most people played the first one on DS, so they didn't experience the full game.

Pay no attention to the sad old man in the corner Reaper >_>.
I disagree with what reaper said.
I hate Mario Kart DS, I hate Mario Kart on Wii, I love Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Double Dash.
Could the olympic games be good? Yeah, maybe. With shit waggle controlls and uninspired design in almost every single aspect? No.
They need to overhaul the entire system, of course doing that alienates the reatard target audience, so it won't happen.
Yeah, fun for a while but no more than ten minutes.

I did the waggle controls, that was what mainly bored me. Main thing I liked was the shooting and the races but... waggle again.

This is what I mean. There will be those who have a set opinion on how they feel, thus creating a turnout based on how they feel OVERALL about a franchise or sub-franchise. Your opinion is no exception.
You say to only have limited positive gameplay time (10 minutes was it?). It will be your choice to carry over that opinion to a newer game, being this one. It's not too hard to understand really.
*hopes to not get dragged in this debate TOO far* (Because seriously, I can go on)

I don't think you quite understand.
The first game was a decent concept but had flawed execution through its waggle controls, I don't think many people would dispute that. That's why I didn't enjoy it, most events consisted of the same repetitive actions.
If for a sequel they overhauled the controls and events to be more varied and interesting then I would enjoy it, and enjoy the game :)

Can't say I'm bothered, I got bored of it very quickly when I played it. 2009 line up isn't too exciting for me, HOTD looks cool, but I'm not getting a Wii again, ever. It's a sad state of affairs when the most exciting thing for myself is another re-re-release of OutRun.

No Madworld for you then.
Still back on topic I enjoyed the game and yes the waggle controls got a bit boring but the swiming events were good since you had to waggle the remotes in a different way. However there needs to be new ways to use the controls other then just waggling them all over the place.

And making your arms not useable for 30 minutes.
But when you got a gold you felt like you really achieved something and it felt good through all the hard work. Well that might just be me not sure about the rest of you lot.

Yea Carpel Tunnel.
Video games based on the Olympics are nearly always mindless button mashers, only on the Wii they're mindless waggle...ers. They weren't good then and aren't good now no matter what mascots you put in.
What happened to the good days where games were games and nothing else?
They're still out there, unless it's made by Kojima... Then it's mostly a movie.

Who gives a smeg about gold, beating your smug looking brother and all your (usually fairly drunk and raucous) mates in the cycling event on Track & Field 2 makes all the repetitive strain coursing through your hands seem like a trivial fly in the ointment in your otherwise utterly glorious moment.

I got the first one back when it was first out (about 2007), and it was fun for about 10 minutes like everyone else said. Triple and Long Jumps on the Wii version were near impossible (then again, I only played for like a week until I got bored).
It's decent, but comes nowhere near Mario Party. It was a good idea (except for the Olympic setting), but a sequel is just pushing it. Can anyone say milking?
Just get Brawl. Or Mario Party. Or divide by zero and get a combo of the two.
Uhg... I swear, that game was kind of boring to me.. I guess it's because I don't like sports in the first place... Just as I found Sega Super Stars boring. *sighs* at least I don't think it will be as horrable as the "Black Knight" sounds

Sonic Shuffle was better than this series, easily.
The next olympic Games are years away. About 3 i think. =o)
So its more realistic that they do speak of a Winter Olympics Game, they must be next Winter.
And if it is so, they have to do many things new in the game. Not just the other Sports-Types, more the Animations of the Figures and so on.
Hopefully it is a bit better and more Singleplayer-Fun than the first Game.
Playing it with friends is still today fun, but alone its just like "damn, i cant get my own Record better"......
Well see.. =o)

There'll obviously be more characters than that.
The new issue of Official Nintendo Magazine has screenshots of the game, got to say it looks pretty good. and there is more characters Blaze, Tails, Daisy, Peach, Knuckles and Shadow plus the usual form the last game are there.

I touched on the subject on Gaia. My exact quote:
they're making a sequel to the m&s olympic games!? why? instead of throwing their money into a (more-or-less) third-party game, sega should be working on a storyline game, preferably one that doesn't suck? (except for unleashed. that one is good.)Oh, yeah, and I made a sig for the hell of it.

I just hope that this doesn't become a reoccurring series (2012 Summer Olympics in London, anybody?). They'd be better off just adding Sonic & co. to the Mario Party games.

Lol my friend pointed out that the Official website says each character has his/her own special move in the game and revealed a few on the characters section. But it seems like the Wii and DS has slightly different moves.
Sonic does his Spindash in both Wii & DS versions and a Jump Dash Ability in the DS version
Tails of course can fly a few meters in both version and does alittle boost with his tails in the DS version
Knuckles has something called Screw Driver Ability in both versions and a Spiral Uppercut in the DS
Amy has some weird thing called Pink Typhoon (im guess a boost) in both versions and a Rose Spin in the DS version
Metal Sonic has an Air Boost in both version (Like in the trailer)
Mario has Spining jump and Fire Dash
Luigi has a move called Luigi Rocket in both version (Im guessing the move from BrawlXD) and Green Fire Dash on the DS
Yoshi of course has his flutter Jump in both versions and the DS has thrash Dash
Peach floats in the Air in both version and a Dash in the DS
DK has a slapping dash in both versions XD and his spiral jump
http://www.olympicvideogames.com/mario-and-sonic-winter/

(one time, played 100m, sonic as ai, and it got 7th or 8th place. i was like "lol wow").
Also, it probably won't sell as well as the previous one because how I've seen it, not many of the people I know really care for the winter olympic games (they were like "beijing's over; back to our lives). Which really sucks, because this game actually looks...good.
Still doesn't have table tennis, though. XD I still lol at how it's an olympic sport. They should add foozball / table soccer (whatever you decide to call it) to the roster next time. Or air hockey.

Yup (Sucks since it seems like the winter games has more entertaining eventsXD) But im sure this game will sell enough to probably see a third Olympic title with these two.
(I dont see any events that has alot of Wii waggling xD Thats always good)
Well according to Nintendo official magazine this Mario & Sonic at the winter olmpics is gonna be realeased on november 2009 well im hoping to get it at that month and i really love the first Mario & Sonic.now i can get to see the winter version.

Nice to see Radical Highway again. Easily one of the better levels from SA2.
I find it a bit funny that we see Silver playing curling, since it's it's pretty much the only sport I can imagine him being good at.

Well....Silver is a hedgehog, and Yoshi is meant to be a dinosaur, probably a T-Rex...it kinda works..
Still, using the logic that image provides, Mario needs to be around 8-9 feet tall. He's usually the same height as Yoshi, isn't he?

One thing's for sure: the pic made me laugh a bit.
Funny that no one's posted anything here since SoS. The problem with playing this on the Wii is that you need to read the rules over and over again until you get what you need to do to actually play the game well. Gav got the hang of it pretty quick though, so I might've been crap because I'm dense. Despite this it was pretty swish though quite similar to Olympic Games, as you'd expect.

Thats quite true there seemed to be more rules then usual then the last game but what i did like was that while it showed you how to hold the remotes it had that little video to the left which showed gameplay footage of what the remote motion does. I only got to play Dream Skiing but I thought it was pretty good from what I played and it sure does make a change from waggleing the remote all the time like in the last game.

Yeah, we did a Dream Ski Race event. Sonic pwns Yoshi...as you'd expect.
Just to let people know that a demo of the DS version is on the nintendo channel, its only a small demo of the alpine skiing event.

Have you tried it by any chance?
I got the first for DS and it´s good. This time I will get both maybe, first the DS version since it has the RPG mode.
Well its only one event and while its nothing to cry home about it does the job though expect more from the full game.
Yeah I've been hearing that the DS version is the better game since it has the RPG mode and its geared more towards single player. If i remember Nintendo power gave the Wii version a 7/10 and the DS version a 8/10.
Ok now that the games out what do we all think of it? I have both the Wii and DS versions and I have to say I'm really enjoying it, I've not played much of the DS version but the Wii version i got to say is pretty well made and the controls work quite nicely although on some events they can be a bit hit & miss and i've yet to try it out with the balance board. So far so good.
Is their some sort of deal going on or are people actually happy to buy the same game twice for about £60?
I'd get the DS version but proper games like Uncharted 2 are out and Borderlands is coming soon so I'm not willing to waste money on some minigame compilation unless it's absolutely fantastic.
I got the Wii version on day one and the DS a few days later. both games are different but the main thing with the DS version is it has the Adventure Tours mode.

I just watched the video trailer on the website. Bowser doing the hammer throw made me laugh, although I expected him to put a hole in the stadium. XD
However, during the final race scene, I found myself wondering... Why in the hell hadn't Sonic lapped everybody five times already??? XD
